The food was hit and miss, delicious bread, nice burrata and an unusual take on beef carpaccio which was tasty. The pasta dishes were a let down. The black pasta and crab was not what I expected and the combination of thick pasta with a heavy tomato base didn't pair well with the crab and I left most of it. The rabbit ragu was dry. On a positive note the zucchini side was really good as were the potatoes and steak. We finished with cheese and panna cotta The wine list was small but both the Riesling and Shiraz bottles we ordered were excellent. The service was sparse but friendly.

I don't know how they have such good reviews. When you're paying $150 a head you expect service to be pretty good and to leave full and happy. The service was non existent, long waits and having to flag down staff, even though it wasn't busy - we came on a Thursday night. The food was not authentic, nor big enough to fill you. There was hardly any pasta in the bowl and it was missing flavour. If you closed your eyes you wouldn't know what you were eating. The gnochhi was oily with hardly any meat. We only ordered Desserts because we were all still hungry and were disappointed yet again. Half the strawberries on the panna cotta were off and should have been in the bin, not my plate. We would never come back.

When only the best will do! Exceptional service from Daniele! A wealth of knowledge from Giovanni! Food amazing, could not fault anything.

We visited this place after making an online reservation in advance for a special occasion. The food itself wasn’t bad, but the biggest downside was the extremely long wait between the five-course dishes. We arrived before 7 PM and planned to visit another café after 10 PM, but due to the long waiting times, we only managed to leave the restaurant at 10:30 PM. Despite paying $100 per person, we were far from satisfied. The tables were placed too close together, creating a chaotic atmosphere, and we didn’t feel like drinking alcohol. However, the staff offered us drinks four times, which felt excessive. Perhaps this is a cultural difference?

It was my first time visiting Chianti and unfortunately I was underwhelmed. Going in, I thought this place was one of Adelaide’s top restaurants… The staff were great but the only highlight for me. The soundrack was a bit confusing: 70-80’s upbeat music would be better suited for a bar. Fun I guess if that’s your thing? The lights were dimmed through the night and the only thing to do was laugh at how dark it was. The food however was such a let down. The pasta was served with the same garnish as an entree (should be optional?) and like the duck; wasn’t hot. I really wanted to like it but for the price ($180) it did not meet my expectations.

A great dining experience at Chianti. High quality Authentic Italian food with a great selection of wines from all over the world. The lamb Rague pasta was excellent and we want to thank Claudio and his staff for making us feel special.

Yelp
Scheduled for a lunch with friends. This is a place with an old school vibe, great food and fantastic service. Go here and have your waiter suggest a great meal. Get a lovely wine pairing and sit back and relax. The waiter and the owner were funny and sooooo inviting! Very professional and honestly the most inviting experience I've ever had. It's bit noisy around 12pm-1pm, if you want to have a conversation with your companion at a normal volume, you might consider another time. It will be a place I come back to time and time again thanks to whole team. Can't say about great things about this place. PS. Must try eggplants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
The restaurant has the most popular (and my favourite) rabbit dish in the main restaurant, and many friends have told me to come for breakfast as it's delicious so I must try that soon. Chianti's has a calendar of special event dinners in their upstairs room, Gallo Nero. I've been to a few dinners now, the last one being the Valle d'Aosta region of Italy. The Sommelier was Duncan Vent, Front of House d'Arcy Sadler and Mackenzie Sadler and Kitchen Tobias Gush and Ann Oliver. To let you imagine the wonderful menu, it started with a glass of Italian sparkling at the bar, then antipasto of lardo and roasted chestnuts on toasted house-made rye bread washed down with '13 Ermes Pavese Blanc de Morgex se de le Salle. A cabbage soup was next served with rye crostini and Fontina cheese, and the wine '11 Ermes Pavese Le Sette Scalinate Magnum. Next was a cheese fondue with a glass of '13 Elio Ottin Torrette Superieur. Then grilled wild Adelaide Hills porcini with polenta. Absolutely divine with '13 Elio Ottin Pinot Noir. The final savoury dish was panfried milk fed veal filled with Gruyere and sage. A glass of '11 Proprieta Sperino Uvaggio Nebbiolo was the perfect drop to have with this. The dessert was chocolate and hazelnut mousse with nougat gelato and a delicious dessert wine Le Birlou. These special events book out early and is worth every dollar. Special....yes, and we all deserve to indulge from time to time. When's the next dinner?!!

