Wonderful experience. I think our room was called the General. Had a main room, second room with bed and hot tub, and of course a bathroom. Rooms were festively decorated for the season, there were wonderful baked goods and peppermint bark in the snack area, and the hosts were very accommodating. Location is perfect if you're from out of town to see a show at the township auditorium. Highly recommend!

I stayed at Chestnut Cottage while visiting my daughter at college, and it was wonderful! When I arrived everything felt so peaceful with soft music, flickering candles by the fireplace, and lots of thoughtful touches. Christal and Ken were genuinely so kind. They even upgraded my room because another guest was leaving early and they didn’t want me to be disturbed. ||My room was ready early, and when I needed a late checkout, they said yes right away. The room was clean, comfortable, and beautiful. Breakfast each morning was homemade and delicious. Christal and Ken are friendly and easy to talk to. They gave great tips about local places to eat and visit. ||I left feeling relaxed and will definitely stay again next time I visit.

We had a wonderful stay. The hosts were incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the Garden Room was so cozy. I don’t think I’ve ever slept in a bed that comfortable while traveling. You can truly tell how much care they put into making the experience worthwhile. This will definitely be our go-to spot whenever we’re in the area.

A truly beautiful, historic inn providing an amazing bed & breakfast experience! Ken & Christal are gracious and welcoming hosts who take the extra steps to ensure that their guests enjoy a comfortable and memorable experience. Every part of our stay, from our initial greeting to a heartfelt farewell, was absolutely top notch. Our room was spacious, well appointed, quiet and spotlessly clean, with a comfortable bed and thoughtful conveniences. Breakfast was a delicious and indulgent affair and we felt very pampered. The inn is centrally located, in close proximity to restaurants, Capital and other sites of interest. But at the end of the day, the best part of our stay was the kindness and hospitality of our hosts, who take a genuine interest in the comfort and welfare of their guests. We look forward to returning very soon to wonderful Chesnut Cottage!

The only thing my son wanted for his birthday this year was to spend the night at Chesnut Cottage. The owners made such a fuss over him, from the small details like popcorn and a hot cocoa bear in his room, to the sweetest birthday card and cake! They made him feel so special and loved. ❤️ He loved every second and said it was his “best birthday ever”!

We love to stay at B&Bs when we travel and Chestnut Cottage is the best! Christal and Ken are awesome and the accommodations are second to none. It is a beautiful house, the rooms are fantastic, beds are ridiculously comfortable, breakfast each morning is like dining at a 5 star restaurant, and the location is absolutely perfect. I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else if possible. They really pay attention to the smallest of details and make you feel like family when you are there. They are always our first choice. Only problem with writing this review is that they’ll be booked when we go!:). Can’t wait to visit again!

My husband and I stayed for my daughter’s college graduation. The hospitality and accommodations were far beyond expectations. My daughter and boyfriend hung out with us and were invited to join us for breakfast the next morning. In the words of my daughter she will never stay any other place in Columbia after this experience. Highly recommend.

I believe I’ve stayed at Chesnut seven times. I will stay nowhere else! Christal & Ken are the kindest, most thoughtful, & knowledgeable people. The elegant details are exquisite. The rooms are beyond description! The most comfortable beds, linens, high end toiletries. The lovely music floating through the hallways. The food is impeccable! All fresh squeezed juices, locally grown fruits & vegetables. Everything is homemade & absolutely delicious & made with love. The gazebo & garden outback are so peaceful. So many different birds visit because who wouldn’t?! The cottage is drenched in history, books, antiques. Every single thing is placed with thought & care. They remember your favorite food & drinks & have them for you! I’ve been to 56 countries & stayed in the best places & Chesnut is my hands down favorite place.

Yelp
Nestled in downtown historic district of South Carolina's capital city, Chesnut Cottage Inn has been a highly sought after destination for guests looking for a peaceful retreat, a romantic getaway, or a base for exploring the surrounding area. This hidden gem has welcomed guests for almost 40 years, and it remains the last locally owned and operated B&B of its kind in Columbia. Our guests can find serenity in the Cottage's welcoming and cozy accommodations, enjoy freshly made breakfasts every morning, and experience the Cottage's rich and enchanting history.

