"Turkey-and-seitan sandwich from a cafe called Chez Alex in Bed-Stuy. I like a good turkey sandwich. This is the first time I’ve had turkey and seitan. It had some chipotle mayo on it, which was also good."

Went for a weekday lunch with a friend and was pleasantly surprised at the tastiness of the sandwiches! The bread in particular (focaccia and ciabatta) were really tasty and fresh. I also got a strawberry basil lemonade that was killer, and an apple turnover that was very flaky and tasty (despite being vegan, as many of their pastries are.) I’ll be back!

Google
What a great spot with a lots of excellent choices, be it breakfast, lunch, coffee or a snack. Seldom have we found such delicious vegan pastries (the brownie is AMAZING!) and all 4 of loved our varied breakfast choices. The only hard part is scoring a table, but take-out is still a worthy choice to be able to try all the goodies.

Google
They have a lot of vegan options available here! I wanted to try everything but this time all I tried were some of the vegan banana bread and an iced coffee. It was a nice cinnamon infused sweet banana bread. I loved it a lot and want to go back to try all of the other vegan desserts and pastries. I also want to try their vegan sandwiches. The staff were really friendly and it was busy because it has such a good atmosphere. I definitely will make my way back here to try more stuff!

Google
i specifically asked if the bowl had anything spicy because i can’t eat spice. they said no and it did. also i think 20 minutes to make a bowl with two people in the kitchen when it was not busy at all is a very long time. the amount of protein (chickpeas) that it has is no more than two tablespoons, which is not enough for someone who isn’t a baby

I’ve been going here for a year now and it’s my favorite cafe in Brooklyn. Their coffee is always top tier, the salmon toast might be my favorite breakfast in New York, the greenery and decor and music are always good. Also, I’m not vegan, but they have the best pastries, most of which are vegan. Just a phenomenal spot.

Google
Finally tried their food! I’ve had their delicious coffee several times now and always heard they have great vegan options. The tofu sandwich was great. My partner had an egg and cheese which he said was delish. Super cute inside.

Google
Fantastic made/baked fresh items. We ordered various items on the menu and everything was absolutely delicious! The ginger mint lemonade was particularly amazing. Highly recommended

Google
Love the amount of vegan options here! They've got a huge selection of vegan pastries and more filling vegan meals. The Seitan Rising (vegan) breakfast sandwich is great and does the job in keeping you satisfied. Definitely recommend if you want a hearty breakfast option without feeling too greasy afterwards! I also love the cafe for its atmosphere - it's hip with eclectic artwork and plants, while also being a great place to study, since it has free wifi, some outlets, and a bathroom. Main drawback is the limited seating (it's a tiny space)!

Yelp
2nd time coming in for takeout! ordered a spinach&ricotta hand pie + Kevin sandwich (egg, tomato, avocado, spicy mayo, removed bacon) self serve water is appreciated. interior is so beautiful and cozy; so many lush, hanging plants filled the space. I was there when the light was hitting just right and almost regret not sitting down to eat! Food tastes so fresh and everything I've had has been a great portion. Looove the variety of (mostly vegan) baked goods and brunch/lunch entrees. Great little spot for an unpretentious meal!

Yelp
I appreciate a coffee shop that has a substantial savory food menu so I can stay awhile and eat while I get some work done. The wifi worked fine and they let you work on your laptop as long as you're being courteous and ordering drinks every hour or so. I enjoyed a latte and the Chorizo Bowl, made with cilantro-lime rice, pickled red onion, avocado, and spicy vegan mayo. It was pretty satisfying for only $11.50. They have so many different vegan pastries and vegan options on the menu so it's a great option for vegans and omnivores alike (fear not, carnivores, they even have bacon on the menu). Just know the tables can fill up fast, and they blast the AC in there so plan ahead.

Yelp
I thought the staff was pretty rude, and lack professionalism and customer service.

