24 Mesmerizing Mazes and Labyrinths

"With the assistance of landscape architect Conrad Heiderer, fourth-generation Cherry Point Farm and Market owner Barbara Bull realized an expansive flower labyrinth with a kaleidoscopic herb garden at its epicenter. Barbara Bull stepped up to the helm of Cherry Point Farm and Market with grand plans for this long-standing fruit and flower venue. Founded in 1949, the farm has been owned and operated by Bull’s family for four generations; and in 2001, she transformed the charming produce pitstop into an aromatic attraction with the creation of a monumental lavender labyrinth. This sweet-smelling addition to Cherry Point Farm and Market was designed to facilitate peace, relaxation, and meditation. “Unlike a maze,” the farm’s website notes, “a labyrinth is a continuous circuit and you cannot get lost.” Rather, visitors are guided through a contemplative journey flanked by fragrant lavender plants, Black-eyed Susans and hollyhocks. At the labyrinth’s meticulously-manicured center, over 30 herb beds define a 12-point vesica pattern designed to fulfill the principles of sacred geometry. Twelve circles, 52 arbor posts, and seven cross pieces nod to the months and weeks of the year, and the days of the week. Visit between mid-July and early August to catch the lavender labyrinth in full bloom, and pick up all manners of lavender products from the market. Cherry Point Farm and Market additionally offers produce grown on site, freshly-baked pies, breads, and pastries fortified with apples, pears, peaches, and cherries from the trees that surround the labyrinth, and hosts fish boils during the summer months." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Came here to st the lavender labyrinth. Even though it was still fully in bloom, it was still very pretty and very well maintained. There's also a small shop that sells some food and merchandise. I got cherry turnovers and they were very good. If it wasn't so it off the way I probably would have gone back to get some more stuff, donuts looked pretty good, will have to come back and get them another time. Maybe earlier in the year to get the fully bloomed effect.

Google
We stumbled upon this charming place and were so glad we did! The store has all sorts of fun things, including books and baked goods written by and baked by the owner. In the summer there is a lavender labyrinth and herb garden that we will totally come back for. If you’re nearby, definitely worth a stop!

Google
If you have a chance while in Michigan go check it out!! Cutest little market with the best fresh baked goodies. The gardens are phenomenal and the FISH BOIL… what a great dinner experience! Tons of fun!! 100% would recommend!

Google
A must place to visit is Cherry Point Farm & Market ! It is such a cute store and beautiful farm. The store has fresh produce, shirts, homemade syrup, and more. It was fun walking through the farm and seeing all the bees on the lavender. It was as we said it through the rocks, perfect !

Sarah N.

Google
My favorite activity the day we were in the area. Don’t hesitate to go a little out of your way to come here. I came to see the lavender labyrinth, which was lovely, but it was the herb garden I fell in love with.

Jamie D.

Google
Such a cute shop! Left with cherries, pastries, soaps and a super cute tee! Unfortunately, it was pouring rain, didn't get to wander through the lavender even though it smelled amazing!

Tamara K.

Google
Charming Farm Mkt + lovely lavender labyrinth and herb garden. The owner is also an accomplished author with 11 titles in her name, all with local ties.

Google
Bery nice small market with local goods. And the lavender fields are beautiful - many types of other flowers there too!

Yelp
This place is so cute. The owner was there and was very pleasant. The peanut butter cookies were amazing and the Brie sandwich was amazing as well.

Yelp
Don't miss this farm if you're in town! Great local options. You must try their cherry turnovers and pastries. They also have cute gift items and a gorgeous lavender garden. I always buy some loose lavender to put in little bags for gifts. Always friendly staff and you can't go wrong supporting our local farmers!

Yelp
This is a fun local spot to buy fresh cherries and some tasty treats. The staff are all very sweet and are passionate about what they do. We bought the cherry strudel and cherry muffins and we loved them both! They have a beautiful garden labyrinth to walk through in the grounds and is a great place to take your family.

Mary Ann F.

