4 Best Day Trips from Seattle | Condé Nast Traveler

"This “inn” harkens the Wild West—but in a re-imagined boutique way, with furnished glamping teepees, outdoor clawfoot tubs, and gourmet breakfasts—all surrounded by vineyards. What Cherry Wood lacks in conventional hotel amenities, it makes up for in other ways, like the working farm with horses. The farmers and cowboys running this joint are all part of its charm, and learning about the Yakima Valley from the ranchers guiding the winery by horseback tours is definitely worthy of accolades." - Jenna Scatena, Allison Williams

Pepper, the owner, is wonderful! We learned about her horse rescues and made the stay that much more meaningful. The accommodations were very comfortable. They remained cool at night and we stayed dry despite a thunderstorm the second night. Breakfast was a true highlight! Some of the best breakfast I’ve eaten!

Google
Wonderful gem! We had a great time, the twilight tubs were the highlight, the bed was more comfortable than home! Pepper is warm and inviting, look forward to staying again next year.

What a wonderful experience! My husband and I came to stay for our anniversary and this will be one we never forget 💕. Peppers hospitality and knowledge of the area were fantastic! It went above and beyond our expectations, not only with amenities provided, but with the absolute care and attention to detail! You can tell they love all of their horses and show the same love to their guests! I would highly recommend to anyone wanting a calming and serene experience!

Amazing! Horse accomadations were excellent! Fresh hearty breakfast every morning. Pepper is a wonderful host. Teepee's are extremely comfortable, down bedding and plush pillows make you forget your camping. Scenic vews, our horses and great wine, what else do need? Will definitely be returning with our horses and friends😆🍷🐎🌞

Google
We had the most marvelous time. The Pepper and her staff are professional, delightful and accommodating. The food was excellent, were well prepared by Tiffany for a very delightful and scenic horseback ride. The tubs, the fire pit, and the most comfortable beds in the world made our stay memorable. We will return.

We loved our stay and riding horses to the wineries! The facilities were great, food was fantastic, and the Fewel family was friendly and welcoming. They are supporting rescued horses, taking on a lot of expenses to save them. Come enjoy yourself and help support this family and their horses. You'll love it!

Stayed for a couple of nights. We had an amazing time. Owners of Cherrywood are the most wonderful people you will ever meet. The atmosphere and setting was just perfect. Breakfast is offered. Breakfast was made freshly and they used everything from their farm, so you can only imagine the freshness and taste. The owners rescue horses who would have been killed, many abused. They care for them, restoring their health and allowing these horses to live out the rest of their life with no worries. We slept in a huge teepee, which was a awesome experience. Wineries all around. On Saturday you're allowed to ride the horses to the wineries. I recommend Cherrywood for your next adventure.

Google
Who would have expect this amazing gem a beautiful 2 plus hour drive from Seattle. The teepees are comfortable, and nothing has been over looked, lush bath robes, mini fridge and smore fixings. Pepper and her staff are professional, friendly and obviously love what they do! The breakfast she serves is AMAZING...and don't forget to get Chris"s phone number from her and have him come out and make your evening dinner! An added bonus, the horse wine tour, twilight tubs and the view....treat yourself to a night or two at Cherry Wood B and B!

Yelp
What a magical place! Great way to find some rest and relaxation. The owner was very kind and welcoming. We enjoyed the tubs, picking apples and sitting by the fire at night. We will be back!

Yelp
Fantastic place. Great people. Great food and hospitality. Wife and I stayed for two days of relaxing, wine tasting and fly fishing. Can't recommend this place enough. Pepper the owner is a gem of a person. It's a working ranch and you are surrounded by orchards and animals. It's also a horse rescue and the money goes to a good cause.

