This beautiful castle has insane aura. The moment you pull up in the car park its presence is something that leaves you in awe. Me and my partner came here for the first time and we spent a few hours here just taking it all in, imagining what it would’ve been like to be here in the medieval times. There are information boards located throughout to give you a run of the history which is fascinating. We loved it and highly recommend it.

Chepstow Castle is a fantastic spot to explore. The ruins are well-preserved, with plenty of towers and walls to wander through. We loved the views overlooking the River Wye—it adds a really dramatic touch to the whole experience. There’s lots of history packed into the site, and it never felt too crowded, which made it easy to soak everything in. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area!

Thoroughly enjoyed this historic location, even though it was raining, there were lots of information boards around the site and we turned up on a day when they had some birds of prey on display. There were quite a few sets of stairs to navigate, but they all had rails to hang on too. Lots of little bits of fun for the kiddies to partake in. Some amazing scenery and views to enjoy and it was a memorable day out.

Loved this castle. It's in a lovely location by the river. Reasonable entry price. Well worth a look round. It was quiet when we visited. We went back at night for an outdoor rock concert event which was very impressive.

Chepstow Castle is a very interesting place to visit. Although parts of the original structure are in ruins, a significant amount still remains, offering a glimpse into its former grandeur. Some sections are missing, but this is well balanced by numerous informative displays throughout the site. These descriptions help visitors imagine how the castle once looked and provide a wealth of historical information. Additionally, certain parts of the walls and towers have been restored, allowing visitors to climb up and enjoy beautiful, scenic views. Overall, it’s a fascinating destination that combines history, imagination, and stunning landscapes.

Great castle with lovely views of the river Wye. Lots to explore, and you can do an audio tour or just read the information boards or do both. Still quite a lot of areas to explore, towers, castle walls and rooms. Larger than you initially think on arrival.

Amazing castle with a lot of history. Really big and without kids would take around an hr walk id say if you fully appreciate everything. With kids id say probably 2 hrs if they drag their feet 🤣. Worth the £10.50 for an adult ticket. I think kids should be half price (currently 7.30)but I understand that it takes a lot of money to maintain the castle. The staff are friendly and the shop is worth a gander. There is space to have a picnic in different parts of the castles lawns. Overall, it was a great day for the family and would be just for adults too. What I would say is there is no bin anywhere but the entrance so be prepared to carry rubbish(not so great after a picnic with kids lol). Also note there is a steep uphill at some point so be careful if you struggle going uphill

It's a castle that has a stunning view, hugging the cliff edge, there are a couple of places you can see the River Wye meander past, there was someone out for an early morning swim when I visited. The castle seems to climb on for ages and there is a fair bit left standing. There are a few wall walks and towers to climb so there are steps, some are worn. Guide book and information boards on hand. Shop and plenty of benches. Car park at the entrance

Yelp
One of the better preserved castles I toured during my time in Wales, Chepstow Castle looms imposingly over the muddy, plodding, slithering River Wye that coils at its base. Continuing with the serpentine metaphors, Chepstow's outer rampart continues to snake up the hill behind the main fortification for several hundred feet, offering a spectacular view of the countryside (the Wye itself is a muddy brown, and not particularly exciting). There are several chambers and cellars still mostly intact, some of which (along the riverside) egress to narrow walkways along the cliff face. Unlike some manor houses and estates that identify as "castles" (instead of the glorified stone mansions that they are), Chepstow is the real deal - the vastness of its expanse and volume, the thickness of its walls, and its position atop a cliff, would have made it a bitch to siege.

Yelp
Chepstow Castle is a magnificent castle in southeast Wales perched high above the river Wye. Construction started almost 1,000 years ago in 1067AD and is (I believe) the oldest surviving stone castle in the UK. Yes it is largely a ruin but it is still a spectacular place to visit, incredibly photogenic and simply beautiful. It's strategic importance in British history is proven by how quickly William the Conqueror (1066 and all that!) started its construction! Two thumbs up - just visit when you can...

Yelp
Perfect for romance. Beautiful ruins - I recommend you to pay £ 4.5 and start out for a lovely tour! Dokonalá romantika :) Krásná zřícenina - doporučuji zaplatit 4,5 libry a vyrazit na půvabnou prohlídku!

Yelp
How do you review a real life castle?! I mean, it has to have 5 stars purely based on the fact that it's been standing since 1067. As an American in the UK, I am constantly amazed by the beauty and history here and this place is just one example of many. So, yes definitely a 5 star review that all I can say is go see this place, it is stunning.

Yelp
An historic site well worth visiting. Wear good shoes/boots as it can be muddy and cold in winter. Be ready to climb up steps that are hundreds of years old (and be transported to another time as you do!). Imagine being in a suite of rooms where royals were held prisoner; look out small windows over the River Wye, which runs along one side of the castle to provide security from attack; walk the perimeter of the Great Hall and imagine the tables replete with game and look around the kitchen area and wonder what they used to cook and what they were cooking at the time....it truly is a magical spot and well worth a visit.
