I first stayed at this hotel during the period of 2008-2011, back when it was still known as the Ramada Hotel. At that time, it was an excellent option with a convenient location near the Al Satwa roundabout—a landmark every taxi driver could easily find in the days before Dubai had a comprehensive system of street names. The hotel offered a memorable experience, with a delightful Italian restaurant serving authentic stone oven pizzas and a lively Australian sports bar. Based on those fond memories, I decided to return after many years, hoping for a similar experience. Unfortunately, what I found was a shadow of its former self.
To start on a positive note, the staff remains as friendly and welcoming as they were back in the day. Their professionalism and helpfulness are still commendable. However, the Italian restaurant and sports bar are long gone, replaced by a new bar that plays loud music until 3 AM—a major disturbance for anyone staying on the lower floors.
The state of the rooms is where the real disappointment sets in. It’s clear that no updates or renovations have been made since my last stay over a decade ago. The beds are old, the chairs and sofas are sagging, and the carpets are lifting in places. The bathroom was neither clean nor well-maintained, with worn-out fixtures and only one towel provided. The windows were so dirty that looking outside wasn’t an appealing option. Overall, the rooms feel tired and neglected, far below the standard one would expect in a competitive city like Dubai.
This hotel is no longer the business-friendly choice it once was. While the location still holds potential, the facilities are in desperate need of a comprehensive upgrade to stay relevant in Dubai’s mid-range hotel market. Sadly, it’s hard to justify even a three-star rating in its current state; two stars would be more accurate.
It’s disappointing to see a once-reliable hotel fall so far from grace. What was once an ideal option for business travelers is now a hotel struggling to keep up with the competition. I hope the management considers a significant refurbishment, as the Chelsea Hotel has the potential to reclaim its former glory.