Yelp
My fav freaking place. Yummy pastries, good food, SUPER well priced stuff esp coffee. Great to grab a coffee and go, or sit and do some work

Yelp
I'm kicking myself right now because for the life of me I can't remember the name of the sandwich I ordered. It was a vegetarian one with melted cheese and lots of fresh veg. I'm not one to usually go for a veggie option, especially when there are other non-veg options, but I was really content with this sandwich. I ate it all and felt really satisfied after. Only issue here was really with the coffee. I got an iced latte and it was more coffee-flavored milk. Not particularly my favorite vibe but perhaps other options would be better! The general vibe of the cafe is very cute, and inclusive of dietary restrictions. During the week it was a great spot to work remotely, although I must say the AC can make it quite chilly so bring a cardigan! There were a lot of delicious looking pastries which I was eyeing but didn't get to try. Maybe next time!

Yelp
After dropping off my USPS deliveries on weekend morning, I discovered this little cafe about 5 mins away and my boyfriend and I walked there. I was drawn to the two comfy looking armchairs by the window overlooking the street. The ambiance was very cozy, with plants and trendy wallpaper making it look very welcoming and memorable. We loved the breakfast sandwich and the breakfast bowl. We felt the portions are pretty large (though not to the portion of a diner) and so our bellies were full. The coffee was also pretty flavorful and not thin at all. And my boyfriend and I enjoyed the vintage armchairs with a vintage table while people watching, and we felt pretty calm and relaxed until the lunch crowd came in. Overall a nice find. I'd return to do some journaling if I lived closer to the neighborhood!

Yelp
It is a decent vegan and gluten free cafe. The coffees and teas are simple and to the point and the wait time is relatively fast, you won't have to wait longer than a minute. The food and desserts are fine. My biggest gripe is that this is a sandwich and rice spot. If you are on a low carb and surgar diet, your best option is to have the cafe's $9 oatmeal or the scramble egg platter bowl, both of which are available until 11 a.m. The small menu might have something to do with the team being small there is only four people working there at a time. I am curious. Where do the baked goods get made, and how long do they stay on display? They still taste good! I have not eaten a bad pastry yet. One of the worst experience in getting coffee and a meal at a cafe is someone misunderstanding your order. These guys listen very carefully! Another inconvenience is the cleanseness of most cafes. This place, however, is cozy and clean. The bathroom looks like it was decorated like someone's private restroom with a very homey vibe, but at least I know it is clean.

Yelp
They have the best pastries around! And so many vegan options! We absolutely love Chez Alex and all their staff

Yelp
The Highlights- cozy neighborhood gem, healthy options I'm here all the time and have tired everything from the bowls(the two I posted are my fav) to the pastries to the drinks (ginger lemonade is a fav). Unfortunately I have to report is the second time finding hair in my food I'm hesitant to return Overall Experience: love the health conscious options and friendly employees that take time to get to know those who frequent. Hoping they can reconcile the hair issue

Yelp
Great REAL FRENCH spot. The baked foods are delicious as well as the savory menu. I still smile when I think about a brunch that I enjoyed there!

Yelp
Chez Alex is a neighborhood staple, and has great options if you are veggie or vegan--or just hungry. I am a fan of the BTL, the Clubhouse, the power bowls, and all of the tasty baked options. Also want to give a shoutout to their soup, given it's soup szn--these offerings are vegan also! Every time I stop by, the person behind the counter is warm and friendly, and there are usually folks working or enjoying a coffee/snack break. When I do get a drink, I opt for the iced options--lots of great iced teas and the cold brew gets the job done. I'm sad to report that I have not yet made it in early enough for a breakfast sandwich, but hoping to change that soon. A few times I've come later in the day (after 3) to find that they are out of things, but it happens very rarely and has not prevented me from going back for more.

