On the Grid : Chez Elle Creperie & Coffeehouse

"Parisian Crepes in a historic movie theater?! Yes please. Chez Elle Creperie is open for breakfast and lunch and offers a ton of savory and sweet crepes and also an insanely good lobster bisque. Seriously, do not, NOT order the bisque. It’s fun to sit by the kitchen and watch the crepe making in action. The place is full of over the top Paris themed décor and the outside area is straight off the streets of a charming French neighborhood. It’s always packed, so come early or just wait it out and work up your appetite for an extra crepe." - Rachel Sleeter

We'll definitely be back! Our Crepes were delicious & looked amazing. Great atmosphere & lots to choose from on the menu. Fun place to check out!

If you haven't been here yet, you definitely should try it. The place was packed on a subzero morning, which is usually indicative of good food, but I was not prepared for the culinary masterpieces I ate that morning. The coffee tasted freshly roasted, the crepes were beautifully presented, and service was fast - though we were lucky to find a seat when we did. If we're ever in town for breakfast again, we will be back.

Google
Solid crepes, coffee and spiked coffee drinks as well! Nice pricing and a large selection of various treats. Service was quick and efficient, plenty of seating inside and out.

Google
This is the closest you get to Paris. Hands down! I fear if I shared my true feelings you wouldn't believe this place is real. It is a must visit in KC, I'd choose this over bbq if I could only pick one for the day. I had a savory (Pollo Verde) and a sweet (citron, lemon and strawberry) crepe. 5 stars for each.

Google
Excellent crepe place in downtown Kansas City! Right by Blue Bird Cafe. It has a charm of France and has everything themed Paris and Eiffel Tower. The crepe was expensive but still very delicious. I got the chorizo and egg creme, and it was really well good, light yet, rich and flavourful. My husband had a strawberry crepe, and his was a very classic style crepe. I would highly recommend this place. They have mimosas, so perfect for a girls brunch.

Google
Delicious food, nice decor, great service. Dined in with some buddies after an early morning seminar after being recommended by my brother. We each had the lobster bisque soup, and a crepe which were all amazing. Looking forward to dining again to try more!

Google
An adorable place in downtown. Food was fantastic and the service was wonderful! The decor was Paris themed and the restaurant was a perfect place for a breakfast date, friends brunch or a birthday outing.

Nice place to have some coffee and crepes. Great for gathering with friends.

Yelp
Love love coming here. Their crepes are delicious, the macaroons and drinks are great. The service is quick and just love the over all look of the restaurant. Been here numerous times and never disappoints.

Yelp
I really haven't reviewed this restaurant?!?! I've been coming here for years! Used to be our quick moms breakfast outing, then became a day date place, I even had one of my baby showers here (so superb btw check out that service) This is such a special place in KC for me that even if/when I move away, I would still come back for a visit. Delicious! I think I've tried all the crepes, which says a lot for a girl that used to meh the thought of crepes. My ultimate favorite one though has always been the Tropical. It's like a Coconut Cream pie met an Island Queen and had a baby. The coffee is good, not usually the best, but I like mine a tad hotter and stronger. If it's possible you haven't tried this place, you should. And if you have, I'll most likely see ya there someday. ;)

Yelp
Delicious food & coffee! Great service & great outdoor patio when it's warm outside. I highly recommend this cute little piece of Paris to everyone!

Yelp
Wonderful spot. Tons of seating and gorgeous patio. The crepes all looked fantastic and it was really hard to choose, but we ended up going with savory options. I ordered the 11. Legume and added bacon (spinach, crème fraiché, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms and tomatoes). My friend ordered the 23. Bonjour (bacon, Ham or Anduille sausage with scrambled eggs and a choice of cheddar or Swiss cheese). They were delicious. No condiments or sauces needed! My friend also ordered a cup of the French Onion soup and loved it! We each had a latte and thought they were decent. I wouldn't go just for coffee with great with other great shops in that neighborhood, but it was good. Additionally the staff were friendly and very attentive. They did at least 3 table touches.

