Such a fun find! I found this window by accident and ordered a falafel pita and it was by far the best one I’ve had in a while! They were fast, but that did not affect quality and there’s a cute little sitting park around the corner to eat it. I would eat here ALL the time if I lived close it was so easy and affordable.

Google
Very grateful the owner made it possible to seat me (a solo traveler) during their busy lunch period. The food was phenomenal.. possibly the best falafel and pita I’ve had (if you can’t get a seat, definitely get takeaway at the separate window). But my server, Lisa, really made the whole experience. She was personable, kind, open, and she really went above and beyond to make my experience great. Thank you all!

Google
Popped in for a drink outside in the sunshine. Staff were absent & distracted & it was an effort to get someone's attention to order. When we were finally served our waitress was preoccupied & unfriendly. We ordered a carafe of the house white wine & water. The glasses were filthy & the wine was unpleasant. I wouldn't return & wouldn't recommend this place.

Google
Very friendly service, very touristy location, very mediocre and overpriced falafel!

My experience wasn't as pleasent as I believe the restaurant could give it. The restaurant manager ran fast and quite in a hurry to take our orders and I don't believe this is because it was busy, but rather because we were foreigners. He felt quite stressed and was worried that we wouldn't pay. He also couldn't speak English which I would say is important to learn whilst you're in a quite touristic city. The food was beyond terrible. It might've been for the reasons I've stated before, but it was no effort. It was quite a normal price for a restaurant. I asked myself a pizza but rather got an oval shape pizza with a whlle bucket of Gorgonzola cheese on it and I'm not exaggerating. It was so much cheese you could choke on it easily. This is unfortunate because the restaurant felt like it had a lot to offer, the restaurant itself looks fantastic. I feel like the experience would've been better if I was born a generator before. Generally don't recommend, but might've been because of wrong place and time.

Google
I was looking for a restaurant offering vegan options for my daughter in law while offering traditional food and came across this restaurant while walking in the Marais. This is one of the most charming places I’ve seen in Paris. They serve traditional Israeli dishes with vegan options so it was perfect. The food was great and i highly recommend the terrasse but be prepared to wait in line as it is a busy place.

Google
The best pastrami sandwich in the world. I can’t believe I’m saying it, but it’s even better than New York City. The pastrami has a robust, unique flavor and of the highest quality. The restaurant is alive With happy people and a terrific staff like Golda & Catherine. The schwarma & hummus were excellent too. I Would give it six stars if I could come on I find it strange that anybody who would eat here would give it anything lower than a five star review. What an incredible find in La Marias.

Google
A very average falafel wrap served in an authentic feeling restaurant. The food is nothing special at all. Quite dry and lacking in flavour despite how it looks! The restaurant is nice inside with good seating and also a large outdoor seating area. Wouldn’t go back though

Yelp
Marianne is an excellent place for falafels and much more. Their menu offers a wide variety of Mediterranean dishes. Their food hit the spot for something tasty and quick. Save some room for dessert!

Yelp
Super unique concept. They have regular plates but you can also order a tasting platter to be shared amongst just yourself, two people, or (I think) up to 4. You choose a certain amount of dishes, depending on the size of your platter, from a list of traditional Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food items. Loved being able to personalize my dish. We tried a bunch of things and some were better than others (e.g. the falafel was good, the hummus was mediocre). One thing I wish they had done better was heat up the food. I know they're making big batches of foods and serving them when ordered but almost everybody at the table had cold or lukewarm food. That's the main issue I had with this restaurant; would have been much more enjoyable otherwise.

Yelp
Fantastic food and service for a fair price. Everyone is kind and fast and you leave feeling comfortably full-not overly stuffed. Highly recommended!

Yelp
A little surprised this place has a 3/5 at the time of my writing. I got a pastrami sandwich to go and it was delicious! The ambiance cute, I wanted to come back and have a long evening there but ran out of time. The chef who sold me the sandwich was also friendly and understood that I only wanted meat cheese and bread, as my French is AWFUL I didn't even try. Second best Pastrami sandwich in my life, the only one better was maybe from Hot Johnnie's in San Francisco.

Yelp
Friendly staff, generous portions, and a great atmosphere with good food. A lot of locals come here eating in and getting takeout. House wine was even incredible! Highly recommend

Kelly P.