Yelp
Avoid this place. Horrid customer service. My wife and I ordered two cold brews. They were extremely watered down and tasted as such. I drink cold brew almost every day, and you can tell just by the color when it's more water than coffee. We politely asked if we could swap out one of the cold brews for a different coffee and the two people behind the counter flat out said NO. They said their cold brew is good and we could not swap for anything. Are you serious? They literally said "maybe its just your taste buds". Extremely rude, arrogant, unprofessional, let alone completely wrong. Your cold brew looks like iced lipton tea. Also we ordered a spinach pie and asked for it to be warmed up. We received it back after it was "warmed up" and it was still ice cold. Just another reason these arrogant hipsters won't receive any more of my money. There are 100 coffee shops in this area, hit up any of the others for well made coffee and a welcoming atmosphere.

Yelp
The service here is fast. I ordered a vanilla iced latte and got my drink in less than a minute. I had a cinnamon roll, which was vegan and tasted great. I was super impressed and will be back.

Yelp
I came in for the Vegan Pastries, I bought 5 different treats, Blackberry Peach cake, Strawberry Lemon cake, Pear cake, Plum cake, and Almond Nectarine bundle cake. I know I'm a greedy Vegan OMG ,then I saw the menu so I ordered The Clubhouse sandwich with their housemade Focaccia bread with Chipotle Mayo, and I also ordered the Vegan Mac n Cheese with fresh scallions and crunchy fried onions mind blowing good. the atmosphere is peaceful and cute.

Yelp
Best Club Sandwhich I've ever had. PERFECTION!!!! Will be back when I'm in Brooklyn

Yelp
never a bad bite, fabulous selection of pastries (both regular and vegan) and reasonably priced. definitely my favorite coffee shop in the neighborhood! it's so cozy and everyone who works there is a sweetheart.

Allie B.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I eat here pretty much every weekend. THEE best sandwiches and vegan pastries here. My go-to is the Goldie Lox and I never get tired of it. Every pastry I've tried has been delicious. Love it here!
google avatar

Michaela B.

Yelp
I would like to begin this review by saying that the food here is good (like 4 stars out of 5) and so are the pastries. However, the service here is obviously biased and RACIST. Alex and AJ need to more closely monitor the daily service of their employees especially beginning with Emily. On more than one occasion I have encountered this woman's very blatant rudeness and thought it was just me until my partner (also Black) went in there today (03.28) and noticed the way she spoke to the Black man before him that left and went next door instead of ordering because of her attitude. My partner attempted to order me a sandwich (labeled the Goldie Lox). He stated he wanted the avocado sandwich with the lox not knowing the name of the sandwich to which Emily replied "we don't do substitutions" instead of directing him to the Goldie Lox. He left and returned to me in the car wondering why I would ever patronize a place with such poor customer service. I returned because I had to confirm that this was the same woman who'd exhibited this behavior before and of course it was. Here is the thing, I went back in, ordered my sandwich and then observed the difference with which she spoke to POC customers vs not and there was a stark contrast. I am Jamaican and used to good food being coupled with an attitude, but at least Jamaican clerks fairly dish out their disdain. Today, is not an isolated incident. My friend and I carpool our kids together around the corner and he has gone in without me and reported feeling the same overt difference in service compared to other patrons. Alex and AJ, unless you agree with the blatant disrespect Emily has displayed then I suggest you get her some additional training on the importance of Brooklyn culture being love based for ALL. In Brooklyn, we spread love. Emily either hates mornings or hates her life, either way she shouldn't be a front facing representation for your small business.

Yelp
A fantastic gem to grab coffee, some delicious pastries or a more filling meal - bonus points for a lot of those options being vegan! My only drawbacks are that there's limited seating, so be prepared that you might not be able to find a spot! FOOD (4/5): Ordered the Seitan Rising breakfast sandwich and a latte with soy milk. The sandwich was pretty good and filling, and a decent price. Love that it wasn't too greasy, as I find vegan meats can get that way. ATMOSPHERE (4/5): Beautiful space with lots of plants and sunlight from large windows in the front. I love that there's both cozy seating options for relaxing and tables if you're looking for serious work (or a more stable place to enjoy your food). STUDYING / WORK (4/5): A great space if you need to get work done! The cafe has free wifi, some outlets, music isn't too loud or distracting, and there's a bathroom available. The tables can be a little too small though if you're looking to work with another friend (aka, there's not much room to fit two laptops).