Yelp
As a French speaker, I was so excited to try Chezelle with my husband! After a long day of being outside, our appetite was worked up for some crepes! Upon walking in we were greeted by how busy it was we were almost going to get discouraged but luckily our service was SO Fast. The vibe is pretty casual however if you were to go well dressed, that would be fine too! The menu is very expansive with over 25 options for crepes sweet and savory alike! I got the Galette, my Husband got the Bonjour and we shared a Patriote crepe and they were delicious! All of the crepes had amazing flavor, were hot and very filling! I also love a good latte and I opted for a Latte Miel and it was great! The honey flavor was forward but well balanced! I'm so very happy with my visit to Chezelle and would happily return! A la prochaine Chez Elle!

Yelp
Love that they have a GF crepe option and you can build your own. I made mine with ice cream, Nutella, strawberries and whipped cream. The strawberries were a little off for me but otherwise it was really tasty!! They didn't skimp on any of the ingredients and the portion was super filling

Yelp
Ok, unpopular opinion alert! I do not like crepes. HOWEVER, this place blew my mind! There were 30 options, many savory & every thing we ordered far surpassed expectations! The waitstaff was lovely & we liked the artwork they chose on the walls.

Yelp
Tie your bags tighter. I dropped my soup in the snow after picking up a to go order because the knot on the top was too loose.

Yelp
This is another one of those; "What the hell took me so long to visit" reviews. After driving by Chez Elle for years, I stopped in last Saturday afternoon and already can't wait for a return. The old Summit Theater has been refurbished into all things Parisian Cafe. My Fromage crepe - Brie, bacon, and pesto grilled inbetween the perfect buttery crepe with a dollop of creme fraiche to give the most satisfying savory sensation my taste buds have had recently. Complete coffee menu options, sweets, a variety of indoor and outside seating options, lots of art and French decorations and of course Edith Piaf on the speakers. Only one visit under my belt and Chez Elle is now on my my favorite "comfort food" return list. Lobster Bisque - get ready, because you and I have a date very soon.

Yelp
Hits the spot when you're craving crepes. They also sell lattes, teas, soups/salads. Quick service and a decent-sized patio out front.

Yelp
Great experience for something different. But there is no table service. And this was my first time eating Crepes and it wasn't my thing but I did appreciate the experience. Cute and trendy!
google avatar

Lauren A.

Yelp
I love this place. I am a huge fan of crepes and this spot does not disappoint. Service is good. You order at the front and they bring it to you. Not a lot of opportunity for continued service. So cute inside.
google avatar

Ben D.

Yelp
This is an order at the counter restaurant. I ordered a sweet crepe with French onion soup. The crepe was delicate and delicious. The soup not so much. Foodies know French onion soup is all about the onions. This soup did not contain onions so it was just French soup. Probably should take this one off the menu. The atmosphere is ok. Outside seating is available. Service is fast.
google avatar

Yelp
We came here for lunch before going to the Kauffman Center. It was a pretty day so we sat outside. We each got a cup of soup. I got the lobster bisque which is my favorite and hubby got the French onion soup. We split the Tour Eiffel crepe, smoked salmon. It was very good. We also shared the Citron crepe, lemon curd w/strawberries dessert crepe. This is a little piece of heaven. If you're near the downtown area and want to go somewhere different, try Chezelle.
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant is one of my favorite places to eat. You get to watch them make the crepes and they are always hot (except the fruit ones). The restaurant is clean, bathrooms are beautiful, fresh water. Service is quick and normally good. Your tables get cleaned quickly.
google avatar

Shawn T.

Yelp
The food was good, it's prepared and made fresh to order. It was very tasty! The food is light and not heavy so that's a plus! You walk in and place your order and pay then and there. They then give you a number you put on your table so they can find you when your orders are ready. There is indoor and outdoor seating when weather is nice. Indoor is a little small so it's great they offer both. Great lighting and lots of art work for a small place. They have catering!!! Bonus! For first time visits there is a 25% off coupon right here inside Yelp! Yes I took advantage of this fantastic offer!
google avatar

Jennie L.