Yelp
I've been here several times and the falafel is always good. The service this visit was really friendly and the lemonade is a must. It can be chaotic but there seems to be a system.

Dan C.

Yelp
Decent tasty lunch unfortunately tempered by waitstaff demanding a tip. Unheard of in our 4 decades of visiting Paris. Would not recommend, other options available.
google avatar

Mina G.

Yelp
One of my least favorite meals in Paris. Their meat platter was lacking..it looked and tasted like 8 euro meal but 25 euros instead. The waiter was also very unfriendly. Would not come back here.

Yelp
I'd been coming to Chez Marianne for 30 years. Used to be the secret. While crowds lined up for falafel at L'As du Falafel, Chez Marianne was the real deal. Brought my son to Paris for the first time, and sharing a Chez Marianne falafel with him was going to be a highlight. The usual falafel window was no longer there and you could sort of tell that it had changed. When I got my falafel "ticket," I said to the cashier, "he'll make them fresh, yes." She said of course. Noticing a pile of falafel balls that had been sitting there, I said to the man making the falafel, "can you please make some fresh ones?" He gave me the French equivalent of "yeah, yeah, yeah" and proceeded to assemble a sloppy, washed out falafel with falafel balls that tasted like sawdust, save for the embarrassment of tahini slopped all over it. Pukeworthy stuff. R.I.P. Chez Marianne. You were the best there ever was.

Yelp
Chez Marianne is an utter and undeniable delight. With a Mediterranean vibe and a relaxed, familial atmosphere, this Marais stronghold has earned one of the top spots in my Parisian restaurant ranking. Upon each visit the meal surpassed my expectations, with palpably fresh ingredients that tasted as if they may have been plucked from the earth that morning. My favorite item is La Shouk Shouk, a colorful entrée as beautiful as it is scrumptious. Hearty falafels are contrasted by wonderfully creamy hummus and pillowy pita, all rounded out with a smattering of fresh chopped vegetables and a lovely aubergine confite. If you still have room in your belly by the end of the evening, don't miss out on dessert. I just adored the rich chocolate cake, with a gorgeous spiral pattern and an undertone of rum. For impeccable service and a fantastically comforting meal, Chez Marianne is a Parisian gem!

Yelp
There was a line and short wait (no longer than 15 minutes) for a table though the line started to pile up more after I had arrived at around 7:30pm. Service was a bit unorganized and they had messed up my order as well but the food was good. I ordered their 3 éléments au choix with some pita bread and the portions were quite generous so unless you are extremely hungry, I would order no more. Their eggplant in particular I found to be exceptionally good. The atmosphere and ambience of the Marais was very nice but the unorganized service did put a damper on things. I am American but was with a friend who spoke French and didn't run into any of the issues outlined by the other reviews here.
google avatar

Dave D.

Yelp
This is a bit of a tourist trap. My kids went here for some sweet treats, although for the falafel sandwich, I would go a bit further down the road to Falafel King.
google avatar

Frank V.

Yelp
I don't know about this place. Nice seating on a square post Covid but just too many issues. Service is non existent and when entering the place to fetch our drinks you are accosted by the management. Food? This is Paris. Go elsewhere
google avatar

Laurie E.

Yelp
I'm awarding 1 star simply for their poor attitude and rudeness!! The food is good. It's great flavor and portions are generous. However, we've been here twice on our trip and both times have made been ridiculed and made fun of! We are American and don't speak French very well. Both the manger and the servers are complete assholes!! Walk around to the other side of the street and eat there! Save yourself the hard time!! Funny enough....they hate Americans but live our $$$$
google avatar

Moe B.

Yelp
Utter garbage. How did I find such a place in Paris where I feel entitled to only wonderful eating experiences? Was recommended by Rick Steeves guidebook. Last time I take that guy's advice. Ten glops of slop plopped onto the plate. Uh oh I said when it arrived..WTF? Tasted even worse that it looked. It's now 4:30 the afternoon and I'm under the covers in my hotel room listening to my stomach loudly complain. No wonder they call this restaurant "la mauvaise blague du marais"
google avatar

Jason A.