Yelp
OMG I am going to miss living by this spot. They made living in this area 10x better. I am obsessed with the energy that this space and I wish I could have another one of these places in my next stomping ground. The workers there are so nice and friendly! And the food is even better!! Yes, the coffee is great, but the food is unique and vegan friendly! I hope to visit this place again whenever I am in the area.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday afternoon to grab brunch to go with my homegurl who lives around the corner. She raved about how good the food is so I knew I was in for a treat! I was a huge fun of just the aesthetics alone--plants every and soft hues of pink, green, and blue. I so miss indoor dining because I would've loved to have enjoyed my brunch right there. My friend ordered the Goldie Lox sandwich (Smoked Salmon, Pickled Egg, Avocado, Pickled Red Onion, Tomato, Greens, Mustard). I had the Salmon Toast (Smoked Salmon, Pickled Red Onion, Cream Cheese, Dill, Everything Spice, Capers). Mine was so good! I didn't even pause for air while eating. It vanished in under 2 minutes. I didn't want it to end. The dill and capers included in the mix made me so happy! Boy, can't I wait to go back and try everything else on the menu! It took me damn near 10 mins to order because I couldn't decide between a rice bowl or a sandwich. I'm just glad to have a new, cute cafe in Brooklyn to be excited about. Thanks for the hospitality, Chez Alex! See you soon!

Yelp
I'm a big fan of coffee but Chez Alex provides more than that. Upon my arrival I ordered the strongest liquid form of caffeine they offer on their menu, and was not ready for the roller coaster my life would quickly become. Before placing the second perfectly heated sip upon my lips, I saw a universe of possibilities flash before my eyes, the potential that a life could live out. I realized how much love there is in the world, and how with just this little sip of bean juice how much I could tap into the collective consciousness of not only humanity, but existence as a whole. As I took a step back from the counter my life began to embrace its purpose, and the only fear left within my cowardly soul was how I would continue this happiness perpetually once my beverage was finished. The cookies are slammin too.

Yelp
I'm sad to say that after going here for 4 or so years, I can't be a patron anymore. I don't know if it's Covid, or management, but Chez Alex has changed a lot recently. They used to be my go-to neighborhood place for vegan pastries and lunch but after one too many times of getting wrong orders (meat instead of the vegan version- happened a handful of times), inconsistent hours and inability to make food off the menu (a couple times in recent months I tried to call in an order and was told they were too busy or there was no one to cook the food), I can't spend my money or time at Chez Alex anymore. I have also gotten the feeling they are understaffed, and know for sure that the staff today is completely different than the staff from even 6-8 months ago. That can cause any business to seriously struggle with quality and time management, but it feels very apparent when you walk in- which I don't think is a great look. I am writing this in the hopes that someone in charge sees this and takes it into account. I am just one person, but I have seen other order mishaps and overall poor service take place while waiting for food, so I can imagine my feelings are not unique. I hope Chez Alex can get back to the awesome neighborhood cafe it once was, I certainly know they're capable.

Beau C.

Yelp
Randomly came across Chez Alex with my friend. We got a black coffee, chai latte, chorizo bowl and the seitan rising. Cute seating areas but it was full when we got there, so we sat outside. Did not hear when our orders were done though. However, the staff was very friendly and they carried out one of our orders to us. Black coffee was black coffee - nice, safe, smooth. Chai latte tasted like water. The chorizo bowl was pretty good but note that it has a healthy scoop of jalapeños. I think I'd prefer if there was more soyrizo and maybe even more rice. The seitan rising was a decent sandwich-- good bread and had flavor. We'd come back to try something different

Yelp
So cozy, so tasty, no guilt. The food and soooo good and filling without any guilt. The service is no nice and the ambiance is very relaxing. Great place to work or to chat with friends or a mate. Will definitely come back again and again.

