Chez Daniel

I had a wonderful experience at Chez Daniel! The mussels were absolutely delicious, and the squash soup special was really flavorful — definitely worth trying. The steak was a little on the chewy side but still tasty and well-seasoned. What really stood out was the service. Another big plus: they don’t close for an afternoon break on Sundays like many other restaurants, which makes it super convenient. Overall, great food, warm service, and a welcoming atmosphere. I’d happily come back!

We stopped here for lunch and it turned out to be an amazing decision! They kindly let me order from their dinner menu, which I really appreciated since I’m not the biggest fan of sandwiches. I had the ribs with potatoes and they were absolutely delicious. The meat was so tender it just fell apart with a touch, and the demi-glace sauce was rich and flavorful. On top of the ribs they added crispy bacon mixed with onions – the perfect finishing touch! 🤤 My boyfriend ordered the French onion burger and he really enjoyed it too. He even said he wishes there were more places like this in our area. The atmosphere on the terrace was wonderful – plenty of sunshine, a cozy autumn city vibe, and fun Halloween decorations. 🎃🍂🌞

Great place for a bite of warm food on a freezing cold day. Excellent service, nice atmosphere. Food was tasty, especially the squash soup.

Absolute pleasure enjoying the soft French ambiance topped with delicious food. Although I didn’t capture my meals, the salmon, burger, fish and chips were delightful. Will be returning again soon!

Cozy little French restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating options right in the heart of Frenchtown. Definitely a must go if you’re in the mood for some French food. High quality ingredients and a lot of love in the food! French Onion soup is a classic and they nailed it with a deep onion flavor and a nice portion of bread on top. Hamburger was phenomenal as well and had a very Smokey taste. Fish and Chips were great, but not my favorite. Desert was definitely the star of the show with a delicious crème brûlée and fruit tart. Both just melted in your mouth.

5 star experience and a very enjoyable meal. My wife took me to Chez Daniel for Father's day and we both were so pleased. As someone diagnosed with Celiac. I was drawn by the Gluten Free selections on the menu. As our daughter in law is an equally ambitious graduate of Johnson and Wales, I was intrigued by Chef Daniel's backstory. Our server was Ashliey and she greeted us and was well versed in food allergies and answered our questions. My wife ordered the Fish and Chips which was well proportioned and flavorful. I had the mussels provincal for appetizer followed by the special Steak au Poivre. The meal was delightful. I appreciate when dishes are presented in a very food forward manner and you can actually enjoy the taste of a mussel or hangar steak ( and not over seasoned) . Being a 45 minute drive away, I had never been to Frenchtown and I want to return and explore. It reminds me the town of Woodstock or some of the other quaint towns in the Hudson Valley where we formally resided. I am already looking forward to our return to Chez Daniel. Highly recommended!

I went with my husband and a friend on a Sunday evening and we loved it. Everything was really tasty and the staff is friendly. Daniel and the other guys are amazing! And of course, a shout out to the kitchen staff who makes that delicious food! P.S.: the pumpkin soup is deliciously good!!

We stopped in for an early dinner after a visit to a local winery. What a great little place! Food was delicious and came out hot and fresh! I had the steak frites, the steak was a perfect medium rare and even the green beans were cooked perfect and hot. My wife ordered the fish and chips and was impressed with the tender meatiness of the cod. The batter was crisp and hot without overwhelming the freshness of the fish. This was our first time here so just beware no cocktails or beer it is BYOB only but well worth a visit.

I celebrated my birthday at Chez Daniel. The food was terrific - we really enjoyed mussels, mushroom tart, crab cakes and steak. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Rose is a super star!!!

wowww! just wowwww Chez Daniel! everything was absolutely perfectly dished, presented, flavored, seared, spiced, every other word you can think of! Chef's Kisses! My family's and I first time here & oh my oh my we will be back so soon! We went on a Wednesday night for dinner, no wait & we got the table we wanted sitting outside. The waitress was so delightful, attentive, and smiley. The only thing bad I can say about this place is that I really wanted the lobster roll special & they were out I bet it was delicious, but hey I'll be back! Zero complaints, perfect food, perfect ambiance. To be honest I've never had a perfectly well rounded meal. We appreciate Chez Daniel!