Yelp
Classy Marais At Its Best! They do a falafel sandwich here that is what dreams are made of and the lines are there to prove it. 5.50E gets you a rather amazing array of salads, sauces, and freshly fried falafel. Crispy on the outside, green and garlicky inside without being dry. The option of cramming the top with as many kosher pickles and peppers as you can is also a huge plus! While there are many options around Marais and rue de Rossiers, this is a classic one and has the clientele to boot! Great service, beautiful atmosphere, and reasonably priced food. One of the best falafels I've had!
google avatar

Esther T.

Yelp
Good option if you'd like a lunch that's more of a sampler. Ours had 10 items that came in decent sized portions. We were more than full and weren't able to finish off our plate. Only complaint were the bees that were lured in by the non covered desserts sold in the same establishment.
google avatar

Perri G.

Yelp
The only reason we even ended up at this horrendous restaurant was because our falafel spot around the corner was closed on Fridays & Saturdays. We were sketched out by the look of the menu, but because the restaurant was so packed we thought maybe it was some sort of delicious hole in the wall restaurant? WRONG! I have had middle eastern cuisine from all over.. Israeli, Greek, Lebanese, Iraqi.. etc..etc.. NEVER, EVER have I had food this bad. You'd literally be better off at a street cart than sitting at this restaurant. Falafel was completely dry, rock hard exterior like it has been fried 5x over. Taboulli.. no flavor whatsoever. HUMMUS, never have I had worse. It tasted as though it was made with only tahini, no salt, no lemon nothing else. Sad excuse for babaganoush or whatever it was was just eggplant mush with NO SEASONING. NO FLAVOR. NOTHING... we ordered extra "garlic" bread, completely dry, chewy.. my boyfriend saw them pop it into the microwave. Last but not least, we ordered mushrooms in tomato sauce. NO JOKE the tomato sauce tasted like it was fermented.. completely disgusting and bubbling in our mouths. We could not run out of this restaurant fast enough literally. The lowest part of our Paris trip, we were so disgusted that we wasted money at this restaurant that was PACKED!? If this is the level of excellence held in Paris I need to open a restaurant and make tons off of scamming tourists. You'd be better off at McDonalds.. no joke.

Jessica V.

Yelp
Rude. Rude. Rude. We were initially turned away for no reason. There were open tables. They sat us and told us we must order food not just coffee etc. we agreed as we intended to eat. The server became downright enraged we did not speak French. Sorry, I speak many languages, French wasn't one of them. Never occurred to me that I could be disrespected like that in an establishment I was spending my money in. Anyways, we ordered food as we demanded to, and guess what... the food we wanted was unavailable!! So we ordered our drinks and baklava as we didn't feel like trying to figure out what they would serve us. The server who took over because he spoke English made a scene in French complaining to the original server about us. I couldn't leave quick enough. Lastly, the baklava was possibly the worst I've ever had. The WORST!!! If I could give this place a -5 stars I would.
google avatar

Jane G.

Yelp
I personally had a good experience, in the sense that they brought us extra food for absolutely no reason, so we left with a light bill and very full stomachs. Otherwise, very inefficient service, half of the stuff on the menu is unavailable, they somehow charge extra for mediocre pita bread, and while the 2 person mezze menu is very reasonable in terms of price and quantity, the quality of the food is okay. If you go with low expectations, you won't be disappointed, but if anyone tells you this is OMG THE BEST FALAFEL IN PARIS, laugh in their face and never listen to them when it comes to food. Ever again. There was really nothing bad in terms of the food. It was completely okay. But just 'okay' you know. I really can't say it was 'good.' Service was glacially slow, despite the heroic efforts of the ONE server who seemed to be doing all the work, including taking orders and bussing the food. There were two other servers who were standing around giggling and whenever I asked them for anything, I told me to ask "that other guy." I mean, they did accommodate a big group including two small kids by putting some tables together which meant that they lost a couple of seating spaces for us, so I must say they were nice, at least to us. Ok, I'm actually going to add back a star, but only bc of the heroic server who also randomly gave our table an extra mezze platter. Honestly a 2-star place.

Joe G.

Yelp
I think most people come here for the takeout falafel but the sit down is good too. The service is friendlier than most.

Maxine T.