Yelp
The store has unique items and the food in the restaurant is excellent. The ham and Swiss sandwich with cherry mustard is exceptional. Wish I could buy the mustard, delicious.

Lindsey K.

Yelp
Cute farm stand with fresh fruit, veggies, baked goods, and fudge. Also a small souvenir shop for all things Northern Michigan.
google avatar

Gwen A.

Yelp
Stopped here for some treats. My girls loved the cherry donuts and we all really liked the the cherry muffins. I expect that I would have liked the donuts too, but they devoured them before I had a chance to try any.

Yelp
Fantastic little market with crafts and produce and jams, as well as baked goods when available. It wouldn't be a trip to Little Sable Point or Silver Lake without stopping here. Their cherry jam is the best I've had!
google avatar

Kurtis G.

Yelp
Very nice little market that I happened upon on my road-trip. Friendly employees, a lot of DELICIOUS looking things! I would recommend the turnovers!

Yelp
Did you know that the Lavender Labyrinth has been featured in Travel+Leisure and Condé Nast?! I mean, it's a huge deal. But when we visited for July 4th, the majority of the lavender bushes were small and immature. My daughter was very disappointed but not anything the farm staff can control. The staff did say the bushes are usually in full bloom by late July - something to keep in mind for future visits. The store is small but stocked. We purchased a number of cherry goodies, jam, and souvenirs. All of it was delicious but not something I'd make a special trip for. Thankfully we didn't go out of our way to visit since we were in town for the sand dunes, but if we had - I would've been sorely disappointed. The staff is lackluster and unhelpful. All in all, our trip wasn't what we expected it to be. Glad we got to visit but we likely won't return.

Maille P.

Yelp
The cutest little market. They have the best baked goods, especially their cherry turnovers. Always have to make a stop here when i'm in the area.

Heather W.

Yelp
Lavender was in full bloom...the garden round is just incredible...I could bring a book a picnic and get some sweet goodies at the store and spend an entire afternoon here

Peggy W.

Yelp
The "not your grandma's grilled cheese was excellent. The cherry pie is the best I've ever had. We came back this year for the pie!

Ryan B.

Yelp
There is a beautiful garden there and you can tell countless hours of work goes into it to maintain it. There is a store with fruit, pastries and more to shop from as well.

Yelp
SERVICE: 5 FOOD QUALITY: 5 DRINK QUALITY: N/A ORDER TIME: N/A AESTHETICS: 5 NOISE LEVEL: 5 MENU SELECTION: N/A OVERALL EXPERIENCE: 5 After being told about this fish boil we decided to make a reservation and join in on the fun. The drive was a little over an hour from Grand Rapids, but well worth it. There was plenty of parking for all 50 people who attended. When you arrive to the farm there is an amazing farmer market with some delicious pastries. We bought the asparagus filled strudel which was superb. To the side of the farm is where people who have made a reservation gather for the fish boil. You get to enjoy viewing the farmers making the meal for you and during the boil the owner will greet you to ensure you are happy and have the proper seat. She will also share her story and a history lesson on fish boils. The story is very enlightening and fun while you wait. The meal consists of white fish, potatoes, onions, bread and cherry pie with vanilla ice cream. The food is fabulous and that is evident considering half of the people there were return customers. Things to know before you go: it's BYOB! They do serve water, lemonade and coffee if you don't want alcohol. We brought our own founders beer. If you show up early bring a small snack unless you don't mind waiting 2 hours before your meal. Our table neighbors had been to the boil a dozen times and shared their trail mix with us which made the event that more memorable. It is recommended to show up early to view the labyrinth garden and enjoy the small market. I purchased the fudge for my dessert. I was very impressed with it. Previous reviews boasted about the cherry donuts but I didn't get the opportunity to eat any since they were sold out. I'm looking forward to going back. If you have the time then you should make your way over. It will be worth your time.

Charles W.

Yelp
A unique dining experience! (I've been here three times, always with wife and bringing friends.) Reservations are a must, and "fingers crossed" for good weather as everything is outdoors!

Eric J.

