Google
the most fluffiest chiffon cake in singapore! the pandan flavour is strong and it’s not too sweet. overall it’s good cake for any special occasion or as a gift! ☺️

Google
Shocked to say that their kaya is split. Mine tasted like scrambled eggs with pandan. It was grainy and overcooked in some parts with a prominent egg flavour and watery on others. This isn’t acceptable for a jar that costs $15.

The dining experience at Soi 47 somewhat reminded me of Bangkok. The food and the vibe exudes Thai atmosphere. They were really shorthanded on the night we visited, however the service staff was friendly and service was pretty prompt. The prices are really affordable. Would highly recommend the prawn glass noodles and red ruby. Hubs commented that the green curry was good. You can definitely give the crab omelette a miss. Doesn't really add on to the dining experience. Would definitely be back to try more food on the menu.

Have been patronizing this restaurant a few times, comfort home cooked food. Tried new dishes like these Assam pig trotters. Something different an taste like mild curry. Found the samba prawns highlight off the day!

Bought their homemade kaya and brought it to my in-laws in Japan and made kaya toast for everyone. It was delicious! Wonderful aroma and perfect taste and texture.

Google
The last time I ate here was when they first open and that was quite a few years ago. It was quite expensive then. But I think they have brought the prices and the portion down a little. The quality of the dishes that most Chinese families traditionally cook at home were still good. Very good. The steam pork belly was incredibly wonderful. So good that my wife ordered one to take home and my daughter and father in law loved it. The chicken chop came in rather thin slices with a small bowl of curry with potatoes. This is supposedly their signature dish but the curry is not enough for two to share. Service was excellent.

Google
Excellent place that serves home cooked meals. Very friendly staff and even gave us samples of their Kaya on biscuits to try. Everything is natural and leaves my taste buds happy without any of those artificial stuff you get at other places. Love the gula melaka chiffon cake!

Google
Food are pretty tasty but overpriced. Ordered the crispy chicken chop rice with curry. Chicken chop was crispy and curry was watery and delicious. There are only 3 choices for one person set meal when I patronize with me and myself. Come in a group and you can enjoy more varieties of food on their ale-carte menu.

Yelp
Food is good, been years since i've been here and i even brought a japanese friend who was in town to try them for authentic local food. Anyway, service is alright, service staff arent too friendly. They seem to think that they are so popular now they dont need to provide good service. And the bill came up $58 for 2 pax. Ordered a soup, pork cutlet, seasonal veg, sambal prawns and 2 plates of rice. $58 didnt really go a long way. You're better off at Loo's which is not too far away (just around the hood). Google for their address. Most recent price waa $38 for 7 dishes and 4 people. They are not open on weekends though.

Yelp
I like Cheng's @ 27 for simple Hainanese food. Love the crispy chicken with ginger. It's the best. No one else I know of does it like this. Love the French beans too. The pork chop is good too. We had canned pig's trotters with bee Hoon recently. Wasn't as good as before. Not sure why. Maybe I'm less forgiving now because I just had the same from Beng Thin Restaurant (Hokkien) and it was fabulous. Had other dishes here before and they were all above average to good. They have homemade kaya too. The best dessert here is kueh kosui.

Yelp
Lapis sagu - 2 stars (This is the steamed version of kueh lapis.) Way too sweet and overpriced!

Yelp
My friend came from Melbourne to Singapore for one week and he stayed somewhere at Chai Yang Road. When he asked me to take him to taste local food, I did not know where to go since I am not very familiar with this area. We chances upon this place and the first thing I noticed is "home-cooked" hainanese food. My friend did not take port so we did not order pig trotters bee hoon. We asked for recommendation. In the end, we had ginger chicken which is one of their signature dishes, samba prawns, and long beans. For the portion of 2 people, it's just ok. Not too heavy and not too light. My friend asked whether he could order one more veg. So we ordered broccoli. Yet he wanted to be spicy and the cook was able to customize the order and make it spicy. The bill in the end was $62. 4 dishes, 2 rice and 2 lime juice. Reasonable price I would say. Because it is a home-cooked food kitchen, they are more flexible to customize orders and at the same time, very little MSG which is important. I also notice that the food was not oily like that I see in other food courts or hawker centers. The only thing is that they don't accept credit cards. So remember to bring debit cards or cash before you go. They also do not open on Tuesdays.