Yelp
Such a cozy vibe, the crepes are really good and the London fog was on POINT. Also the crepes are huge and such a good price point. Can't wait to come back to try the other savory crepes!

Yelp
Chez Elle Creperie is tucked into a cozy downtown neighborhood that shines with character. The restaurant itself has an eclectic assortment of art and design that transports you away from downtown KC and helps set the stage to enjoy their phenomenal assortment of crepes. You place your order inside, but in late May, their front patio was beautiful with blossoming flowers and plenty of seating, so of course we went straight back out! We enjoyed a cappuccino with a bit of Baileys, #24 Monsieur-Spicy Chorizo and #5 Le Franco (with added ham). My #5 with caramelized spiced green apples, toasted walnuts, fig compote, Brie cheese and crème fraiche (plus ham) - was absolutely delicious. Rich, but not heavy. Sweet, but not like a dessert. Employees were prompt, a bit shy/quiet, and polite with their "bonjour!" greetings. My foodie friend was surprised that I had never been to Chez Elle before and insisted I visit as soon as possible -- I appreciate her insistence!!

Yelp
Just touched down in Kansas City, Missouri and needed some breakfast. I found this small French crepe shop and ordered the Patriote. When my plate came out I was stunned. I was honestly a little intimidated by how big the portion was but as soon as I took my first bite I knew I had to finish it all. The crepe was light and airy and not overly sugary which is common. The strawberries and bananas were fresh and paired well with sauce that topped the crepe. Chezelle is truly a gem, I hope my entire trip stays this sweet.

Yelp
Holy Cow! This place exceeded my expectations + they were already high because everything I've ever heard was phenomenal! From the outside, it is the cutest little place with bistro tables and chairs out front. I would love to come back in the warmer months to enjoy my meal out front + take in the vibe of it all! The inside was just as cozy and relaxing. I enjoyed the vibe of it all, it wasn't perfect + luxury - it was personal + made you feel at home! They had a HUGE selection of crepes. I couldn't decide which one I wanted for about 15 minutes..literally. I ended up choosing #24, a savory crepe option + I was NOT disappointed. It is now a personal bucket list goal of mine to try every single crepe from this gem of a place! YOU MUST COME HERE!

Yelp
This is my second time visit this cafe and realized that when to visit makes a lot difference in dining experience. The first time I went was on labor day weekend at noon. And there was already a long line waiting for order, the tables inside and outside were all taken. This place is a partly self-serving cafe, basically you go to the counter to order and pay, get a number, then find yourself a table. Water and tissue is also helping yourself style. The staff clean the table whenever they are available and bring your the ordered food. That busy day was a horrible experience because I waited for almost an hour for my London fog latte to be brought to my table and another 15min for the crepe and the soup I ordered. They were also running out of the dine in utensil so they provided the disposable utensils that day. I decided to give them a second chance because 1. I later found they provided 25% off check-in offer, 2. It doesn't make sense if the Google review is high and the service was that terrible that day. So this time I visited on Sunday morning before 11am as I read one comment mentioned get there early somewhere. And definitely it has a huge difference! Without the crowd and line, their service became normal although not outstanding, but at least the food and the environment became enjoyable. That check-in offer made the brunch so worth the price. Their crepes were generous in the stuffings, and onion soup were good. With no discount, I still recommend it. But visit only when there is no line or non-rush hours if you really want to sit down and enjoy the food with the Cafe.

Yelp
Whoa, the crepes here are HUGE! I definitely enjoyed my trip here for breakfast - a large menu with lots of choices that look like you can't go wrong. The place itself is cute on the outside, very bistro-like. I got the restaurant's namesake crepe, and my husband got the Philly cheesesteak crepe. Both were solidly good, but the Philly was a little dry and would have benefited from more sauce. My crepe was tender and chock full of delicious veggies, so I was quite happy! We also had lattes, which were just alright. The draw here is definitely the crepes, and there are many options that entice us to return!

