Chiang Mai Gate Market

I visited this market way more times than I’d care to admit. Not massive but has a decent selection of foods from noodles to skewers to buns/gyoza. But imo by far the best part is all the fruit vendors and smoothies. Some vendors charge a lot more so definitely walk around! I had a mango sticky rice daily

Typical street food market with variety of offers and all of them with good quality at a very low cost. They have some table split/organisation that works very well. We have been there only once but it was our plan to go there every night due to the diversity of offers and price. The market is located in an excellent place with beautiful surroundings.

Where have I been all these times!!!! I stayed at nearly hotel and ask hotel staff where Chiang Mai people go for breakfast. She recommended this market. This is where the local eats. So you should too. So many variety of local and central Thai dishes. The amount of dessert available for breakfast is a bit alarming, in a good way. Come and enjoy, can't go wrong

The market is always wonderful. We enjoyed shopping, a massage, some sausages, and lots of rain. It was worth braving the bad weather. Bathrooms are 5baht.

Incredible eats, fun night vibe, tons of food vendors, everything is negotiable and you're never left wanting or feeling buyers remorse. Super cheap/afford eats, just no where to sit unless you buy from specific vendors that have some stools set up out front.

You definitely want to visit Chiang Day Market if you're into fresh fruits and vegetables, and exploring Thailand fresh yummies. You might want to use Google Translator for Thai language translation as most vendors speak Thai.

This vibrant market offers two distinct experiences depending on the time of day. In the evening, the market transforms into a welcoming hub for delicious Northern Thai street food. Visitors can enjoy a variety of local delicacies in a relaxed atmosphere with ample seating. The morning reveals a bustling fresh market, teeming with activity. Vendors offer a wide array of goods, from fresh meats and vegetables to ready-to-eat meals. The morning market is a lively scene, primarily frequented by locals, though it's becoming increasingly popular with tourists as well. With many English signs and friendly vendors, ordering is easy and enjoyable for everyone.

If you’re looking for a real taste of Northern Thailand, the Chiang Mai Gate Market is an absolute must-visit. This place is a street-food heaven — from early morning fresh produce and ingredients to a lively evening/night food market, it offers a full local market experience. What I love about it: The variety is huge — you get everything from classic Thai favourites to Northern Thai specialties. Dishes like grilled meats, noodles, desserts and snacks are available for very fair prices (most meals around 30–60 Baht, drinks even cheaper). The vibe is authentic and unpretentious: you’re not just surrounded by tourists — locals come here too, so you get that lively, everyday-Chiang Mai atmosphere. Seating is usually informal but cozy; it’s perfect for a relaxed dinner under the night sky. And if you time it right — I recommend going between ~6 PM and 8 PM — you’ll experience the market when it’s buzzing but not yet overcrowded. In short: Chiang Mai Gate Market gave me a flavour of local life, traditions and delicious Thai food — all in one place. If I come back to Chiang Mai, I’m going there again without a doubt! 👌
