Ches's Famous Fish & Chips

Chess’s….what happens to you? The portion was very small and it was horrible. We had the 4 piece fish and chips with gravy and drink for $29.99. The fish was frozen for about 2-3 years I suspect. Absolutely awful. And what’s up with the portion size. I guess it’s the end of an era for me I’m afraid. There are so many other options for F&C.

I visited this restaurant to pick up our order and when I showed up an older lady brought me my overpriced fish and chips and said " If you want to stay any longer I have two bodyguards here with me". So nothing else was spoken to me but those words, 2 rnc officers that we're present i guess was the "bodygaurds". I still dont understand why I was treated like a criminal rather than a customer but judging by the overpriced bad food and bad attitude. I will never visit another chess fish and chips again!

Just lovely!! The lady that served us, lunchtime October 14, was so sweet and kind. The fish and chips were fresh and delicious. Spot on!! We will be back!!

Man ol' man ! I've never ate so good before in my life. The fish and chips on Commonwealth, mount pearl , was amazing absolutely delicious

Best fish n chips on the island!!! Burgers are fantastic as well. The onion are a must!!!

If I could give a minus star it would be -5. The fries that I am reviewing were the most DISGUSTING I have seen in my life. They were black, soggy and soaked in grease to the point you could ring out the fat. Truly! Threw them in the trash. I am commenting on the Commonwealth Ave store. There is NO way they change their cooking oil regularly. No bloody way! How can you get golden fries when your cooking oil is..black! I can only imagine a tourist being served these fries or anybody else for that matter. Will be contacting Cathy Barbour tomorrow. NEVER, EVER again will I be a customer. My advice people…choose another fish and chips establishment.

Amazing service today. Quick, and of course the food was outstanding. Not sure who the lady was (receipt said Alice?) But she was super friendly.

St. John's based chain restaurant. Excellent staff who took care of me even when it's a fast food style place. Fish is fresh. Make sure to eat it with salt and vinegar 😀
