Yelp
I recently visited Chengdu after days of craving authentic Chinese food, and it absolutely hit the spot. Right when my group arrived, the staff greeted us with hair ties, clothing protectors, and wipes. We asked for recommendations, and the server kindly warned us that their spice level runs much hotter than other Chinese spots in the area. She wasn't kidding. I ordered the Chicken in Fried Chili at a medium spice level, and it still packed serious heat but in the best way.
The standout for me was the eggplant dish. It had the perfect balance of sweet and sour, which helped with the fiery kick from the chicken and rounded out the meal beautifully. The waitress also mentioned that their soup-based dishes are extremely popular, but be prepared those are known to be even spicier.
A quick heads-up for anyone planning a visit: avoid peak hours if you're not a fan of long waits. My friend and I came during dinner rush and waited about 1.5 hours. They don't take advanced Yelp reservations, so I recommend putting your name down and exploring Chinatown while you wait.
Overall, I genuinely enjoyed my experience and would absolutely recommend Chengdu to anyone looking for flavorful, authentic, and unapologetically spicy Sichuan food.