Yelp
Came here on a rainy afternoon for lunch after arriving in Brooklyn for a visit. Unfortunately, they were being inspected by the health inspector so it was a bit chaotic but the service was GREAT! I ordered the jackfruit Bahn-Mi and a matcha latte made with oat milk all to go at the suggestion of the cashier. The latte was perfect! I added a bit of simple syrup and it was spot on. It was a perfect complement to the rainy day and kept me warm on the walk home. As hungry as I was, I waited to eat the sandwich when I got home. I only ate half of the sandwich because something about the flavor was a bit off. I couldn't tell if it was pickled off or off for some other reason so I decided to eat half and wait to see if I felt ill. I didn't but I still couldn't go back to it. The interior of the space is cute for studying or working comfortably for some time. My final judgment: I'd come here for a study session and amazing matcha. I would try the food again in a pinch but definitely go with something other than the banh mi.

Yelp
Loved a weekend lunch here! Small but very cute inside and great vibes. Really friendly staff, and most of all, delicious, healthy, satisfying food! We got the Power Bowl, Bahn Mi, and amazing chocolate cake (all vegan). They also have a ton of other pastries, many of which are vegan (see photo), and the coffee looks gHighly recommend! I will be back!

Yelp
Adorable spot with lots of vegan pastries and baked goods, as well and sandwiches and healthy bowls. I was visiting a friend in Bushwick and staying for a few days/working from her home instead of mine so I can see another human being for once lol, and so I turned to Yelp to find the healthiest lunch options in the area. Chez Alex was an immediate draw with options like the Power Bowl and more. I ended up opting for the curry bowl, with sweet potato, rice, cauliflower, and curry. It was tasty, especially the sweet potato part. I ordered ahead over the phone and my order was ready right when I got there. I will say the place is very small and I was 1 of 4 people in there and there was no way to be at a 6 foot distance, so I was very appreciative of the KN95 I had since while 4 people doesn't seem like many, the space is very small. Double mask for this spot for sure. Very friendly service and honestly really good price for the bowl. Looking forward to trying something else on the menu!

Yelp
They have been in area for 3-4 years now its Hipster heaven- me 10 years. They are part of this awful gentrification on RALPH AVE. Today Customer walked out after waiting too long for Coffee. Why? 3 people in kitchen (one without a hair net/Hat) One person doing Coffee and register. Line went onto street. No one could help Barista and/or a dedicated Barista and Cashier would have handled Biz expediently without a F'n 15min wait for 1 Croissant. New York minute is 1 hour in this snowflake palace. Staff actually laughed at Man who walked out like he was crazy...? Bad F&B and Customer service. Won't go back unless my daughter requests Her favorite Cookie. Otherwise Go corporate Go STARBUCKS !!! At least you know what you're getting!

Jabari B.

Yelp
I love this place. I always order the same thing every single time I go and I put my friends onto it as much as I can and they treat people well. Lots of vegan pastries if you're into that. I've tried 2 and they were both really great. (carrot cake and Oreo cupcake) I get the Clubhouse (Turkey club that has perfectly cooked bacon and pickled onions and peppers for the perfect amount of kick) with a Ginger Lemonade (which is a refreshing blend of a LOT of fresh ginger and the perfectly sweet lemonade). There's a Strawberry Basil lemonade as well, but the ginger is my favorite. Friendly service. Freshly prepared. Black owned. A solid cafe on Ralph!

Yelp
Great bread. Tasty sandwich. High quality neighborhood spot. Will return for more soon.