Yelp
Terrible, the service is garbage. They have been so unbelievably rude every time. Years ago the place was decent, now it's just awful. I will never come there again, don't fool yourself. The food was disgusting, we also got something that we didn't ask for. We all felt sick afterwards. It's really the worst place I've been in a long time, they treated us like trash and in return we got food that made us sick all day long. 1 star is even too much for this place.

Wave L.

Yelp
Dont get trapped in Chez Marianne, Tourist!!! Strange place with rude host, slow service. The server managed to mess up our simple order. Also, beware - they charge extra 1.50Euro for a piece of pita bread. Total rip off in my eyes. :))). The food is not so good either. Not worth the price nor the trouble. Spend your vacation somewhere else. Enjoy Paris!
google avatar

Kristjan O.

Yelp
From the street this restaurant seems cozy and nice, which it is! But the service my girlfriend and I got, was a disaster! Our host was impatient, unpolite and seemed to be in a very bad mood. He interrupted us - probably cause of our tourist-questions and lack of knowledge to the middle eastern cuisine. We will definetly not come back to Chez Marianne. The food was okay - nothing special. Instead we would like to recommend the nearby L'As du Falaffel. Fantastic food!
google avatar

Matthew J.

Yelp
Must get the mez plate with 10 choices the kefta to die for the hummus creamy and delicious. Can't go wrong and well priced ,, service fast but the servers rude.
google avatar

Jewel C.

Yelp
A Marais institution known for its yummy fried eggplant sandwich - a lunchtime must when in Paris.
google avatar

Bacchus P.

Yelp
Nice food and afordable prices. You can compose a dish with all the different elements you desire. A mix in between Turquish and Libanese influences. I highly recommend to book before. Enjoy!

Maria L.

Yelp
This is definitely one of my favorite falafel places in Paris. I think the biggest thing that keeps me coming back is the delicious eggplant they include in their falafels. If you're sensitive to oily or greasy foods then you might not be a huge fan; their eggplant is definitely greasy but oh so yummy. The biggest tip I can give anyone about going to Chez Marianne for falafels is that you have to go inside to pay and then you use your receipt outside to redeem your falafel. All too often, I see people stand in line (it may not be as popular as L'As du Falafel but it still attracts a small crowd) only to find out when they get to the front that they need to go inside to pay and then stand in line again. Pay inside first then redeem your falafel! When I go again next time, I think I'll ask them to take it easy on the purple cabbage. There was so much in my falafel that the bottom piece got soggy from cabbage water/sauce? At least I was already full by the time I got to the bottom piece of the pita. I love that Chez Marianne has the delicious eggplant but do keep in mind that they're not as generous with the amount of falafel balls that you'll get as some other places are (L'As du Falafel gives about double), however, it's the eggplant in the falafel sandwich that really keeps me going there. Regular falafels are 5,50 euros while falafels with kefta (ground beef) are 7 euros. I've tried both and liked them both (they're the same thing, one just has ground beef added).
google avatar

Thomas Benedict H.

Yelp
There's often a long line to eat the take away falafel they are making at this place. Why, I don't really know. It's mediocre. The sauce is almost without taste. Remember to add some of the spicy red harissa to boost the taste. The falafel is ok. Not bad, but not very good either. The actual chick pea falafel and the red onion salad in the pita are the best parts. But it could have been much better... If you want to eat here, try the restaurant menu. That's much better than the take away stuff.
google avatar

Ruslan S.

Yelp
The worst experience in Paris. Half of entries were uneatable. Staff just looks through you like you do not exist. Unless you want to be hungry and humiliated - just stay away!
google avatar

Sarah Beth B.

Yelp
This is delicious and fairly traditional Israeli food. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but it seemed about right for the marais and is a nice sit down restaurant among the many falafel stands. It was very cold out on the day we visited, so we were very happy to take our time and savor the cozy restaurant with lots of food and a little lunchtime wine. We ordered the sampler for two, which arrived JAM PACKED with incredible little dishes-- falafel, kefte, hummus, baba ganoush, tuna, a delicious pink fish dip, some kind of fried meat pie, and a few other items-- and a side of a few types of bread. The two of us worked as hard as we could but did not even come close to finishing the enormous platter. The waitress didn't speak English at all, but I did just fine with my high school french-- she was patient and we managed to order just fine. It was really good, and I think it would be even more fun with a larger group. Pro-tip: Let the waitress select the items on your platter, especially if you don't speak french! we just trusted her to make choices, and were totally pleased.
google avatar

Muppet C.