Yelp
You want to sleep in a teepee and still be comfortable? Do it here. Comfy bed, warm blankets when you need them and an oscillating fan when you don't. Cell reception works just fine. If your phone gets low on juice, plug it into the outlet next to the fridge and bedstand. It's a fine set up and the space inside the teepee actually feels quite roomy. Want to go horseback riding + tour wineries? Do it here. All the horses are rescue horses which means they will charm you silly. Drink some wine at the local tasting rooms. Eat a delicious sack lunch served with ice cold water, which you will thoroughly enjoy. Trot back to basecamp with your ass sore and your muscles tired but your spirits high. Maybe you want to light the grill and throw some food on the BBQ, toast some smores? Do it here. Grills, fuel, lighters, and grilling accessories are provided. You just need to bring the food and beverage. Your butt will praise you for the cushioned seat and your eyes will soak in the gorgeous sunset over the neighboring vineyards and orchards. Care for breakfast on the patio with a beautiful flower arrangement and full service? You got it! Do it here. Ice water, orange juice and coffee or tea. Delicious warm and freshly served danishes! Eggs, sausage and fruit dish to follow. Love it! Love the location. Love the horses and the owners' ambitions. Profits here go back into the horses. 30 some horses on the property and they are all rescues. I'm recommending this one to all my friends. LOVE it!!

Yelp
Amazing!! We've been to Zillah quite a few times and always wanted to stay in the teepees. We decided at the last minute to drop the dogs off at the PetsHotel and take a furkid less weekend away. We pulled up to Cherrywood about 1 and were greeted by Terry. He was very nice and gave us a tour of the place. The teepees have an amazing view. You have quite a bit of privacy from the other teepees. We spent a good hour just staring up at the sky at night. It was so beautiful, calm, peaceful. It's pretty hard not to be amazed. Breakfast was...let's say it...amazing! They serve breakfast in the yard looking out over the valley. Fresh fruit, coffee, cream to start off with. Yummy orange juice. Our next course was sopollis? They were puffed pastry type of things sprinkled with powdered sugar. They came out warm with honey butter. I would have been happy with just this for breakfast. Next came an amazing dish. It was like a salad for breakfast! Spinach, egg, bacon, potatoes, onion with a white truffle sauce. My mouth is watering just thinking of it. If you have a chance, stay here. It's definitely worth it. It's a great experience and everyone is super friendly.

Yelp
The unexpected pleasure of Cherrywood is that each time I go, I learn more about horses, more about cooking, and more about the good life. I have been riding at Cherrywood for several years, and it feels more like home each time I go there. I have experienced everything from their retreats, wine rides, Joe Wolter clinics, and special events, and in every case, whether I am riding my horse, or one of the ranch horses, I've always had a wonderful time. Everything is authentic, from the good ranch horses, savory ranch cooking, and relaxed cowboy style. Pepper and Tiffany have a way of making you feel at ease, at home, and at rest. Ask if Pepper's morning hash brown bake is on the menu...sinfully delicious! Cherrywood is simply a place where good people, doing the right thing by horses, dogs, livestock and guests, can arrange things in such a way that you can have the experience that fits your situation, be it learning something new, tasting something different, or simply sitting on the porch swing and enjoying the view. Can't wait to go back. See ya soon, Pepper!

Yelp
I LOVE CHERRYWOOD!! Pepper and Terry the owners are absolutely delightful. Our group of girls just finished our second outing there--arrived on Friday and took baths outside in clawfoot tubs under the stars. We woke up to a delicious breakfast made by Pepper (fruit, frittata, baked brie in puff pastry) then took our winery tour via horseback. Keep your wits about ya...your horse is your designated driver and you still need to be able to stay in control. Sunday we spent the day at Ummelina spa in Yakima. After a weekend in teepees, in the dust on horses, the rainforest room and a massage was the perfect ending to a wonderful weekend. Ummelina Yakima is also right next to a wine store called Stems, and although we should have detoxed we ordered a couple bottles and had them delivered to the spa. In one word, awesome

Yelp
Want to have a B&B experience - you have to stay here. A night or 2 in a tee pee...no joke. The owners of this Cherry Orchard have set up tee pees on the property for you to enjoy. The tee pees come fully equipped with very comfortable beds and electricity. It is not hard to have a romantic night fireside before retiring inside your tee pee for the night. Summertime in eastern Washington State is magnificent - HOT sunny days and cool cloudless nights. My partner said he saw the milky way! In the morning Pepper prepares the best breakfast you will find in Eastern Washington! And did you know WA State in the Yakima Valley is wine country? Cherry Wood B&B also offers winery tours on horseback - this is a not to miss experience. After 25 years living in the Yakima Valley Pepper and her daughter Tiffany know exactly where to ride....