Yelp
Awesome vegan desserts! Their selection is modest since they're a small business. But the options they do have are absolutely delicious. And the prices are SO low compared to other places. I got a vegan chocolate pudding cup that has layers of chocolate cake and fresh strawberries. The cake was incredibly moist and one of the better vegan cakes I've had. I also had the vegan raw chocolate chip cookie dough ball that was coated in chocolate ganache. There are no words for me to describe how good it was... Despite being a smaller cafe, they have about five tables and a few other chairs. The setup is a bit rigid, though, so the ambiance is not the best. They have a great menu of sandwiches with plenty of vegan options as well. The drink menu was a bit disappointing because there aren't any unique roasts or syrups. The cashier was nice but it's important all the workers know their food. For example, she didn't know the kind of cookie dough that was covered in the ganache. I was buying it either way but it's better if she was able to tell me. I like Chez Alex a lot and I genuinely wish them success. I'll be back for more dessert!
google avatar

Dayi T.

Yelp
I live right by this place and have visited out of convenience many times. Have not been back in a while though since I feel ridiculed whenever I ask the cashiers questions about their menu and feel out of place every time I enter. They seem to have a smashing time dolling out the quick qUirKy banter with their usual white hipster customers though. Their croissants (god bless croissants) are bland and ultra oily and idk how it's physically possible to bake croissants that unappetizing. Actually most of their pastries/quiches I wouldn't recommend. They do have a wonderful strawberry basil lemonade which was delightful and refreshing on hot summer days. And I enjoy their mochas! And LOVE their apple turnovers. not sure if they bake those themselves. The best facet of this place is their seating and plants arrangement. Very conducive to working/studying. Spacious enough and plenty of natural lighting. A couple of ugly gentrification junkyard aesthetic pieces but easy to ignore.

Yelp
My faaaaaaavorite cafe. Period. I frequent Chez Alex when I'm in Brooklyn for the night, which is a few times a week, and I haven't been disappointed yet. The food options are plentiful! There are vegan options (though, I'll note that I'm not a vegan and the quiches are fantastic -- my usual breakfast choice) and the coffee is great. Beyond that, service is fantastic, the workers are friendly, and the environment is wonderful! This is a sweet spot to grab a bite, a morning beverage, and to get some work done. And again: the staff!!! The staff!!! Is!!! Wonderful!!! An aside -- check out the bathroom. That sounds ridiculous, but the decor is fun!

Yelp
I was on a mission to find me some comfort vegan grub at Toad Style when I was greeted out of leftfield or maybe in this case right field with a cozy, intimate treat spot. And as people know, I got myself a giant sweet tooth!! Even though I was half a block from my destination I stepped into Chez Alex. (FYI Alex is a lady..fact) And in this said coffee shop was cases full of delicious looking baked goods. And recently I have fallen for quality vegan treats. The hard part here is picking just "one" treat to devour. The cakes looked sensational!!! Even the vegan cakes appeared to have a great crumb action. I knew I would have to return. I ended picking the vegan oatmeal chocolate chip. And then when I asked what coffee they had (I know...I'm one of those people) the barista responded that it was "Gimme"...yum!!! I HAD to add me some cold brew to my order. And as I waited for everything my kitchen accessories envy was growing. But in the most positive way. There's the best cake stands here ever with a little fox and another with birds. And then there's cute solar powered toys and cacti. The place is cute enough to eat. I need to come back to try the vegan sandwiches with fun names like "Crazy Eyes", "Dexter" and "Caputo". And what the hell are "beet and bean balls" and why do they not sound too shabby!? It's looks like they're making vegan sandwiches but stepping is up! There's also comfy seating to read a book or in my case creepily eat your cookie and suck down your caffeine like a weirdo in the corner with shades. This might have been the day following one too many glasses of vino.

Yelp
Dear God, It's me, Kateria. Thank you for listening to AND answering my prayers. You found me: A place where I can find a trillion vegan options. A place where #vegans reign and carnivores are..eh. A place that has fast #WiFi so I can work. A place that makes an amazing iced #chailatte with my choice of #oatmilk or #hempmilk. A place that has so many delicious #vegandesserts that I can't even deal. And lastly a place that's in my neighborhood of #bedstuy! Wait! A place where the food is #AMAZEBALLS!!!! Featured here are the #veganceasarsalad, #powerbowl, #pbandj bar and chai latte. #ALLVEGAN!!The #napkinkiss is courtesy of me of course. t

Yelp
Food is so good and the ambiance is adorable! The service was wonderful. Didn't wait too long for my meal. It was tasty and the portion was big.