Yelp
After hearing rave reviews from my brother and knowing my colleagues frequent this place every fortnight for breakfast, it was a no brainer for me to come check it out. Only dined here for dinner, i wasn't sure what to expect for breakfast. Going by the dinner prices, I knew it would be on the pricey side. But I am always happy to pay for quality and creativity. Customer service was ultra friendly, from confirming our booking to attending our hospitality needs. Attention to detail was worth noting. I didn't want anything too heavy, as I had lunch plans, so I settled on the Traditional Breakfast, which was bacon, eggs (your way), grilled tomatoes and toasted ciabatta. Other good looking dishes included the herb scones which might be their winter breakfast special; gatto di patate (sweet potato cake, poached eggs, kale sautéed with chilli, top with sweet potato crisps, with rocket and dill salad) and a gluten free traditional breakfast. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Nods of approval all around. For those wanting to start their or continue their drinking weekend, breakfast cocktails are available. For the quality and service, with a changing specials board, I will be back for breakfast!

Yelp
I am quite shocked at the ratings and reviews on here - wow. It seems like most people had extremes with Chianti - it's either ravingly good or incredibly bad. Fortunately, I had the most fantastic experience! I came here for my birthday dinner last week. Made a booking three days prior as I've heard it can be quite booked out, and they made sure to ring me every day to make sure the booking was still valid, which was nice. Upon arrival, we were ushered in by the nicest girl who had an amazing and bubbly personality to match. We were served some lovely homemade sourdough and a zucchini canapé while waiting for our food. Both were delicious. For entree we got the Frutti di Mare in Brodo (that broth is just yum), the polenta (holy moley, the sides of the polenta are just charred to perfection and the whole thing is just beautifully salted) and the parpadelle pasta which was a special of the day. All of them were gorgeous. Granted, it was a good 20-25 mins before the mains come but it wasn't an uncomfortably long wait. We got the slow cooked rabbit which wasn't too bad. For a slow cooked meat it was still probably a bit tough. We also the blue swimmers crab pasta which was yum as well. For dessert we got the sweet ginger ice cream slice with brandy snaps. It was heaven on a dish. I had my apprehensions about the ginger component but it went beautifully with the rest of it. The waitress also gave us some complimentary chocolate balls on a dish that said 'happy birthday' in Italian. That absolutely made my night. We also got some raspberry sorbet palette cleansers before dessert which in itself was a delight. Overall, it was a classy, classy joint. A bit on the expensive side, but so worth it for a special occasion.

Yelp
Chianti seems to tick all the boxes for all occasions. Regardless of the circumstances - breakfast/lunch/dinner, big/small group, eat inside/outside - or what you decide to eat it is consistently great. When you combine great food with great service the end result will always be a great restaurant which is what Chianti is. The service is exquisite, Maria (the worlds best maître d) will make you feel like you are a treasured guest in her own home rather than just another diner in her restaurant. I have no idea if she actually knows who I am but it always feels like she does which is good enough for my ego. Chianti also doesn't have that pretentious feel that some other fine dining restaurants have. The hardest task at any restaurant is to decide what to eat. One would think that given every meal I've ever tasted from Chianti I have loved it would be easier to pick now. Unfortunately not the case, I still end up obsessing over the menu debating if I go with a trusted favourite or branch out into the unknown. If its your first visit to Chianti then I'll help you out, you have to order the gnocchi; served any which way are sure to be AMAZING. I've often heard a rumor that an old man from London makes the gnocchi and that is his only job.. all day every day he makes gnocchi. I've never bothered to verify if this is fact or fiction but regardless they are the best gnocchi ever. It is their light pillowy texture that makes you feel like you have arrived on Cloud 9. Visit Chianti and you will not be disappointed, I swear on the gnocchi!