Yelp
An amazing experience! We started the day with the horse back ride winery tour, followed by a twilight bath, dinner and ending the night with s'mores. Pepper's attention to detail and delicious food made me feel at home. Tiffany and her crew made sure everyone was safe while visiting the wineries and riding the horses. We admire the love and dedication Pepper has for her horses and look forward to go back to support her rescue program.

Yelp
This is one of the coolest things we have ever done (and we have traveled a lot)! Everything about how it is setup is well thought out and executed. The food is amazing, the experience is something everyone should try! We will be back to do the horse rides as well!

Yelp
Cazy amazing. Wake your a$$ up in the morning so you can get to the coffee (w/ whole cream). Nice view of Mt. Adams.

Yelp
my pet-peeve on yelp is reading to the end of a Thumbs Down review on a steakhouse, & the reviewer FINALLY discloses they are a vegan. So in the quest for Full Disclousure: I'm not keen on camping. Yet this B&B experience was a unique treat. The teepees are tastefully decorated & roomy, the beds are comfy with electric blankets w/ dual settings, the staff & service were great, breakfast was filling & yummy. As for price value, if you are okay w/ trudging outside to tinkle in your private outhouse during the middle of night, while paying WELL over $150 for bed & breakfast, then you are a braver Camper than me :-)

Yelp
I can tell you from experience that this bed and breakfast is an AWESOME experience. Staying in a luxury TP, dynamic breakfast every morning, surrounded by rescue horses, twilight soaking tubes, and just fantastic service is just part of the experience. I truly cannot wait until I have the opportunity to stay there again!

Yelp
What a great time my hubby and I had at Cherrywood. It was a grand adventure. The food, location and accommodations were unique and beautiful. One of the most comfortable beds I've ever been in and it was in a teepee!

Yelp
We love this place! Cherrywood is a hidden gem in the Yakima Valley. We have stayed here 2 times for our romantic getaways. Pepper and Tiffany are wonderful hostesses. They really love their horses and doggies. The property and accommodations are amazing! This is Glamping at its best! You are surrounded by 360 degree views of the beautiful valley with all of its bountiful orchards! If you enjoy being outdoors but, want that pampered hotel feel, this is the place to be! The teepee is fully furnished with a comfy bed, fur rugs, heated blankets, mini fridge, and fans. There is a bathroom next to each teepee and a full bathroom and shower nearby. They come fully stocked with toiletries, robes, hair dryer, firewood, grilling kit, and everything you could imagine! A clean barbecue grill and fire pit can be used at each teepee site. We did a steak dinner and s'mores as we watched the sun set last night. A yummy, gourmet breakfast is provided for you on the porch every morning. I would come here just for the wonderful breakfasts! Pepper and Tiffany do an excellent job guiding you on horseback through the grape, pear, and apple orchards to each winery. These women are great! The horses are very gentle and easy to ride for beginners like me. If you are seeking a private, romantic, unique, fun, and relaxing experience, this is the place to be. It is also great for a quick trip with your girlfriends or to come here with another couple. It's fun for all! Children are not allowed here which makes this place even more relaxing. We will definitely be returning again.

Yelp
Had an amazing two days at Cherry wood. Pepper and Terry thought of every detail and were so kind and welcoming to us. The teepee was beautiful and extremely comfortable. We had our own fire pit and were provided a s'mores kit which was a blast. The weather was gorgeous and the outdoor tub area was amazing. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
My sisters and I went wine tasting for the weekend and stayed in a tee pee at Cherry Wood, recommended by a local spa employee. This place has a couple tee pees, as well as some old Stream-liner Trailers that have been remodeled on the inside. The tee pees were wonderfully decorated with big comfortable beds and cozy down blankets to keep you warm in even the coldest of nights. The owners also supplied us with our personal s'more set which we cooked over the camp fire and gave us a chance to catch up with the other families and couples staying there. Let's not forget to the mention the wonderful 3-course breakfast we woke up to the next morning. Fresh fruit, eggs, stuffed french toast, and some breakfast pie. What more do you need to get your day started? This is a great place to go if you are in the area. Romantic for couples, fun for families, and a great experience for anyone to unwind after a day of wine tasting. Only thing I didn't like - closest restaurant was 20 minutes away. That is, unless you can catch dinner early enough a one of the wineries.