Yelp
Odd circumstances led to this being the best bed and breakfast experience I've ever had. Mary was an angel, the best host someone could ask for. Not only is she incredibly kind and accommodating, but her wealth of knowledge on the area will leave you with days of activities and historical sites that you would never think of seeing. The building is rich with history, clean, and incredibly comfortable. The food was fresh, the coffee hot, and the conversation lovely. Located a short walk away from everything the city has to offer, there's no other place I would consider staying in Columbia.

Yelp
Chestnut Cottage is amazing and Mary is an incredible host. The history of the house dating back to the start of the Civil War is so interesting to learn about. The rooms are all beautiful and the outdoor areas are dreamy and full of Southern charm. And you might even get a fluffy breakfast guest.

Yelp
A beautiful home full of antiquities of a historic time in America. Lovely couple taking care of every special request and then some. On my list to return.

Yelp
The owner, Mary, is an absolute delight! She truly makes you feel welcomed and like family. The rooms were so clean, and beautifully decorated. I love the fact she had whirlpool bath tubs. The beds were incredibly comfortable. Even the sheets and towels were perfect. I stayed in the General's room and it was huge! We are local and stayed for a night away from the kids. We will definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Staying at Chestnut Cottage is truly like staying at a friend's house! Mary is a wonderful hostess-and we've gained a new friend. The porch and other outdoor areas are perfect for remaining socially distant. The Garden Room is spacious and lovely. We had a one night staycation/getaway for our anniversary and feel so relaxed and rejuvenated, like we were away longer. We will be back and are already planning our next visit!

Yelp
We stayed here as a family for our son's wedding. We loved the beauty of the house and were able to just relax thanks to Mary! We loved the gazebo area and the front porch! Felt like we were family. A beautiful spot. This will be part of our favorite family memories! Mary was wonderful!

Yelp
This Bed and Breakfast is a perfect place to stay while in Columbia, SC. It was way more that we expected. The room was large and well appointed with everything that you could possibly need or desire. The breakfast was fantastic. You will NOT be disappointed. Mary, the owner, is the BEST hostess and the MOST attentive ever. We would stay here again for sure, if we are anywhere close to Columbia, SC.

Yelp
If you appreciate local flavor and good breakfast, this is the perfect Columbia stay! It is located on the outskirts of the USC campus and a couple blocks away from the city attractions like the Vista and Five Points (where shops and food are). The B&B has a historic, antebellum feel to it that makes you feel like you're staying at your grandma's house. Everything is clean and neat, but cozy. My parents (~60 yrs old) stayed here. (I was just invited over for the breakfasts). They felt right at home, and well-accommodated. The home is bright and welcoming, just like its staff. The couple that runs it couldn't be any sweeter and more helpful. Their vast knowledge of the local scene, how to get around Columbia and South Carolinian history is impressive and very helpful. Now for the BEST part...the breakfast. OUT OF THIS WORLD. The cook has been in the business for years- everything from catering businesses to cooking for celebrities like Jake Gylenhaall! The first morning, we had scrambled eggs with yellow peppers, onions and cheese, bacon and roasted potatoes. It was accompanied with a berry and yogurt parfait, orange juice and/or coffee. The second morning, we had the most delicious breakfast I've had in a while...eggs seasoned with herbs- who knew eggs could have such flavor! It was paired with cooked ham and an amazing french toast. The toast was dressed in an apricot, strawberry, honey, pear and nut compote...It was incredible. I'm still drooling over it.

Yelp
On the spur of the moment my girlfriend and I decided to go to Columbia - check out the zoo, the art museum and some of the restaurants. The website was a little wonky - had to refresh several times but I suspect that was the hosting company. One I was in it was easy to set up a reservation. I got an email confirming the request and a few moments later I got another email confirming the reservation. The house itself is gorgeous and well maintained. It is nicely appointed with antique furniture, enough books to fill a small library and engaging artwork. Gale the innkeeper was polite, friendly and charming. He gave us a tour of the house and its history. Our room was very cozy and quiet with a lush king sized bed. Our room had a private entrance and that made exploring the city's nightlife easier. The next morning we enjoyed the option of taking breakfast in our room - a brioche French toast, spinach and cheese omelette, fruit and yogurt parfait and fresh juice... In sorry, we had a great visit and look forward to returning in the fall.