Yelp
Love everything about this place- has plenty of indoor and cute outdoor seating- it's a great location (we love all the neighboring restaurants)! And the service is great- the staff of very friendly and efficient! I think I may have tired most of their savory crepes and probably the sweet ones also and like them all. Our house favorite and the #7 pollo verde. If I want to eat a sweet one as well, then i share the savory with someone - otherwise would be too heavy! Love their coffee, and lobster bisque soup as well! Definitely recommend trying if you never been there!

Marquetta B.

Yelp
The food is always great as usual. The service was fast and efficient. Great vibe for our Rich Aunty's gathering.

Yelp
If you're ever walking around Westside on the weekend, you will see tons of people sitting outside this place enjoying crepes! I finally gave it a try for Friday breakfast. When you walk in, there's an order counter to the left. The menu is on a giant chalk board on the wall next to the counter. You can order either by the number or name on the menu. They have so many options -- breakfast, savory, and sweet crepes! Once you order, you get a number and go find a table. There's a large room of tables off to the left and a couple other tables inside, as well as several tables outside. It was pretty busy on a Friday morning but my food came out really fast. I got a savory breakfast and a sweet crepe to try. The Bounjour crepe was a little too sweet with the candied bacon inside, and there wasn't enough spicy hollandaise to balance it. The Au Chocolate crepe was delicious and huge! Would be good for sharing. The crepes themselves were a little greasy but tasted good! On the weekends, street parking in the Westside can be tricky, but I've always been able to snag a spot on a side street. Enjoy a scenic stroll from your car to the restaurant!

John L.

Yelp
My GF had a craving for crepes so we found this place on yelp. I would say mostly a good experience. My complaint is about the crepe itself. I think it was called Parisian. First ingredient was smoked salmon. The first ingredient should have been cream. The filling was just swimming. And never did find very much salmon. GF went sweet and liked hers. Maybe next time we'll be able to sit outside and enjoy that. I'll go back but I think I will be asking more questions about preparation.
google avatar

Yelp
I had an hour to waste and I was HUNGRY. I saw the 25% discount for your 1st crepe through Yelp as I walked by this restaurant so I decided to give it go. I ordered the Le Jardin crepe and a lavender oat milk latte. The wait staff was so kind and gave recommendations and adjusted to my vegetarian diet. Only issue was the food itself. It was kind of bland; I had to add tabasco to eat it and even then it was just simply "meh". I wish there was more flavor in the veggies. As for the latte, it was good! I was definitely one of the better lavender lattes I've had before. In terms of ambiance, it's cute! It's all Paris/France themed from the paintings to the decor. It's a little loud side so I wouldn't recommend coming here for studying/working but it's great for hanging out with your friends or going on a little brunch date. Overall, I wasn't super happy with my experience but I wouldn't say I don't want to come back. In fact, if I do come back, I want to check out the sweet crepes because they look very appealing (at least when I look at my neighbor's sweet crepe haha).
google avatar

Madison L.

Yelp
I've been here multiple times and the crepes and coffee never disappoint!! I highly recommend trying the strawberry syrup in a latte. The breakfast crepes (the Monsieur and bonjour) were delicious and filling. The sweet crepes (tropicale, and patriote) were just as delicious! The tropicale was my favorite of the two because of the amazing coconut cream filling. The outdoor seating is a good size and the perfect spot to enjoy some crepes with coffee!
google avatar

Lexi G.

Yelp
Crepes were amazing! They have so many different choices of crepes both sweet and salty and the atmosphere was really calming.
google avatar

Lee C.