Yelp
OK This restaurant was recommended to us, we turned up early only a couple of tables seated. They wanted to seat us next to the door, as it was a cold day we asked if we could go further inside. The answer was no but we could sit outside with a heater, which we opted for as we thought it would be warmer! However we then met some friends who had gone in maybe 5 minutes earlier, they had not booked and were inside in the warm. When we left the restaurant was still not full inside and no tables had reserved on them, I can only think we did not fit their bill! Food was OK, our waitress was nice and friendly, should put her as front of house. Would we return NO. June 2016

Yelp
This place is an Adelaide institution and a notorious hang out for suits who attended the handful of prestigious boy's schools in and around the city. It is even the preferred haunt of radio personalities, column writers and other minor celebrities bred in our fair state. As indicated by the name (which I have always found to be somewhat ironic - with the wine, Chianti, at times attracting a suspect reputation) the menu boasts solid Italian inspiration and flavours. This said- such dubious patronage should not be held against the friendly, professional and knowledgeable team at Chianti. The dozen, or so experiences I have had at this top notch Restaurant have lived up to its excellent reputation. As a student, I used to live around the corner and frequented the restaurant a few times for breakfast (being the only menu I could afford). The staff were always accommodating and the eggs Florentine / Benedictine were fresh and poached to perfection with the hollandaise tasting every bit like it was made from scratch on the spot. The mandarin juice and Italian hot chocolate are especially notable beverage offerings which I have always enjoyed. In recent years I have dined here for the most part at dinner time and am assured by my friends and colleagues who join me that the pasta selection is delicious. I, however notoriously opt for dishes such as, slow roasted beef cheek and fish stew. I am also a big fan of specials and will often order these, as they are likely to be fresh and well thought out, prepared with care and attention. I love sitting outside, even in winter and huddling under the blankets provided, but there is also ample seating inside for the less adventurous. Chianti is packed for almost every service, so make sure you phone and book to ensure the best possible experience! Enjoy!

Yelp
We stopped by Chianti for breakfast and it was quite good, but nothing to write home about. I had the Bircher muesli which I found a bit too sweet for my liking. My husband had the strawberry crepes which he loved and came with lots of fresh mint so were bursting with flavour. The coffee was good and the service was very friendly. I think I was just expecting more since this place had been quite hyped up. A pleasant experience overall :)

Yelp
Fancy place to host a brunch.the poached egg spicy kale and potato cake were delicious.i am looking forward to returning to trying other items on the menu and returning for breakfast. Wonderful service. I didnt appreciate the "tipping" option on the tablet when paying for the meal, as i feel it should not be pushed in tje customers face whilst the waiter/waitress is watching, however the serive provided is worth tipping for if you are one who tips.

Yelp
Best breakfast I've experienced since my lovely morning in Tasmania. The affogato I had was quite different from what I usually have and I was glad that I did. We had the Big Breakfast and chef's special which was 2 lovely blueberry pancakes. I'll let the pictures explain themselves. The service was top notch, absolutely nothing to complain. The only thing you should keep in mind is that you should book a reservation beforehand as we were only so lucky we got a table outside.

Yelp
Al Fresco dining on a perfect day, sitting watching the business of the workers walk by ..delicious and imaginative Italian food at its best, efficient friendly and proud service JUST YUM... Happy to be alive!!

Camille B.

Yelp
I've been here for breakfast twice, and twice I have waited more than 20mins to receive my bill. Being seated isn't an issue, and service is always great at the beginning. The food comes quickly and is excellent. Thoughtful and delicious. But when it comes time to leave, or have a second coffee, waitstaff are nowhere to be found. The 6 floor staff are too busy tending to the one table of boat shoe wearing old men who are bashing their chairs in to the back of mine, without apology, while they get up to request things and greet friends. My dining partner had to ask twice, the second time leaving their seat to address a waiter. We finally leave our yellow plastic chairs after paying a bill that includes two $5.50 double shot lattes, made from generic beans, so astringent even sugar couldn't save it. For somewhere that prides themselves on service and breakfast, it's no mystery that the place is half empty mid morning on a weekend.

Yelp
Every meal should come with a lemon sack... Yes you heard right, it is the little details that count at Chianti and it is what makes this place The Italian fare institution of Adelaide. Nothing is too much of an ask for the staff at Chianti and you walk away from the place not wondering "where on earth did all my money go," but instead thinking, "what a wonderful way to spoil myself/a loved one." I could have eaten their entire antipasto menu (and probably should have) because it seemed the smaller the morsel, the more packed full of flavour. My favourite was the crumbed scallops drizzled with truffle oil and my partner's favourite was a simple fried dish of whitebait, calamari and miscellaneous fish x on a bed of roasted tomato sauce with (wait for it....) a lemon served in a sack (of course so it wouldn't spray in your eye when squeezed)! All pastas on the menu were traditionally simple and my Spanner Crab pasta was deliciously fresh but a little bit overwhelmingly "crabby" after about half way through. However, apparently the bunny on the menu is "spectacularly good, falling away from the bone before you even pick up your fork." Although I honestly couldn't tell the difference between whether a wine came out of a bottle or from another bottle that it had been poured into (decanted for those wine buffs) it was a nice touch and showed appreciation for the drinks menu as much as the food. It isn't possible to order a "cheaper bottle" on the menu. Sky rockets in flight, this place is a dinner delight.