Please don't insult the French by calling this a French Restaurant! The food here is mediocre at best. My Croque Monsieur didn't have much taste to it and the fries appeared to be just the ends. The place had no atmosphere to it. Not much of a French feel to the place. I went during Frenchtown's Bastille day celebration - and you would never know it. Save your hard earned money!

I have only ever heard great things about Chez Daniel and now I can finally confirm they are all 100% true. They have lots of space inside and a cute, covered front porch style seating area outside. We were able to sit comfortably with our pup, and they even brought him out a water bowl and stepped over and around him when he refused to get up. My lazy dog thanks you! We started with the crab cake appetizer and absolutely loved it! It was prepared in a way I really had never had before. Less creamy and instead in a tomato sauce with okra and a little bit of bread crumb crunch. They had a few ways to get the crab cake (app, in a sandwich, as your entree, etc) and I definitely recommend you try at least one of them. I got the grilled veggie sandwich and swapped the bleu cheese for swiss. So good! Delicious bread, loaded with a meaty portobello mushroom, spinach and red peppers, all with a balsamic glaze. Just a great sandwich with perfectly crispy fries on the side. Make the trip!

I feel I must review it how we go because it's always just as great as the first time. Love a place that is consistent love a place that is passionate about their food. On this visit, we opened up with making a slight change to the muscle appetizer and swap out for scallops instead with the creole sauce and boy it was just as great as having it with muscles thank you to chef Daniel for accommodating our request. For our entrées this evening, my wife had Chimichurri flat iron steak cooked medium raw, it was perfect. And I had the crabcake entrée which again was absolutely perfect. The sauce that he made was such a great accent to the freshness of the crab. Again, always a wonderful time Rose is a superstar and Daniel he is the main attraction.

Delightful dinner at this French-inspired eatery. Nice customer service and tasty treats. Kudos to Rose is very knowledgeable, accommodating and friendly. Highly recommend tarte aux champignon which was flaky, earthy, and flavorful, pommes darphine which was pillowy inside and crisp outside, and pear salad with jewel-toned wine poached pears. Sole almandine was extraordinarily popular and crab cake was enjoyable. Desserts were rich and satisfying - decadent carrot cake, smooth creme brulee, and absolutely delectable napoleon-style layered fruit tart.

Great service outside on deck on an especially busy afternoon@ No problem having our well behaved dog outside on deck too. Musroom and Swiss burger was perfectly cooked and delicious. Served with an avalanche of fries that were also superb. Would definitely go back.