Yelp
Such a pleasant experience visiting this farm and market. Make sure if you're visiting Silver Lake, you stop by the garden and visit the shop. It's worth it!

Yelp
If you're near the area or passing through, do yourself a favor and stop at this lovely little farm!! It's not the biggest nor the best but it's just really kinda therapeutic. You can't pick anything at the farm per-say, but there are plenty of homemade and handmade Michigan items for sale. Everything from maple syrup, baked goodies and apparel, to candles, soaps, mugs and pictures. And just about anything lavender you can imagine! Jams, jellies and butters, and don't forget to grab some Michigan fudge at the counter as you pay! The shop isn't the biggest draw though- the rock garden is a fun place to walk down into and let your creative side out. Leave an inspiring message for the next passerby to read, or leave a funny one to make someone laugh, like my kids did. Lastly, but not least, the BEST part of this farm- the lavender gardens and labyrinth!! Oh my! That labyrinth! It's really is something else! The best way to describe it, a walking meditation. It's so beautiful and so calming to walk around the entire thing. And walk it a few times, you really need to, to take it all in. The labyrinth is sectioned I to different gardens ie. medicinal, biblical, beverages.... just to name a few. My multitude of pictures really don't even do it justice. I've been twice now and look forward to many return visits. We came about a month earlier this year (July 7th) and the lavender was in full bloom yet. To really appreciate the full purple bounty, I'd say check it out closer to the end of July. But even still- it's just amazing! Again, if you're in the area, or just passing by, definitely check out it out, and get a little Zen.

Yelp
We came to the Cherry Point Farm today because we wanted to see the Lavender Labyrinth. I'm not sure why Condé Nast would pick this as a 'Must Visit' for Michigan. Most of what we saw were empty sections of root overgrowth lavender. Now there are several sections that have beautiful lavender but for the most part it has large gaping holes where lavender used to be. From the pictures online I was clearly expecting something else. See my photos. The market is quaint and doing a steady business. I'm not sure why because the prices are astronomical! $14.75 for a cherry strudel, $8.50 for a tiny jar of jam, and a dollar for a zucchini or cucumber at the vegetable stand. If you are in the area, stop and visit. Trust.

Yelp
What a little gold mine! I just attended the fish boil that was like dinner and a show. I heard the history of fish boils and couldn't believe how delicious the fish was. Served with potatoes and onion cooked in separate baskets in the cauldron. Watched the incredible way they burned off the fat that rose to the top of the fish. Homemade coleslaw, garlic bread and followed by homemade cherry pie and ice cream. Nice people. Socially distanced. Masks. Fun! The farm market had tons of goodies like strudel, pie, cookies, jams, jellies, puzzles, books and more... The amazing herb garden is worth the ride...i will be back... Ask for Barb...she is the talented author and Jack of All Trades....
google avatar

Lindsay D.

Yelp
What a lovely outing!! From a delicious lunch outdoors to the beautiful garden, the 2.5 mile exercise we got walking the entire labyrinth, and the cute shop for cherry and lavender souvenirs - made for a perfect day! Will be back next time we visit the area!
google avatar

Megan D.

Yelp
The cherry donuts. They're hidden. You see all the beautiful Michigan stuff and you could easily miss these AMAZING babes. GET THE DONUTS. as a low carb gal, I didn't regret that donut for a second. You won't either---unless you're allergic to cherries like my cousin Lindsay, then stay away... The "maze" as our kids called it is fun, many beautiful flowers. I saw something about a fish fry but I was distracted by the donuts.... Oh and they gave fresh produce so you can make up for the donut later!

Yelp
If you enjoy good food, and a bit of a history lesson, and some excitement you owe it to yourself to visit Cherry Point Farm Market, for the "Fish Boil" dinner some summer night. A great way to enjoy a summer night on the Lake Michigan shore line. Check their website for schedule and plan your visit now! You will be glad you did. Oh and watch out for the rolling onions.