Yelp
What an amazing find! My boyfriend and I enjoyed a fun weekend of road biking in Yakima and Zillah. We stayed in an authentic tee pee which had the flavor of "roughing it" but was romantic and filled with comfortable delights like a bed, hot shower opening up to the sky and a plentiful gourmet breakfast overlooking the horse corral. Private and personalized this bed and breakfast offers a unique experience.

Yelp
This was my 2nd visit to Cherrywood and I think it's even better than I remember. The bunkhouse is a fabulous addition. Pepper's breakfasts are incredible. This might become an annual event for me.

Ellie B.

Yelp
Had a great time at Cherry Wood. We were there during a cool, rainy weekend and still loved it (teepee is waterproof and electric blanket + down comforter keeps you warm!). Opted for walking/hiking to wineries instead of the horse tour, and still had an excellent time visiting vineyards and tasting good wine. At night we made a fire in our firepit and enjoyed some of our newly found wine. Breakfast in the morning was yummy too. Only criticism was that the teepees were a bit closer together than I was imagining them to be. You do feel like you are in close proximity to the other guests.

Yelp
This place is incredible! We came for the horseback riding and wine tour and stayed overnight in the teepees. Everything was well prepared, and no detail was overlooked. We even had a s'mores kit in our fridge! And flashlights, which was great, since we had forgotten some. Everyone we talked to was friendly and helpful, our guides were so wonderful, and they really made our afternoon of wine tasting and riding memorable. Oh! And the lunch! Delicious! And don't forget about the most amazing breakfast we just ate! Sooooo good!!! Last night we also used the soaking tubs, and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. The stars were AMAZING! I can't say enough good things about this place and I will definitely come back when I can!

Yelp
What an awesome experience. Started the day With a wine and agriculture tour. Chose the cowboy limo hay ride rather than the horse back ride to visit the wineries and ride through the orchards. Saw and tasted different types of Apple's and grapes. Pepper would stop and pick them and then let us try them. She explained allot about the process of growing apples and other fruit. We saw peaches, apricits, Rainer cherries and pears. Pepper thought of everything, she stocked the cowboy limo with crackers, meat and cheese tray, dates and fresh picked apples for the ride, she also had blankets and umbrella s just in case, but we didn't need it was a perfect day about 75 degrees. At night we visited the furniture warehouse and watched an auctuon while we ate dinner. We returned to cherrywood b and b and started a fire in the chiminee and then went to the twighlight tubs for a long hot bath while watching the stars. After we retired back to our teepee and made smores (the ingredients were provided in our teepee). Then off to bed and yummy bed with heated blankets. Since we are from the east coast we woke early to watch the sunrise in the beautifully red painted sky while we listened to the horses, coyotes, cows and cats and dogs. Tea and coffee served at 7 and wonderful breakfast at 9am. Cowboy casserole, tomatoes with goat cheese and basil, cantaloupe with prosciutto and a lovely homemade apple crisp with fresh whipped cream. Prefect visit! If you get a chance go but you'll have to wait until next year because this weekend was their last for this year.

Tracey W.

Yelp
Mom and I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful 3 night stay in the teepees! We had the most amazing breakfasts every morning! I would not change a thing! Pepper and Tiffany are such wonderful hosts and are truly special people helping so many horses and dogs. We also did the horseback wine tour to Silver Lake Winery and Cultura where I bought wines at each (Pepper kindly brought them back so we could continue on with the horses). They provided everything you need for a campfire outside your teepee including a smore kit! We were lucky enough for a full moon and views of Rainier. I will be back and bringing my pup next time. Highly recommend!

