The place has such a cozy, warm, and peaceful vibe perfect if you want a quiet, relaxed dining experience. As for the food, it’s definitely not bad… well prepared and nicely presented but the flavors are quite subtle. If you’re used to bold, spicy, or strong Asian flavors, it might not fully hit your taste buds. This spot feels more suited for those who enjoy classic European/French-style cuisine and mild seasoning. Overall, great ambiance and experience, but food-wise it depends on your palate.

Food was great, but all the stars go to our server Madhu, the nicest francophone man to ever exist. His attention and recommendations made the experience so enjoyable.

What a stunning little gem of a restaurant. The French-inspired menu may be small, but every dish was packed with flavor and care. The servers were nothing short of amazing, attentive without being overbearing. The attention to detail in every bite was extraordinary. We enjoyed the fresh jams that were bursting with flavor, and the eggs and mushroom dish was simply fantastic. The ambiance transported you to a peaceful haven, far removed from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. It didn’t even feel like we were in the city at all. I can’t wait to go back for a leisurely lunch!

A nice old reputed place to try French cuisine. It was buzzing with tourists from France or who could speak French. Babar Mahal is a quaint place with Rana culture & does have queer expensive stores. Food not bad, the chicken dish passable, salad was good but service great.

Chez Caroline is my favorite place to eat in Kathmandu. The best tasting food (by a chef who was actually trained in France), the best service and tied with the Chimney restaurant for the best atmosphere for dining in the city. It truly is a treat! I only wish their pepper steak wasn’t always so good so I might be able to try other tempting options on their menu. Their salads are awesome too. Refreshing to find a restaurant here that strives for quality and doesn’t drown everything with spices. But that’s why French cuisine is considered to be the best in the world. Chez Caroline truly is a rare gem of a restaurant in this food hell called Nepal. And it’s quaint setting in the center of beautiful and sophisticated Baber Mahal makes it even more special.

Great all round dining experience. Quiet atmosphere and exceptional food. We have Madhu to thank for service excellence and great recommendations for the fish, chicken of the day and creme brulé. Thank you for a memorable experience. NB: parking is quite limited.

The food was really sumptuous. Pretty much the best coffee ive had in a while. The service was on point and good. I will definately come back for more.

Great service and atmosphere. We got the watermelon salad and that was great. French onion soup and bread was also good. I got the Salmon with Mustard cream sauce and added some fries. Fish was perfect and sauce was fantastic. Fries were a little overdone for my liking. Dessert was amazing. Excellent crème brûlée and amazing chocolate lava cake with crème anglaise. Highly recommend.
