I have visited Chiang Mai a few days ago from Bangkok. The airport is compact and has very comfortable location within the city area. When I arrived in the evening it was raining and there were no buses, so I ordered the taxi to my hotel. However, on my way back it appeared that the distance is not so long, so I got up earlier and walked to the airport. It took less than an hour. I also had a chance to use the VIP lounge. The Coral Lounge is great. They have large comfy chairs, various snacks, different kinds of drinks, including beer! Thanks to that, I was not bored when waiting for my flight back to Bangkok. Everything was excellent, I really enjoyed it!

I traveled to Chiang Mai from Kathmandu for a climate change training, taking a connecting flight through Bangkok. My experience at Chiang Mai Airport was smooth and welcoming. The airport is small but efficient and very easy to navigate. The scenery around the airport is lovely — surrounded by greenery and giving a warm first impression of northern Thailand. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed, quite a contrast to the busy terminals in Bangkok. What really stood out was the hospitality of the airport staff. Everyone I interacted with was friendly, polite, and ready to assist, which made the arrival experience very comfortable. Baggage claim was quick, signs were clear, and it didn’t take long to reach the exit. While the airport isn’t huge, it’s clean, well-managed, and has a few shops and cafes for quick refreshments. Overall, Chiang Mai Airport gave me a positive and peaceful welcome to the city — a great start to my visit!

Nice airport, about a 15 minute drive from night bazaar area to the airport around 8am. Please note there is a different terminal building for domestic and international flights, about a 2 minute drive apart. Arrivals was smooth, quick immigration clearance, customs was not difficult. The taxi can pick you up just by the gate of the terminal so no long walks. The international departure airside hall is small and has a few cafes and couple of f&b options. Immigration arrivals and departure is quick, the customs on arrivals was smooth. Good airport..!

Chiang Mai City in Thailand absolutely deserves a 5/5! Everything here is extremely good — from the rich history as an ancient Buddhist city to the stunning temples and mountain villages. The food is unforgettable, especially Khao Soi and Pad Thai. The cool weather adds to the charm, making every experience more enjoyable. People are friendly and welcoming, and the zoo is also a fun visit. Overall, Chiang Mai is an amazing destination that offers culture, nature, and incredible hospitality.

A rather small but very busy airport even at the wee hours of 1 AM. Lots of flight to China and Korea mostly. Unfortunately many shops are close past 10 PM and duty free shops around 12MN. So if you have a flight in the wee hours there is no place to buy food or drinks or a place to relax besides the waiting areas near the boarding gates. Other than that, it's very clean and generally very efficient. Taxi from the airport to the city costs B150 flat rate.

Very nice airport with plenty of food and a few shops to get souvenirs. There are also some high-end beauty products for sale. China Southern and China Eastern ticket counters can't help you at all with changing flights, booking flights, or refunds. They told us to do it online. We missed our flight trying to rebook because the website wouldn't take our credit cards. It was an absolute nightmare

Decent airport as far as non capital cities goes. Chiangmai being the second largest city in Thailand does deserve better though. Post-security dining options are sparse and overpriced: a Burger King (burgers cost ~250-400 THB), Black Canyon Coffee, a generic cafe, and two lounges (including Thai Airways’). The lack of variety and steep prices make it wise to eat beforehand or pack snacks. Retail shops offer pricey souvenirs—better to shop at local markets before arriving. Baggage drop counters can get chaotic during peak times, so arrive early. Once past that hurdle, security is efficient with two hand-carry scan lanes, though lines build up during rushes process remained fairly painless with the exception of the shoe removing requirement. The Thai Airways lounge provides a quieter space for eligible travelers, but amenities are basic. Functional for quick transits, but the airport’s limited food and shopping highlight its no-frills vibe. Pro tip: Bring snacks, skip the airport gifts, and prioritize speed over comfort here. A practical but uninspiring gateway—manage expectations, and you’ll breeze through smoothly.

For me the airport is great and nice. The airport is very straightforward and not confusing. Located just a few KM from town and not a hassle. The airport is not huge but it is enough to accommodate people. The airport is not busy despite the status of the town as one of the big cities in Thailand. The immigration is fast, the custom check is very detailed. The airport is also very clean, in terms of the toilet, waiting area and parking. Also equipped with a Muslim Prayer room and charging port. The smell is also good, the seating is comfortable. The staff is very friendly and nice. The immigration do their work properly and the perfume seller at the airport is very friendly. The environment is really nice. I enjoyed spending my time there despite the delay on my flight.