Yelp
The atmosphere at Chez Elle is lovely. It is a quaint little restaurant tucked away in the Westside neighborhood. The food varies from savory to sweet and is so indulgent. I typically stick to a handful of breakfast crepes, but there are so many options for just about any mood! The staff at Chez Elle are super friendly too. From the counter-style ordering service to the people delivering food and making sure everything looks great, they do a great job! The seating is fairly limited during busy hours, but I rarely have to wait for a seat, and I am seated shortly after ordering. It's a great place for a French-style outdoor patio, too. If the weather is good, I recommend eating outside. Being in such a quiet neighborhood with lots of foot traffic (and so close to the city), it's perfect for it!
google avatar

Faith B.

Yelp
I wanted to love Chez Elle. They have a huge selection savory and sweet crepes and have been around and well thought of for a lone time. The atmosphere is cute and French inspired while not being too kitschy. The food comes out fast. The counter service was friendly, but a little off that day I visited. They had a drink special that no one seemed to know how to ring up. My kir royale was excellent. My lobster bisque was really good with lots of large, fresh pieces of lobster. My Petite Maison crepe was just average. The mushrooms tasted liked they were canned. BF liked his Citron crepe, but felt that the strawberries overtook the lemon curd on it. I liked Chez Elle, but I left feeling a bit dissatisfied and still craving good crepes.
google avatar

Alyssa A.

Yelp
SO GOOD! I visited for the first time with my friend and we both got the Paris nutella and banana crepe. I also got an iced chai, which was so good. The employees were so kind and the service was great!
google avatar

Frances A.

Yelp
Cute interior, fast service, but the food was not good. I ordered the Patriota and the dough was almost raw with very little flavor. My cafe au lait was 90% milk. I had high hopes given the reviews, but I was disappointed.
google avatar

Meg K.

Yelp
My good friends hosted my baby sprinkle brunch here. I was so excited to try it as the menu looked as good as the venue ambiance! We sat outside and tried to open two umbrellas - the first was completely broken and the second took forever to open up, no help from waitstaff walking by. The service is poor. There is no customer service or smiling for that matter. When the waitresses brought out our crepes, they had mixed up tables and told us we should be holding up our table numbers (our table didn't have a stand for them.) The crepe was good and the lobster bisque was INCREDIBLE, but not enough to compete with such subpar customer service. For that, I'll stick with Seven Swans creperie.
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Hands down- the BEST SPOT IN KC! I have always had a great experience at this restaurant! The food was delicious, so many choices from sweet to savory and the service was excellent. The restaurant ambience is a Paris style experience! Absolutely a family favorite! Loyal customer! Bonus: plenty of local shops nearby with the best view of KC!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is always a stop for brunch when I visit from out of town. I can't get enough of the chocolate raspberry mousse desert. It's so delicious. The best crepe place I have ever found in Kansas City. I haven't found anything that isn't good on the menu and there is a pretty good variety of dishes, be sure to get there early because the place gets difficult to find a table as it is always busy. They have delicious vegetarian options as well.

Nik M.

Yelp
Best crepe in town the place is very inviting feel like someone house very Cousy, reminds me of this little place we use to go to in London.

Ashlyn J.

Yelp
2nd time here! And still loved the crepes lol. So did my friend who came with me! AND the young gals working that day helped me set my friend up with a cute guy who was eating there!

Pam Q.

Yelp
Met up with great friends here for lunch before we hit the road. It had been a long time since we had been able to dine here, and the food was better than ever. I had the "Acropolis" which perfectly combines Greek flavors in a crepe. My honey had the "Bon Jour!" crepe since bacon and eggs are a favorite. The thick slices of bacon were the star in this crepe for sure. Finished the meal with dessert (of course). "Au Chocolat" is the best way to have a dessert, right? Well, it's a delicious crepe as well, and made the perfect end to a fabulous meal for us.

Gary M.

Yelp
Great food & selection. Fast & friendly service. Manager even left the fire pit on outside after closing so we could chat!!! Super nice!!
google avatar

DJuan L.

Yelp
I didn't think I liked crepes until l visited Chez Elle. There are a few go-to restaurants in different cities that I visit and this is definitely one of them in KC. The Tower Eifel is my favorite of them all. They have a ton of options from sweet to savory, so you're bound to find something you like. They also have baked goods and specialty drinks. Whether you like crepes or never had them, this is the place to get them.