Yelp
L'As de Falafel is good, and it may be some people's style. Me I prefer Chez Marianne for my falafel goodness. The other dishes on the menu are not as great, but the falafel sandwich still takes the 'Marais Bargain' with 5 euros for a really great pita (the bread really does help) stuffed with oily eggplant, beets, sauce, etc. Definitely delicious. For extra credit, eat it in the Place Des Vosges one of the most beautiful squares in Paris. Seriously, don't worry about the rest of the menu--get a falafel.
google avatar

Nancy O.

Yelp
I waited 2 years to try Falafel because I wanted this to be the 1st place I had it. You see, in 2011, my non-French speaking self stood in line for about 30 minutes for their falafel sandwich, only to find out at the last minute that I was supposed to pay inside 1st. I was devastated. Everyone around me was walking around with this amazing sandwich I'd never seen before - I mean EVERYONE. But, I wasn't going to pay and wait again so I promised the next time I was in Paris I'd do it the right way. 2 years later I'm back, no line, and have my French speaking husband order me their delicious looking Falafel. Well Worth the Wait!!! It's so fresh, flavorful and distinct that you must come here and try it! I've tried since but have not found anything that compares. You'd think I want to return to Paris for French Cuisine, but no. I want to return for their Falafel!
google avatar

Susanne U.

Yelp
Okay, let's try something new, let's go for some israelian food! After noticing that you can get really bad falafel at King Falafel and that famous L'as du Falafel is a hectic and tourist-crowdet place, we stood in front of the jewish restaurant Chez Marianne hungryly at half past noon. Since this was also recommendet by my tourists guide wen sat down on the nice terrace in a quiet side road next to busy Rue des Rosiers. More Guests were coming in about 1 pm but it stayed peacefully and calm. The most famous delicicy seem to be mixed plates available in different sizes. Like always, we had more appetite than hunger so we ordered a big plate for two for 19EUR with 10 different dishes by choice. the waiter wasn't really an ideal of good mood and friendlieness but he paitently waitet for me to translate the french menu to my companion (some dishes like tarama and hoummus were international anyway) and also understood my badly pronounced order. Choosing 10 different dishes is kind of difficult anyway. What it looked like in the end you can tell from the picture above. Not really aesthetic, but what would you want to make out of dips and mashed stuff? The fennel tomatoe salad in the front was very unusual with a lemon kind of flavour, I liked it a lot, for my comanion it was way too exotic, falafel and meatball were spiced very well, zaziki and bulgur could have been spicier the goat-milk feta tasted a bit stronger tha usual feta but the hoummus was the best
google avatar

Boris S.

Yelp
Do not even think of getting inside. Just get your falafel from window and move no with your life. Falafel - 5 stars Service - 2 stars Seating 2 stars. AVG = 3. So for take out - it is 5 stars :).
google avatar

Shuping C.

Yelp
If you are hungry when touring the Jewish quarter, you'd be way better off buying a flaffel to go from another restaurant near by instead of eating here. The service was bad - our waitress was impatient & told us we couldn't order the 6-item plate bcoz it's for one person and we needed to buy the 10-item plate for 2. This is fine but the food came out mushy on a plate & didn't taste that great at all. I would take my 50 euros elsewhere next time. I had an awesome flaffel to go for 8.5 euros from a place a couple of doors down a few days before. Not recommending this restaurant.
google avatar

Eowyn K.

Yelp
An Middle Eastern-Jewish restaurant on the Jewish quarter with great falafel. There are different sections, including sit down and take out. We ate inside at the far end. We had some difficulty figuring out what to order as the waitress did not speak English nor was there English on the menu. (This was our difficulty, not the restaurant's responsibility. If you are traveling to a foreign county you can not expect that they should cater to your language needs). You can order platters and pay by the amount of items you pick from on the lower half of the menu. We ordered platters with five items each. Falafel and hummus luckily was easy to recognize on the menu, and for the most part, we got lucky with the other items we guessed about. One was pastry-like fried triangle with meat inside and was amazing. The only thing on the plate I did not like was eggplant dish (but then I generally do not like eggplant) but my cousin enjoyed it. The falafel and hummus were the best I have had outside of Israel. The platter had a good size portion, more than we could finish.