Yelp
Decent food in a hip area of Tiong Bahru. Portion sizes are not huge but quality of food is fresh and tasty. Three dishes came out to $45 for two people.

Yelp
Read the reviews. Called up to make sure it was open. Went there, and photos look great. Ordered. And I have to say, I was very very disappointed. It did not even look vaguely appetising. Was already thinking : how the heck can fellow Yelpers give this place such a high score... Then I tasted it. Not bad. Not bad at all. Curry was decent in both texture and taste. Pork chop was very nicely done, it had the crispy-and-juicy combo just right. The portion size was just right for me, though I can think of a few people who would complain as the rice portion is a little less than usual. I throughly enjoyed it. Price tag to a pork chop curry rice = $9. Their menu looks has your usual flair of Hainanese dishes. The table next to mine had at least 2 families and the dishes on the table looks great. Look forward to going back there to try. A few tips : 1) if you have a party of more than 2, please call ahead to book. 2) it is a coffee shop setting, so it can get pretty hot especially in the recent weather 3) following from no. 2, if you are sitting inside, sit somewhere in the middle. This place is laden with spot lights. I know it is an attempt to provide the place with a modern feel, but heck, it makes the place soooooooo much warmer. 4) don't expect a lot of service...

Yelp
Chanced across this zhi char place completely by accident and stopped for lunch. Very casual setting, like a hawker center or kopitiam. We ordered crispy chicken with ginger, steamed pork belly, stir fried beans, sliced fish and duck soup. The food was delicious (particularly the meats!) and came out literally within seconds of being ordered. Also try the kaya and gula melaka chiffon cake. I couldn't leave without buying some home. Will definitely be back! Paid $122 for 4 pax in total, so not your average cheap hawker experience. But for the food, fast and friendly service, I won't complain!

Yelp
Quite unique curry sauce and crispy chicken cutlet. The portion might be a little bit small for guy. Will try again next time - recommended.

Yelp
First dining outlet of any sort in my life, where the prices weren't listed anywhere in writing, either on the menu or on some board. When I tried asking what the prices were, the middle-aged man in charge gave me a dirty look and said contemptuously, "Oh ya sure. It's around $12-$15 for the small portions." The portion sizes are small and it will come to about $20 per person, for average food that your average HDB auntie whips up everyday. Seriously. Go knock on a random HDB household door; say you'll pay $10 for a bowl of whatever's for dinner that night. I promise you it will be at least at good as this disorganised no-air-con coffee shop masquerading as a hipster joint (and that pays local magazines and newspapers to review them).

Yelp
I went to Cheng's when it first opened a couple years ago and I remember bookmarking it as a place for home style Chinese food. Food has a no frills presentation but it is delicious and the quantity is sufficient. It is away from the busy hawker centre/kopitiam setting so that there is more space and it is open late.

Yelp
Already had eyed up the crispy chicken ginger when the waiter came over and gave me a recommendation for the same! Delicious! In a gorgeous little leafy suburb, grab a coffee or check out books further down Yong Siak street

Yelp
I thought I knew the Tiong Bahru neighborhood like the back of my hand after living here for a year, but obviously I am wrong - I forgot about Cheng's. My first visit here was more than 2 years ago when I first visited the Tiong Bahru neighborhood and before the big wave of gentrification. I remember the space looks less modern and more like any yong tofu or kopitiam in the hood. Now it looks completely modernised to match the rest of yong siak street. We went for dinner with friends who live closeby. Food is home-style hainanese. We had the omlette, ginger chicken, steamed pork and broccoli. Everything was good. I particularly enjoyed the ginger chicken which is deep fried chicken with a sweet and sour seasoning, the chicken is juicy and sweet and I actually prefer this over the usual hainanese pork chop. The steamed pork is just plain steam pork with a sour vinegar based sauce, very tasty as well. They also serve home baked cakes and cookies but we were too full after the meal. Great place for some hearty home cooking.

Yelp
Great food and excellent service. We loved the crispy ginger chicken, freshly squeezed lime juice, curry shrimps and steamed pork.