Yelp
Must try the squash salad, vegan nachos and the gnocchi. Mind blown. The details with every dish is purposeful, tasty and delicious. Be prepared for @mario_buccellati to rock your plant-based world. Dinner menu is 100% plant-based 530-10pm Friday, Saturday, and Sundays.

Yelp
This place is amazing! The vibe inside is really great, there are a lot of plants and seating and it's a quiet place to read or get work done inside, contrary to the busy street it's located on. I got the sweet potato bowl and the price was really good especially since it's a large portion that really filled me up. The coffee was also excellent and I highly recommend.

Yelp
This cute little cafe not too far from my home produced a BLT that is AMAZING! The vegan desserts are also tasty. If you are looking for a safe to get some work done, the environment in Chez Alex is your place to go.

Yelp
Disgusting coffee, tasted old. High prices. You can't put the creamer in yourself but I couldn't even make this coffee taste good if I had been able to. For $3 I expect a decent cup of coffee.

Yelp
Fabulous atmosphere, perfect for Instagram. My girlfriends and I love the variety of vegan pastries. The chai latte is a personal favorite drink. I found prices to be very reasonable. In addition, the staff went above and beyond when I left a camera there, helping me get it back. Service is amazing all around.

Yelp
I love Chez Alex, I live down the street and love popping in for a Cold brew or tea(which they have a huge selection of) flavorful vegan and non vegan sandwich options too!

Yelp
Cute little vegan hole in the wall. I stopped here just to pick up desserts for a house guest and what do you know they had a plentiful supply of vegan options. Very cute place with a steady stream of people from the neighborhood coming in to get a Sunday fix for dessert. Seems like it's a great coffee shop as well. I can't wait to try it out one day when I work from home.

Yelp
I remember doing a bit of research before coming to Brooklyn about places near our Airbnb. I stumbled upon Chex Alex because it offered cheap and vegetarian options. I saw pictures and other reviews and decided we should go here for breakfast. My friends agreed and we left without any regrets. My friend and I ordered the Piper, which is like a turkey and cheese sandwich with arugula and a surprising but enjoyable mix of green apple slices and dijon mustard. I absolutely loved the Piper, so much I came back the next day and ordered another one. The interior is nicely decorated and looks bougie but hip. It's nicely air conditioned and the music gives it a relaxing, chill vibe which can be appreciated by people who want to get some work done or potential date. There's a bathroom in the back right side as well as a short pile of books next to the couch. This has been one of the best places I've been to on my trip.

Yelp
This is what I'd consider a "dive cafe" it has all the makings of a cafe (seats, decor, coffee), but it also reminds me of a reality show. The servers are really nice but the drinks vary so much in consistEncy (in terms of taste) that I always opt for a small sized coffee when I do come. However, the food is amazing! The vegan and non vegan treats are made right in the back! Additionally, it's VERY loud! From the employees literally yelling, cursing, and joking to the "unique" (for lack of a nicer word) music blaring. They play anything from death metal to show tunes to satirical remixes of pop songs. Sometimes it's just too much. It gets so cold in here. The AC is always on so bring a jacket! Overall, I'll still return but won't expect any frills.

Yelp
I love this neighborhood spot but sadly I will not be returning after finding hairs in my sandwich.

Yelp
I spend a lot of time in the Bed-Stuy area & enjoy frequenting the little cafes. By far my favorite. Service is friendly cool & casual, home baked goods including Delicious croissants, & salads are satiating too (you can substitute greens for rice... not a huge quantity of greens but I'd rather avoid the heavy carbs). Merci Chez Alex!