Yelp
This is the third restaurant i've tried along the rue de roisier and i have to say that it can be better. Given the number of tourists in this area, it's not a surprise that the the place is understaffed, crowded, and EXPENSIVE. We got the plat composee that's 30EUR for two people and you get to choose 10 types of Mezze and a medium plat for 1, and you choose 5. As well as onion bread and extra pitas. For five people, we were stuffed. The 10 types of mezze was a lie though, as the plate doesnt even fit more than 6. The food is tasty, but nothing amazing. The falafels were overcooked and dried and shriveled. The aubergie sauce was the best, so was the tiziki. The hummous was not good. I do like the abundance of alcohol covering the restaurant and the variety. Good place to be for a group.
google avatar

Alex N.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing. Best hoummus ever. Even after you've eaten you will still want to eat more! Will return.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Definitely part of the tourist circuit, but we didn't mind since the food was good and moderately priced. We shared a platter for two (24 Euros) which was easily enough food for three (even non-vegetarians like us will get their fill). Overall the ambience was nice, the waitstaff friendly, and the food a welcome break from some of the heavier traditional Parisian fare. We arrived at 9:30pm with no res and had no trouble getting a table for two outside. If you can't get a table, consider take-out. Grab a bottle of wine and walk 10 minutes to the Seine for a lovely picnic.
google avatar

Diego F.

Yelp
A little bit pricey but that doesn´t come unexpected in Le Marais, one of the trendiest areas of Paris at the moment. The falafel and the hoummous are really good. My favorite element were the fried eggplants with a little spicy tomato sauce. Simply delicious!
google avatar

Jessi B.

Yelp
I have eaten inside the restaurant once, but it wasn't memorable. I will travel across town to take a falafel sandwich to-go from the window counter. You may not believe me based on the high reviews of the other crappy falafel places on Rue de Rosiers, but I don't believe them either.

Ax E.

Yelp
Delicious food, friendly people and a good price. If you don't mind small tables and the smell of food you definately should go there.
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Here are the facts. It takes forever to get a table, especially during the lunch rush. The service staff is brusque and impatient. The food portions are huge and high quality. Amazing falafel, feta cheese, olives, fish and salads. Great selection of wines, all on display so you can pick them out. You will stuff yourself silly here. It will take much longer than you expect and you will need time to digest, so don't make any plans for immediately after your visit. It's great!

Mermodfreres F.

Yelp
The food looks and smells amazing but the service is abysmal. There were two other groups in front of us waiting to be seated but no one would seat any of us. There was a middle eastern waiter who sailed by all three groups, cigarette in hand, and he left for a smoke. We noticed that *all* of the outdoor seats were unoccupied.
google avatar

Efrain S.

Yelp
This place is delicious but the attention of the waiter wasn't the best, bad attitude towards those who doesn't speak their language perfectly. We all ordered tasting plates, I think that's the best way to go.
google avatar

Theo M.

Yelp
Don't know why this place is getting mediocre reviews...in my opinion, it's the best falafel and mediterranean place on the whole block (rue des rosiers). Came here three different times, two for falafel to go and one for a sit down dinner. Sit down dinner was unreal and cheap. Ask the waiter for help on deciding and you will get an amazing plate of healthy, reasonably priced food.
google avatar

Candice A.

Yelp
The food was good but nothing to rave about. We had the mixed plate for 2 and it arrived about 60 seconds after we ordered. Quite opposite to what you experience in most of Paris but made us feel rushed. My French is mediocre but I always give it a try, but pretty sure the guy at the front made fun of how I asked for a table.
google avatar

J T.

Yelp
I don't know, I wish I'd just gotten the walk-up Fallafel (7.5 Euro) so it was easier to compare to the other Fallafel "joints" all within 30 meters of one another in this part of the Marais. But as it was, we ate inside and ordered from the menu. I'm sure I don't understand this type of cuisine well, but I'm not raving about my meal and I felt like 3 small plates and 3 glasses of wine for 50 Euro was a bit much. Plus I was surprised it didn't come with pita bread instead of rye?
