"Deep within the Nantahala National Forest and surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains, Lake Santeetlah's forested 76-mile shoreline is almost completely protected from development. The result is an oasis of quietude for fishing, paddling a canoe or kayak, or just relaxing on the beach at Cheoah Point." - Travel + Leisure Editors
Stayed over here to visit the Smoky Mountains and stopped here on the first evening for a swim. The water was perfect, the sunset was perfect. There were kids having a good ol time. Plenty of space to lay out and enjoy a picnic. Kind of secluded if you wanted it to be. There was a trail that leads to a swing to jump into the water. Only bad thing was there was some trash near the water and a whole diaper someone left which I thought was super gross and weird but humans are that way I guess

Went on a Saturday, if you want the covered pavilion you had better get there early. Day parking $5 per vehicle. Parking for approximately 20 vehicles. Nice swimming area, no lifeguards. Surprising few bugs.

17 years ago I jumped off that rock with my first husband and today I found myself watching my son and his girlfriend jump after he introduced a girl to his grandma for the first time. This place hasn't changed and I hope it never does. Fishing sucks on the 4th of July, but as far as a good place for the whole family to enjoy the lake and cool off it can't be beat.
