10 Best Tours in Philadelphia | Condé Nast Traveler

"Chew Philly Food Tours runs some of the city's most popular tours, and its two-and-a-half-hour walking tour of Manayunk, one of Philadelphia’s most beloved neighborhoods, is particularly notable. Groups top out at 18, and there's one guide who is well-versed in Manayunk’s history and food scene. These tours, which run from May through November rain or shine, tend to draw local dining obsessives as well as international visitors. You'll taste eight things, and the bites are far from skimpy—so come hungry." - Nancy DePalma

Chew Philly was my favorite part of my trip to Philly! First of all, the food is to die for! Add to that the knowledge of the tour guide and the welcoming friendly vibes of all the restaurant and shop owners and you have, hands down, the best thing to do while you are in Philly. First of all, the Schmitter at McNally’s Tavern knocked me off my feet. It was like a meaty kiss in the mouth. Full disclosure, I have a food allergy and cannot eat wheat. The tour guide, Elyse, made sure I got to experience something at all locations. There was also a vegetarian on the tour, and she was fully accommodated as well. Next we had cheese from the Chestnut Hill Cheese Shop. The owner and his wife made us all feel at home and described the decadent cheeses perfectly paired with a little sip of wine and a few laughs as well. Try that truffle cheese. It is the real deal. The olive oils and balsamic at A Taste of Olive next door were a welcome surprise. I have never tried olive oil like that before. Emma was knowledgeable and directed everyone to try various types and flavors. Highly recommend the Apricot White Balsamic. Next we stopped at the Market at the Fareway and had cider from Chestnut Hill Brewing Co. The gluten eaters were lucky to try some pizza, and I was very jealous to hear them rave about it. The chocolate truffle from Made by ME was a perfect dessert. But the real dessert was from Bredenbeck’s Ice Cream Parlor. Caramel ice cream with whipped cream and syrups was the perfect end to this tour. Overall, this well-organized, informative, and DELICIOUS tour is an efficient and enjoyable way to experience the real Philadelphia. The historical context along the way made all the food that much more enjoyable, plus the small, intimate tour size makes you feel like a VIP. Chew Philly is a must-try for locals and out-of-towners alike.

We did the Chew Food Tour in Manayunk this past weekend and loved the entire experience. The food was delicious ( Tubby Robot Ice Cream was my personal favorite) but the tour itself was the best part. As a Philadelphia local, I realized how little I actually knew about Manayunk and the history of some of my favorite food. Bethany, our guide, was knowledgeable, friendly and funny. She was a total pro and made the tour a real experience. Thank you again Chew Food Tours. Can't wait to go on the Chestnut Hill one.

What a fun time! My husband and I went on a food tour of Chestnut Hill this afternoon. Our guide, Bethany, was so fun and interesting. The food samples were delicious and the Chestnut Hill cheeses shop even gave us a discount for being on the tour. (Try their manchego!) We had a great day out, tried lots of yummy foods (thank you Bredenbecks for the awesome sundae!), and even learned a few things.

The Manayunk Food Tour was simply amazing. It was a great time to experience this with friends. We sampled some of Philly's most treasured foods and treats all while laughing, walking & learning the neighborhood history. Bethany did such an amazing job- from all the knowledge she shared mixed with some personal appreciation she has for the neighborhood to her charming humor. We left with smiles and happy bellies. And we fell in love with Manayunk and its lovely small businesses.

My boyfriend and I have toured Manayunk with Bethany twice now, once the regular tour and once on the haunted tour. Both tours were a wonderful glimpse of the history & flavors of Philly! All tastings were prepared with love and the businesses that participate really care about the products they put out. My personal favorite was the pumpkin spice latte from Volo & French macaron from Nutmeg Cake Design. But honestly everything was great! These tours are a great way to spend a day learning a little about the neighborhood and I hope they expand to Phoenixville soon- I think that would be a great area to do a tour in!

This was a blast! I bought tickets as a birthday gift for my younger brother (23) and we loved the tour. It was a great way to spend the day outside. The weather was perfect, the flow of the tour was well-organized, the food was delicious, and our tour guide, Bethany, was both knowledgeable and fun. My favorite food tastings were the stuffed bread from Marchiano's Bakery and the ice cream from Tubby Robot Ice Cream Factory. I highly recommend this for any occasion.

Best Food Tour Experience Ever! My friend and I took the Manayunk tour while visiting Philly, and I highly recommend this tour! This was a great way to get an introduction to the history of Manayunk along with generous samplings from a variety of local restaurants. Our guide Elyse brought the area to life through interesting stories and facts, fascinating people and delicious foods. What a delightful way to spend a few hours and Elyse surely made it memorable for us, we'll be back!

We just went on the Haunted Food Tour with Bethany this past weekend in Manyunk and it was a really fun and tasty experience. It was really obvious how much love Bethany has for the area and it gave the tour a really authentic experience with lots of great stories and character. The food was amazing! It was great to try a bunch of local restaurants that you don't always hear about when coming to Philly. I would highly recommend this tour any any other tours by Chew.