I'm not entirely sure how to pronounce the name of this place, but I can tell you it's pretty good regardless. I came here with two of my OG chums this past Saturday for an early dinner (a little before 5 I think), on a deceptively nippy night. We made a very last-minute reservation (as in we were down the street walking over when we did it) but were easily able to secure seating. The restaurant was pretty bustling throughout our meal so if you have the ability to make a reservation more than two minutes beforehand, I would do it. This is a popular one right now. I've driven by this building countless times but I think this is the first time I've been inside it (it's relatively new so it's possible I was in whatever business was here before years ago). It has a pleasant interior; kind of rustic but also some obvious homages to France on the walls, etc. - what else would you expect in a town literally called Frenchtown? We split the brie en croute app, which I liked a lot. My only quibble is that I would have made the berry coulis denser to compete with the brie a bit better, but overall it was a refreshing way to start the meal. I didn't build up quite the appetite I was hoping for from metal detecting in the afternoon (which is one of the many negative consequences of a drought), so I went a little lighter than usual on the entree with the almond-crusted cod. It was tasty but presentation-wise? Eh. It's not really a fish you can "crust," if that makes sense, so the optics are a bit chaotic. It's more like a pile on your plate, which you can see in the attached photo. I did like the fact that the lemon sauce was on the subtle side - the citrus family is not one of my faves and it's often an accompaniment with seafood dishes, so I was pleased it wasn't the dominant flavor. Super flaky and loved the texture of the rice. The service was excellent. Not only did we not have to wait particularly long for our items to arrive, but our waiter was very friendly and nice. I was accidentally under-dressed for the weather so I ordered a hot chamomile tea (very rare for me), and one of my chums also asked the waiter to pick a tea for her. I have a chum who used to work in the service industry who told me to never order hot tea from a restaurant because it's incredibly annoying for them to prep, but my argument would be that if it's on the menu, all bets are off. Regardless, I think in this day and age it's relatively easy to make - we watched the guy literally just use a hot water dispenser and put the tea bag in. Was definitely the right choice on this particular evening. Anyway. He was also knowledgeable about the menu and had specific opinions about certain dishes; one of my friends ordered the salmon entree and he immediately commented that it was his favorite. We're always interested as born and bred creatures of the Kingdom of Hunterdon what the overall clientele in a restaurant looks like. In a tourist trap like Frenchtown, it's not unusual to go into an eatery that's full of out-of-towners squealing about the Delaware River or something. This was a very nice mix of both tourists and locals, which can definitely be a difficult balancing act. Given the bougie options on the menu, I thought this was priced competitively to allow for some of the nearby residents who might not be sporting boat shoes and polo shirts to wander in to sample the wares as well. Wasn't blown away but overall this was very solid.

Cut from the same architectural cloth as the downriver artist havens of Lambertville and New Hope, Frenchtown, NJ has a refreshingly different take on Delaware River chic. Instead of wall-to-wall galleries, new age curio shops, motorcycle club preening and overwhelming crowds, Frenchtown seems quite content to offer a much more accessible mix of rock memorabilia and plenty of shopping more aligned with Spencer Gifts than MOMA. Anyone for a Lava Lamp and a repro Jimi Hendrix concert poster? In between the kitsch you have to eat and that's where Chez Daniel makes the scene, offering a menu chock full of pub favorites and some very tasty upscale fare. I went for the fish and chips, she went for the Salmon. Both were outstanding... as was the service. It's BYOB and will certainly merit a return when my lava lamp kicks the bucket. Five easy stars.

The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. We ate outside and it was a lovely ambiance. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Visited 05/02/2024 My wife found Chez Daniel just lookin' for a place to go and eat. Great pick again honey. We couldn't agree on which mussels to order, so we got one of each. One creole style and one garlic/wine... Both good but I preferred the creole. (Of course the wife preferred the garlic/wine mussels. We decided to share the Short Rib grilled cheese sandwich and I'm glad we did because the mussels were "a lot"... and the SR grilled cheese... very filling. Everything was excellent, as were the ladies taking care of us... very personable and prompt. We're going to have to come 'round this way again soon... Oh! It's a BYOB!!

Cool place, local vibe. Steak Frites is a winner. BYOB, which is nice. Server was helpful. Will come back and try a burger in the future.