Sue T.

Yelp
Everything we could have hoped for and more. The setting is peaceful, immaculate, tasteful and creative. The owner, Pepper, and her staff were so kind and knowledgable. It is obvious they love their horses and their horses love them! The horse have all been rescued and loved back to good health. We arrived in the am to find our amazing teepee waiting for us. We loved exploring every little creative corner on the farm. I agree with everything the other reviewers have written. Go there and love it!!

Fritz H.

Yelp
Wonderful in many ways but there are a few things that could stand pumping up. On the good side, the tepees are not just quaint, they are very comfortable, spacious, and functional. We were there when it was high 90s during the day and by bedtime (10-11) our tepee had cooled down to outside temps and was very comfortable for sleeping. The tepees are well spaced and oriented for privacy. Individual, near by outhouses also contribute to privacy. The view is also fabulous. The two mornings that we were there I had the best b&b breakfast I've had anywhere. Some things to improve?--At the breakfast table just crappy white plastic chairs that bend if you sit in them sideways. Alsocan be windy and cool even in the summer in the outside eating area. Hotwater in a sink other than in the shower would be nice.

Kasey W.

Yelp
The ranch owner was very distant, hardly saw her. The horses that they allowed us to ride were rescue horses, most of which were not fit to ride. The accommodations for the horses that we brought along were less than impressive as well as the accommodations for us. Advertised as "Posh Teepees", not even close, 5 small cots stuck in one Teepee when we booked as a two per teepee trip. We were told that we couldn't trot the horses because they had an important ride next weekend, as apposed to our unimportant ride. They advertise it as the owner likes to cook and makes the food, her help made it all and most of it was Costco food. Sanicans for restrooms, for $650 for a day and a half, are you kidding? If you want a bath it was $35 extra. I say boo! Never again!!!

Jessica K.

Yelp
Wonderful weekend getaway with amazing hospitality and wonderful accomodations. Everything was thought of and taken care of by the owners and staff. This place is very special.

Irene G.

Yelp
I went to visit the grounds before determining if I wanted to stay here. I decided to drive by before taking my children to school in Zilla, WA. Five minutes after I left, the owner started tailgating my car, driving erratically, and would not allow me to cross the intersection as he was blocking my view. What a nutcase. We will not be visiting here.

Dee R.

Yelp
Everyone in our City Slicking group had an amazing time :). We really enjoyed spending our day at Cherry Wood BB and B. It was our first time and most definitely will not be our last. Pepper, Tiffany and Denny were warm and inviting and gave us the experience of a lifetime. They took their time in educating us on how to interact with the horses they matched us up with and were very accommodating. They know their horses personality very well and were able to make good matches for everyone in our group. We had an amazing ride thru the Valley heading towards the winery. We enjoyed every minute with Pepper and her crew. There were great conversations and lots of laughter. The love and respect that Pepper, Tiffany and Denny have for their horses made a huge impact on us. They are truly genuine people. I can't say enough good things about them. The horses are rescue horses and as sweet as can be. My horse's name is "Doc". Very gentle, easy going spirit. We just took our time on the ride and savored every moment of this beautiful valley. Go and keep and open mind and you'll be blown away. This I guarantee. So worth it.

Yelp
I recently attended a Cowgirl Getaway event at Cherrywood BB&B and my experience was somewhat lack-luster. The event seemed overbooked, as we were told our group of 8 would have 4 teepees and ended up in only 2. One of the teepees was only equipped with camping cots, so we did not get the comfy bed experience the other reviews have mentioned. Also, we were put on horses that were clearly not far enough along in their rehabilitation to be ridden by the public (they bit and kicked each other, spooked at every little thing, and one of our group members was actually told to stay far away from everyone else because her horse did not do well with others). We were also told we could not trot or lope because they did not want the horses to be sore for an "important" ride next week. What am I... Chopped liver? That being said, the help was fantastic. We loved Patti, Ryan, and the breakfast gals. The teepees and outdoor showers were fun, but this was definitely not worth the price we paid.