Yelp
This was the highlight of our time in Michigan. They have the most beautiful orchards that line the west shore of Lake Michigan. Known for their berries, fruits, vegetables and herbs, this place is certainly one of a kind. We bought fresh cherry pies that were absolutely wonderful and walked in their lavender labyrinth, which was fragrant and delightful. I also stocked up on lavender essential oils and sampled their lavender jelly, which tastes very good on english muffins. The service was prompt and very friendly. I would highly recommend making a pit stop here if you ever find yourself on the west shore of Lake Michigan.

Yelp
We highly enjoyed the fish boil! Wow, what an experience!! Barbra is such a wonderful host (and owner). How awesome as she told us the story and history and explained the process and showed us as they executed each step with timed precision. And the coolest part, they throw kerosene in the fire to cause a flash flame and cause the pot to boil over, causing the oils from the fish to boil over and not stay in the water, thus not fishy tasting fish! Served pot boiled Lake Superior white fish and potatoes and onions. Then also serves sides of coleslaw delicious toast with herb butter. Everything was cooked to perfection and most delicious. Host was fabulous = Sweet, friendly as ever, kind, generous and chatty to all of us. It was served outside on picnic tables, but felt like we were in her own kitchen... like we were family! So nice. Came around with the extras to serve them all out. After dinner they served their own cherry pie with ice cream. Absolutely wonderful! Tip: bring your own wine (or beer), maybe some cheeses and apples or pear slices and crackers and such... maybe even a table cloth and bug spray, but not too much snacks, save room for dinner!! Highly recommend!!! Yum!

Yelp
Cherry Point has been a part of our family for at least as long as it has been around. We use to go every summer and stock up on strudel and eat ourselves sick at the Lake. Some of the improvements are the cafe, huge herb and lavender garden. What is great is that after more than 10 years the strudel and customer service is still excellent. Whats is awesome now is that the strudel is ONLINE and is shipped during cherry season! :) Don't miss out on Cherry Point if your in the area.

Julie W.

Yelp
The store is a fun place to visit - a lot of Michigan-theme items: books on Michigan, especially haunted places in Michigan, in-season fruit for sale, bakery items, Michigan gift items, t-shirts, hoodies, etc. Prices seem high on some things, but it's a gift shop/tourist destination. The labyrinth was disappointing. In fairness, the polar vortex of the past winter destroyed a lot of the lavender growing in Michigan, and this place lost a lot of their lavender, which somewhat impacted how the labyrinth looked, but the main part of the labyrinth didn't have much lavender. The labyrinth looks cool from an aerial view in photos, though on the ground it's a wood structure like a pergola around the edge of flowerbeds with a lot of native plants and others, lined with rocks. The flowerbeds aren't breathtaking or incredibly beautiful or unique - just flowerbeds. Some needed weeding.

Yelp
I was disappointed with this place not easy for handicap people. They have porta potty's which were filthy.ugh Plus pies priced very high. Went out of way to get there would not recommend.
google avatar

Suzanne H.

Yelp
Amazing. Beautiful journey to get there and well worth the ride. It is a great antidote to strip malls, corporate coffeehouses and the pablum we are used to experiencing. The food is delicious, the offerings diverse and the staff gracious. Go. Spend some time. Spend some money. Take the kids. Take Grandma. Have some good old times!

Yelp
Super cute place for fresh baked good and fruit. Their strudel and pie are good but I personally like to just eat their cherries plain and uncooked. They also have Michigan clothing and souvenirs. Their maple candy is a hit with my family. They also a fish boil (yes boiled fish) during the summer-sounds weird but very good!
google avatar

SF C.

Yelp
Attended their Fish Boil. Expensive BUT delicious tender fish and the fixin's! Learned a bit of history too as Barb, the owner, narrates as the fish/food is being cooked. Their bake shop has a nice selection of home grown veggies. Their blueberry strudel was delicious but the filling seemed like it came from a can. Was very disappointed with their cherry pie. Very tart cherries and the filling tasted as though it came from a can. Seems like they threw in some fresh cherries to qualify it as being homemade. Not sure the crust is homemade either. Would come back for their Fish Boil but not their baked goods. They do have a nice variety of "Michigan t-shirts".
google avatar

Scott G.

