Chess Forum

What a special place this establishment is. From the moment you step into the Chess Forum you feel like you've been transported back to the 70's, 80's, or 90's. This is a great spot to hone your chess skills, get lessons, or buy chess paraphernalia. Everyone was so nice and welcoming today, we'll definitely be returning on a regular basis. The Chess Forum is a true NYC gem!

Me and my Mom had a great opportunity to come to NYC during Christmas holidays from Kyiv, Ukraine. We were gifted a wonderful book about 111 places you shouldn’t miss in NYC. I found the chess forum there and was so glad that we went here! A lot of people were staying there playing chess with strangers, friends and teachers. The place truly feels heartwarming and friendly. We didn’t have time to enjoy a game but I highly advise you to stay for a bit longer and play here! You can also buy a whole chess set or separate pieces. I bought a knight piece for 2 or 3$ and now I carry it everywhere to remember my late grandfather who taught me how to play chess and was a great Ukrainian chess player and his favourite piece was a knight! It’s great that such places as chess forum still exist, thank you for lovely memories!

What a unique and fun place to connect with like minded chess friends! This is my favorite spot to hang out, make new connections and improve my skills. Was thrilled this visit to have met a wonderful chess teacher and have a lesson right there in house. Can't wait to come back again soon to visit. Thank you guys for all that you do the chess community around you!

Had such a fun time. We played back gammon. A lot of people inside but still enjoyable and the music was very low so it was very easy to have a conversation. Everyone seemed very sweet and definitely recommending it, especially when it’s drizzly weather, because it’s cozy.

My sister surprised my son and took him here as he loves chess! This place was so unique and he was able to play games of chess (regular and speed) against other players. I love that places like this still exist. My son said it was one of best experiences of his life!

During my trip to NY i randomly came across the chess forum. Incredibly nice people working there, showing us all the unique and historical chess boards they had in store. Feels like a very warm and passionate community just a few steps from washington square park. Don’t hesitate to just pass by to chat or to play, you will not regret it!!

Three words can summarize this place, kindness kindness and kindness It was such a wonderful experience visiting here. My son, Gabriel, had a lovely time in the cozy and warm atmosphere. He enjoyed it so much that we visited three days in a row during our trip to NY. I hope we have the opportunity to visit again soon.

2nd time here. Shopkeeper has always been nice and its cool that the shop provides chess boards and a few clocks for people to play games. Only problem is its kinda dirty, but thats probably b/c people can bring outside food and drinks.
