I can’t say enough positive things about chehalem cultural center. Our family have attended various events, camps, classes through the last several years. I really want to give above 5-star rating for the art camps over the summer. The well-trained staff, the positive interactions each day, and the schedule/consistency they provide for children when they are out of school. I want to give a huge shout out to not only the staff during those summer months, but Clara-Liis who is caring, understanding, and compassionate! Without her customer service, kindness, and flexibility, I would have struggled in various ways. Thank you for all the hard work everyone puts into the camps. You guys are doing something great for families in the communities and I know I’m not the only one who feels this way!! YOU GUYS ROCK. Thank you for giving children space to create in a safe place!

Booked a private groups ceramics session with an instructor. When we arrived nobody knew what was going on, the instructor never showed up, and none of the staff helped or acted like they even cared. They simply said they didn’t know why the instructor wasn’t there (for the lesson we had booked and received confirmation for) and to “maybe try again another day.” Horrible service and experience.

I can't say enough good stuff about the ceramics instructors. I have been taking classes from one of them for nearly two years. She is pretty awesome. She brings the fun into learning that helps students get past the inevitable clay disasters. I can't review CCC without mentioning their core values. The want art to be accessible to everyone. When I started I was in a bad place with my health and on disability that only pays 60% of your base salary. I desperately needed a creative outlet that could accommodate the double vision I had developed. Everywhere that I called had class prices far out of my range. But CCC not only advertised their desire to make art açcessible, they actually do. Their scholarship program has made possible a miracle in my life, helped me fight off depression and PTSD. I love this place so much I drive down from Portland.

Lack of Supervision and Engagement at Camp During my recent visits at the Newberg park/ splash pad , I noticed several counselors and staff members either sitting down on their phones or otherwise disengaged while the children were active and unsupervised. There appeared to be minimal interaction or guidance, which is especially concerning given the age group these children fall under. This is the 2nd year I’ve noticed this. As a preschool teacher with over 12 years of experience and 6 years as a camp counselor working with children ages 4 to 9, I understand the importance of maintaining a safe, structured, and attentive environment. Active supervision and meaningful interaction are essential to ensuring the children’s well-being and enriching their camp experience. What was particularly disheartening is that I, as a visitor simply there with my English Mastiff, ended up stepping in and playing with the kids to help manage the energy and keep things safe. A parent even approached me under the impression that I worked there and thanked me for engaging with their child. One of the children also said goodbye to me as if I were staff — which speaks volumes about the lack of counselor presence and connection.

This place always does a great job putting on free events for the community, being an affordable venue and hosting camps/classes for people of all artistic levels and interests! I highly recommend taking a class, renting for an event, and/or coming for a Cultural Experience!

Very small. A limited amount photos, paintings, sculpture. If you're coming for the art, look elsewhere. They also offer classes which may be more attractive, although I didn't take any. There's also a ballroom.

Yelp
This is only a review of the Chehalem Cultural Center ceramics studio - it is fully equipped and they fire to cone 8. There is a broad selection of clays (for purchase) and glazes. The studio is well-run and organized. They offer open studio times at $10 per hour by reservation, a full complement of classes which include open studio time and occasionally there are workshops.

Yelp
I've worked at the CCC for a couple years and it is such a special place for my family and I. We have celebrated Quinceañeras in this ballroom for my sisters and I and had many other special family/friend/school/community events here. Can't say enough how much I appreciate the CCC for the friendly staff and it's integral part in the Newberg community.

Yelp
My wife and I attended the performance of "Jane Doe In Wonderland" - https://www.janedoeinwonderland.com/ - as performed by the troupe Game Over. FIVE STARS FOR THE PLAY AND IT'S CAST But I digress. The Cultural Center acts in this capacity as a black box theater. That said, it's quite small, and for me, too warm (the one reason I didn't give it five stars). We found everyone to be friendly and the small space really put a personal spin on things. Surprisingly, it wasn't uncomfortable for the hour and a quarter presentation plus another hour or so to listen to survivor Robin Miller's story, cast comments, and a chance for the audience to reciprocate. It was an enlightening experience which my wife and I both enjoyed. I would certainly go back if the event being hosted was of interest as was this.

Yelp
Where do I begin. This cultural center is amazing. The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is very welcoming. I contacted Kellie to rent a space for a small wedding ceremony and got quick responses. She's amazing. She helped us find the perfect room to rent and made sure it was filled with all the correct amount of tables and chairs. We rented room 201 for about five hours for the ceremony and a small reception. It was a perfect size, filled with huge windows for amazing natural light. The sweet lady from the front desk (gosh I wish I remembered her name-I'm sorry!) came to check on us to make sure everything was going okay. All I have to say is I absolutely love this space and all it offers. Chehalem and it's staff went above and beyond, providing us with exceptional service and a great room to celebrate our special day. I'll definitely be back for future events!

Yelp
I just finished an art class at the center. It was a fantastic experience, and I'm glad the Center provided the opportunity. I enjoyed painting and watching the kids run around on the playground. :)

Yelp
This is a wonderful community focused mix use space in the heart of historic Newberg. It is only a few blocks from my house. It hosts many community events and recently the street was remodeled and widened. The space can be rented for weddings and events. They teach all kinds of classes here (most for a fee) including ceramics and painting.

Yelp
I've been to many events here over several years and have thoroughly enjoyed them. They have been of various scales and various experiences from festivals to art to lectures to music. However, we recently followed the instructions on their website to try and rent a art classroom and were informed that they do not rent them (contrary to the website) and that they are, in fact, an "art school" (stated nowhere on their website). So you cannot rent one of the two art classrooms, but have to become a hired teacher to only teach via their scheduled events. Very confusing, very puzzling and not well communicated either on the phone, via email or on the website. I also found that communication issue is endemic to the organization and resent at every level. The whole experienced left me frustrated and confused as to their mission, purpose, priorities and questioning the competency of their management.

Yelp
Just attended Black Box Theatre performance "There's No Business Like Show Business!" Music from Broadway... WOW! Small town Oregon meets big city Broadway! Enjoyed the show in an intimate setting, beautiful voices, great songs, good memories! Recommend when you come you eat at Recipe just two blocks over - delicious.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful to have this in Newberg. The cultural center has workshops, events, supports artists of all kinds, and has even helped to sponsor our budding theater company. It has really added a fantastic dynamic to downtown Newberg. It's great to be able to just wander in when you are running errands or whatever, and look at whatever installation they have up at the time. The last event I went to was the Day of The Dead celebration- really fun. Highly recommended.

Yelp
A wonderful asset to the Newberg community. Mixed-use facility offers classes and can be rented out for private parties or meetings. A gallery is just beyond the entry way. Conveniently located across the street from the city library.

Yelp
I love going to the center for its diverse art displays. They provide classes for adults and children that are rare to find in most communities. I have especially enjoyed dropping in to the Sketchy artist studio for drop in art time weekly. What a supportive and creative group.

Yelp
I love this facility! It is one of the reasons Newberg is such a wonderful place to live. They host community-building events like the Lavender Festival, MLK Jr. Celebration, Oregon Truffle Festival, Dia de los Muertos, Contra Dance, Art Harvest, Camellia Festival, Tunes on Tuesday (summer), Art Shows, Theatre, Music, classes...it goes on and on. It truly is an invaluable asset for the people of Yamhill County.