Chez Daniel Review What a gem! Chez Daniel is a dining experience far exceeding any reasonable expectation for, what seems at first glance, an unassuming, restaurant in a small town. Cutting to the chase - while there are many great places in Lambertville/New Hope, this experience is well worth driving the 15 miles to Frenchtown. The food is expertly prepared and presented. We started with salads - the Avocado over spinach and other vegetables with a perfectly done lemon vinaigrette and the seasonal (summer) salad on its final night - Mandarin oranges, beets, almonds over greens, all topped with feta. We had the Pork Chop Normandy and Braised Short Rib. Both were excellent and I would especially praise the pork chop. It was flavorful and tender but what brought this dish to a sublime level was the apple brandy sauce along with the apples and bacon lardons. I could have taken some in a "to go" cup and been in heaven. This is not to slight the short rib - tender and tasty with asparagus and fluffy mashed potatoes. Absolutely perfect. And because it was a special occasion, we threw caution to the winds and ordered desserts - a not to be missed gluten-free pumpkin cheese cake and an exquisite fruit tart that was definitely not a run-of-the-mill, mass-produced treat in the usual shell. Au contraire! It was a hand-crafted delight of strawberries sandwiched in a pleasantly sweet crust coated with an almost decadent but perfectly balanced "filling" (not really a filling in this presentation so I apologize to the pastry chef for using that word here) topped with blueberries, lightly powder sugared and accompanied by fresh whipped cream. The perfect ending to the perfect meal. The restaurant is tastefully decorated with many French touches and conveniently located in the middle of Frenchtown. It's extremely friendly to gluten-free diners. Our server was friendly, professional, knowledgeable and accommodating. Prices were VERY reasonable. We could not have chosen a better place to celebrate our special occasion.

We moved to Frenchtown a few months ago and I didn't know what type of food Chez Daniel had and was surprised to find they have the MOST DELICIOUS hamburgers and salads (amongst many other entree options). So good, service is great, and the staff is so friendly. Affordable and delicious!! Also, my son has celiacs and they cater to dietary restrictions

The food was delicious! Mussels provencal were plump and tasty in a tasty garlic and butter sauce with toasted sourdough bread to soak it up. Pear salad with the oears poached in wine with a very nuce dressing. The jambalaya was unusual with less rice than expected, just the sausage and seafoid, again very tasty. The crab cake was very goid too, with a crispy fried coating. The room doesn't have much atmosphere, but the food makes up for it.

We always want to explore the Frenchtown at the border of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Chez Daniel Restaurant is located before the bridge. Chez Daniel have Excellent service, Great tasting foods and amazing ambiance. If you ever want to visit The Frenchtown New Jersey. Chez Daniel is a Great Place to Eat.

Staff is nice but the food underwhelmed us. Soup tasted like it was from a can, the tea was powder from 4C, the salad was sparse, and the chicken overcooked. This is not a 5-star experience.

We ordered asparagus appetizer and potato pancake as an appetizer. Small portions aren't worth the prices. Sandwich we ordered isn't worth again . I felt they ordered from Panera bread and served to us . We were hungry that's why we ate everything but the money they charged definitely not worth this menu . Our server is a nice and kind person .

This is one of the best options in Frenchtown. It has a somewhat formal exterior appearance but is quite casual with a simple interior. Friendly service and the food is excellent. I had the Shepard pie followed with the carrot cake --yum.

This place never disappoints! A buddy of mine went into the new Italian restaurant across the street and saw how crammed in and crowded it was so he left and called me for a suggestion so I told him to try Chez D's because was one of my favorite places, so he went and loved it......... He is still raving about it. Very affordable good food and service! The table and seating set up is perfect for folks with disabilities. TIP! Avoid the two over crowded pricey places across the street and try Chez D's!.......... You won't be disappointed.

The food was so low quality it hardly passed as edible. I mean absolutely terrible. The soup seemed like it was out of a can and the jumbalaya was so over cooked my jaw hurt from chewing. The atmosphere inside passed for a low grade cafeteria. I would highly advise against going.