Yelp
Wonderful place for fresh baked goods!! Cherry turnovers are awesome. Local jellie's and jams.

Yelp
My dad took a large group of us to the Scandinavian fish boil hosted at Cherry Pointe farm. It was a good thing that we had reservations because this was a sold out event on a Wednesday night. It was fun watching the fish boil cook on the fire pit outside then 1 guy threw a bucket of kerosene to boil the oil off of the fish. Herb butter was dotted on the fish, whole potato and whole sweet onion. Everything was cooked to perfection with secret spices. A big slab of cherry pie with ice cream rounded out the excellent meal. After dinner a stroll through the lavender and herb garden was the perfect end to the evening. This was a wonderful group activity because we were able to spread out in the picnic tables below the trees.

Dom B.

Yelp
Extremely beautiful location. They have delicious cherry muffins and strudel. The outside area is amazing, you can smell their lavender plants from the parking lot. Places like this make me happy to live in Michigan.
google avatar

Andy W.

Yelp
what a great place to stop for fantastic cherry pie and other tasty treats as well as t shirts knick knacks a fish boil , lunch or the famous lavender maze. A man st if you are near silver lake.
google avatar

Tracy L.

Yelp
There is nowhere else like it! The Fish Boil is an awesome family style experience. I've added it to my annual Michigan summer 'Things To Do'. The shop is cute and the people are friendly!
google avatar

Liz G.

Yelp
Love, love, love their fish boils and lunches. Everything we got to eat was to die for and the scenery is so picturesque. I recommend going here 100%! It's so unique, comfy, and beautiful.

Bailey V.

Yelp
Love this place!! Their asparagus strudel is seriously to die for. They also have really good cookies. Everything is so tasty. Definitely stop here if you're in the area!
google avatar

Mark D.

Yelp
Very nice people, great service. Friendly advice, wonderful lavender maze. Great fruit jams, and CHERRIES!
google avatar

Miranda H.

Yelp
This is a great market, hidden a bit off the shores of Lake Michigan, but well worth the drive to visit. Great pies, great bread, great preserves. If you get a chance, go to their fish boil. It is a great way to spend a lazy evening, not too far from the dunes.

Liz N.

Yelp
This place was so disappointing . Nothing like their photo advertisement. Lots of holes where lavender use to be. Gift shop very small and café was musty smelling. The menu very small selection. Don't bother going there.

Donna C.

Yelp
I purchased a peck of gala apples and when I returned home, the first one I tried was mealy, so i decided to sample more and found that only one out to the peck was crisp. How disappointing. Everything I read says that a mealy apple is either old or from storage. A gala apple is not of the "mealy" variety. This is October, how can that happen? Have been to the fish boil and enjoyed it, the souvenirs are nice, but the sweet baked goods I have sampled are mediocre.
google avatar

Roy R.

Yelp
Cool place. Fresh fruits and the Labyrinth and Lavender filed were neat. My only problem was I found Cherries around the corner for a lot cheaper a pint, but hey I suppose you have to pay somehow for moving all those rocks around
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
I stumbled across this place by accident, and now I think it will be a regular stop on our annual trip to Ludington! Combination fresh produce stand, bakery (of cherry wonderfulness), gift shop, unique jellies, dried lavender, lavender honey, and lavender labyrinth... I know, right?? The moment you step out of the car, you might think you've stepped into heaven. The labyrinth center has various herb gardens labeled, such as medicinal, Biblical, healing, etc. I had an antsy kid with me, so I was cut short in my exploration... lesson learned... buy a treat first to keep her occupied while I explore ;)

Brenda O.

Yelp
We stopped at Cherry Point Farm Market on our way back from visiting the Sable Points Lighthouse. A beautiful market offering a little bit of everything. Yet I was disappointed. The strudel filling had too much corn starch that affected the cherry flavor . Rude staff, my daughter and I were looking at the baked goods and two employees cut right between us discussing whether their hair was tied back appropriately, and the older woman behind the counter was just plain crabby and seemed annoyed by our questions.
