4 of the best traditional markets in Asia - SilverKris

"Also known as Walking Street, this vibrant weekly market runs from the famous Tha Phae Gate down Ratchadamnoen Road to the Wat Phra Singh temple and showcases handmade local crafts and street performance. Stalls sell everything from sarongs, shoes and silk goods to paper and wood handicrafts, and there are even mobile foot-massage vendors offering 30-minute sessions for about THB70. Street food ranges from classic pad thai to modern snacks like waffles and French fries. The market operates every Sunday from about 4pm until midnight." - Samantha David

The Sunday Night Market is an incredible experience and definitely the best I visited on my trip. The scale is huge, offering a fantastic mix of delicious street food and unique shopping with local artisans. It's so engaging; I spent three hours there and could have easily stayed longer. A few tips for a great visit: 1) Go early: It gets very crowded, especially after 7 PM. 2) Wear comfy shoes: You'll be doing a lot of walking! 3) Bring cash: Many vendors are cash-only. 4) Be adventurous: Try all the different foods! Come prepared for the crowds and you'll have an amazing time. Highly recommended!

The Chiang Mai Sunday Night Market is an absolute gem and one of the highlights of my trip to Thailand! The atmosphere is vibrant and full of life, with an endless stretch of stalls offering everything from handmade crafts and local art to delicious street food and unique souvenirs. What really stood out to me was the variety and quality of the goods—many are locally made and incredibly affordable. The food was amazing too! I got to try authentic Thai snacks, fresh fruit smoothies, and even some fun fusion dishes. The market is also very well-organized despite the crowds. Everyone was friendly, and I always felt safe while exploring. It’s more than just shopping—it’s a cultural experience with live music, street performances, and a wonderful sense of community. If you’re in Chiang Mai on a Sunday, don’t miss it. Come hungry, bring cash, and take your time—this market is an unforgettable experience!

Amazing market!! Probably our favourite that we have visited so far, think it felt not too busy because it was so big! Really nice clothes, jewellery etc and all really reasonably priced. The food seemed quite spread about but when we found it, it was all very delicious.

Absolutely incredible! This Market felt like it went on across the entire city! One of the most exciting markets in Thailand. Honestly, I don't think I even saw everything. We took a couple of breaks while walking the market because it was so big and hot and amazing and a little overwhelming! But we loved every minute of it.

Definitely a must-visit place! This Sunday-only night market offers everything—from beautiful artwork and traditional clothing to a wide variety of Thai street food and other local specialties. You’ll find plenty of items that reflect the culture of Thailand and Chiang Mai. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, which lasted over two hours, yet it felt like there was still so much more to explore. The quality of the clothing is excellent, and I also got to witness some traditional Thai performances happening around the market. Highly recommended!

It’s a very large market but was a little disappointed. Alot of the stuff sold is very similar from stall to stall. Great if you want to go for a stroll to take a look, but I don’t feel the need to visit it again. Having said this the food area had an amazing variety of food to eat.

Chiang Mai night market (Sunday walking street) is by far the best night market in all of Thailand. This place literally goes on for miles and miles with so many side street subsections. It’s incredible the amount of stuff and people that are here and it is so well worth the trip! It is nearby Wat Chedi Luang.