On Wednesday Night I had an incredible dinner in Frenchtown NJ. I was in the area for a farm day and wanted to get an early dinner before returning home to Northern NJ. I have a very high standard as I cook for a living myself. I had it in my mind to eat at a different place, remaining nameless, that wound up being closed. A conversation with a local woman, lead me to Chez Daniel. at 51 Bridge Street. Wow, such a gem and wonderful meal! It is BYOB, liquor store across the street, friendly staff- Reagen my waitress, I thiink and reasonably priced. Chef Daniel is a graduate of Johnson and Wales and this is his first restaurant. His family has a history in the culinary world.The atmosphere is simple but the food is outstanding. I started with a cold cucumber and melon soup on a 100 degree day. It was both refreshing and satisfying with both notes of savory, sweet and spice. My entree was a ... PORK CHOP NORMANDY Grilled 14oz Frenched bone-in pork chop, golden apples, apple brandy sauce, bacon lardons, sweet potato puree, & seasonal vegetables ... The dish was perfection, a beautifully cooked chop with the best sweet potato puree I have ever eaten. I basically cleaned my plate! The dessert I could not finish was the chocolate carrmel cake, rich dense cake with a carmel filling. I am so glad the other place was closed. I am a new fan of Frenchtown and have already posted a review on th South Jersey Food scene FB page. I will be back on my next visit. Thank you Chef Daniel for a wonderful meal to end my day! Chez Daniel is open for both Lunch and Dinner. My only negative would be they did not change the special board to reflect a different fish dish. Check it out if you are in the area.

Enjoyed an afternoon meal outside. The menu was varied enough to have several options for my husband who has a restrictive diet. The staff was helpful, friendly and efficient. Definitely worth a return visit.

Great Place. Really good food. Ample sizes. Great Pastries cooked in house. Gluten free, vegitarian options. Quiche to die for. Can't go wrong.

The food here is excellent. Try the goat cheese tart as an appetizer. The crab cake and short rib entrees are great. Mussels are served provincial or creole both are delicious. Service is always good.

Menu was varied, everything sounded delicious. Our server was friendly and attentive. I ordered a mushroom and goat cheese tart and French onion soup. My daughter had a cheese toasty on gf bread and fries. Superb! Portions were generous, left no room for dessert.

My husband and I stumbled upon Chez Daniel while exploring. I was hesitant to try the restaurant due to lack of reviews, however, we discovered that the lack of reviews was because the restaurant had only recently opened. We decided to give it a try and we have no regrets. The staff was very attentive and the food was phenomenal! We shared a beet salad and each had a soup. We each had the filet. The sauce was amazing! The carrot cake was also delicious! We will definitely visit again.

Short ribs exceptional. Fish and homemade potato chips, excellent. Had them twice. Soup could be a little more substantial. Great place, great waitstaff.

First time at Chez Daniel and will not be our last! Came for lunch since Frenchtown Cafe was busy. The food was outstanding! Asparagus tart special, the short rib grilled cheese and the halibut were all exceptional. Hope the restaurant gets the patronage it deserves! Try it , you will not be disappointed! We will be back soon!

Wonderful seasonal menu with a ton of delicious options (including so many that are gluten-free!) and a great staff. A downtown gem!

Me and my wife stopped here while visiting Frenchtown . I thought that to food was excellent and the atmosphere cozy! I highly recommend try it out , for lunch ! The staff are very nice , establishment is super clean !

Had a delicious *special* salad. Trusting my memory...beets, mandarin oranges, goat cheese on a bed of arugula. Dressing was I believe was honey balsamic. Outstanding.

Food was great, service was courteous and prompt, sat on the porch on a pleasant night. BYO. Reasonably priced. What's not to like?

We just had an absolutely delicious lunch here on a busy Sunday in town. Other places had lines of people waiting and we decided to give this a try The food was fresh and wonderful.!! We two had a delicious quiche, a crabcake sandwich, and really, really good iced tea!! We highly recommend this place and we will surely be back

Came back to Chez Daniel and found the food and service to thankfully be as great as it was when I last visited. I find many restaurants lack consistence when it comes to service and quality...not Chez Daniel! The food was absolutely perfect as was the service.. same as my last visit thankfully! Tried the creole mussels this time.. perfection! Not too spicy but enough to be a spice lovers dream. My husband had Caesar salad with chicken and said the dressing and chicken were delicious! Fresh lettuce! I went with the salmon again because it was so good last time! I'm coming back AGAIN this weekend, Chef Daniel! I found my new favorite place! I'll try something new and I'm sure it won't disappoint! Thanks for caring about quality food and thanks for your friendly and attentive staff! A real gem of a restaurant!