Katherine K.

Yelp
Ugh love love LOVE this place. We went for Mother's Day and it was perfect. The sweet and savory crepes are both delightful and actually quite filling which I was not expecting. The coffee is also very good and they have a lot of options. I recommend sitting outside on the patio on a nice morning! It felt like I was on vacation. Just perfect!
google avatar

Stacie Y.

Yelp
Usually whenever someone asks if there is a good crepe place in KC I always tell them to try Chez Elle! It's delicious and they have both dessert and savory crepe options. I had their seasonal pumpkin crepe which uses a pumpkin batter then filled with spiced apples. The ice cream is extra cost as a side but paired well with the crepe. The apples could have been cooked a bit longer but overall still a good dessert. There is only street parking. Indoor dining and outdoor options are available.

Melinda S.

Yelp
The Lobster Bisque is advertised as the best in KC. It was nice, but the best? The outside is very cute, but inside it looks a bit run down and sad. It was chilly inside and we kept our coats on. My Chazelle crepe was rubbery, the filling scant and under seasoned, and the dish overpowered by the tomato sauce ladled on top. My husband's Philly cheesesteak crepe promised, yet under delivered the Hollandaise sauce on top. The crepe was less rubbery and the filling a bit more composed. Our Diet Cokes were cans. I'm not quite sure what this place is. Coffee shop that sells crepes, also? It is not what I expect from a true creperie. Our experience was underwhelming and unpleasant. In the time we spent there, there were 5 other people. It is not a place we would take family, friends, or out of town guests.

Johniann V.

Yelp
I've always enjoyed this place. The lobster Bisque is amazing. Went for breakfast ordered 2 breakfast crepes 2 cappuccinos bill $38. The cappuccinos were luke warm. I could only eat about a third of my crepe, the more I ate the worse it got...just bland and disappointing. My husband ate his but said it was meh... don't get me wrong,I still would come back but I'd avoid the breakfast crepes. A very disappointing expensive breakfast. On a side note to the owner, please replace that toilet seat in women's restroom that thing is gross and embarrassing.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Chez Elle offers a large variety of crepes from savory to sweet. They also have endless drink options. I love that they even have gluten free options so that those who need it can still enjoy their heavenly crepes. The have to go and dine in options available as well as outdoor seating. Social distancing, sanitizer, limited capacity, masks and gloves were all consistent. The crepes were made fresh, carefully served in record time. We didn't have any issues from cross contamination and will definitely be back for more gluten free crepes.
google avatar

Rachel R.

Yelp
I've been waiting for over a year to try Chez Elle Creperie! My mother and my sister have been multiple times and have talked about how good the crepes are. I arrived just after 10am on a Fridayy morning and met family for this momentous event!! Lol. We ordered a variety of crepes and I sipped a half sweet pumpkin spice latte. The bonjour savory breakfast crepe (Swiss, maple bacon, scrambled eggs, and Hollandaise) was perfect. The flavors were delicious and I wish I had the entire crepe to myself. But alas -- sharing. The Paris crepe (Nutella and banana) was also delicious. You really can't go wrong with chocolate and banana. Parking is Street parking or if you're lucky, a small lot behind the shops. You order at the counter and they deliver the food to your table. For four crepes and a coffee it was just under $50. I'm glad I had the chance to stop in!

Yelp
Ohh this place was so cute! I got the tropicale which has coconuts creme, mango, kiwi, and I added some blueberries. It was just the right amount of sweetness. It would be a really cute date spot after dinner or you can have savory crepe for dinner and then a sweet one for dessert

K W.

Yelp
Visited Chez Elle for the 1st time on Saturday. The line was long, but moved quickly and we were even able to snag a table. The lobster bisque was fantastic and then I had the tropical crepes for dessert- again delicious! The dirty chai is a great less sweet chai and I loved it! Will definitely go back!