Yelp
Friends of mine have eaten at Chianti far more often than I, but since my experience there on Monday night, the phrase 'hit and miss' is making more sense. Apart from waiting almost half an hour to have our drinks order taken (I was with my parents; I needed alcohol), the service was good -- all of the staff were lovely, so I can't fault them there. I can, however, fault them on my main - Frutti di Mare in Brodo. What the menu said: 'Poached South Australian prawns, squid, mussels & scallops served in Blue Swimmer crab & saffron broth.' What actually came out: 2 prawns, some squid and mussels, and 1 scallop, in saffron water. I was so disappointed, especially with the broth. I love a good broth. This was not good at all. For $36, this meal should have been much better. My entree and dessert were fine, though not outstanding, and the rest of the party seemed to enjoy their dinners, so perhaps I just struck them on a bad broth night. However, next time I want delicious, expensive Italian, I'll be going back to Rigoni's.

Clayton R.

Yelp
A group of us had breakfast which, unfortunately for all the wrong reasons, we will not forget in a hurry. Apart from the menu being much more basic for groups larger than 4, yes 4 is the limit... The meals came out slow with one being forgotten and didnt come out until most of us had already finished. you would think simple arithmatic would ensure everyone had a meal. It didnt stop there, the eggs, despite asking for soft poach, were hard boiled, appart from the one that came out last it was clearly rushed so it was atleast soft. The quantities on plates varied from acceptable amount of salmone to another being 2 pieces the size of 50c piece, despite it being the salmon breakfast. Anyway this was my second visit, not again!!

Yelp
Maybe it was just a bad day, but I could not believe how poor the italian food was compared to the cost . Not sue if one is after the silver service vs quality of food. So so sad, how high expectations, and perhaps that was the mistake, as so many people raved on about the quality of the food. But after coming back from a 3 week holiday in Italy, I was saddened but what Adelaide tolerates as being of high quality...

Liz P.

Yelp
Not a great experience. Recieved very undercooked food which should be easily addressed instead i was treated to an angry response not by the service staff but by the manager. Did not appear to be interested in customer opinion or service. I have never experienced anything like this previously. I was made to feel small and that I did not know what I was talking about. Not planning to return any time soon

Trina T.

Yelp
This restaurant has nice ambience for dinner as its fine dining. Traditional italian dishes that you dont find in many Italian restaurants in Adelaide. I went for dinner on my birthday and had the lamb brains for entree n roast rabbit/ coniglio al forno for main. A friend had venison n another had steak. The downside is the high charge for byo birthday cake. Charge is per diner each for yr own cake. We ended up going elsewhere to hv our cake. But otherwise this place is good for special occasions.

Vivien D.

Yelp
My reason for selecting CC to take some interstate relatives is because I have always found it to be consistently good. This is a classy establishment and on a bleak Wednesday night was buzzing, good sign. The food is Italian but very refined Italian, beautifully presented with care. Although we all enjoyed our meals and the ambience, it just didn't quite live up to the last few visits. My pappardelle with Anitra (duck) had great flavor but the duck pieces sad to say were just a little dry. My husbands rabbit was spot on as usual. The seafood choices were a big hit although the scallops just looked a little overlooked. Overall really good and we will return but would like to see it return to past glory

Stephen G.

Yelp
What a disappointment. Went here anticipating a good experience. Could not have been more wrong. Have eaten here previously and been happy but this restaurant now appears tired, not interested in customer service not interested in good food. I think there are an endless number of delightful dining experiences in Adelaide that are much better. This is a resturant no longer worthy of its past reputation. It is on its last legs on it's way out the door. Don't waste your time or money

Brad J.

Yelp
I had heard that this was one of the best restaurants in Adelaide, if not the best. Well, I thought it was okay. If that's the best that Adelaide has to offer, then I feel a bit sorry for the locals, because I certainly wasn't thrilled with my experience. There were a few issues. My first impression was 'nice place, a bit prententious maybe', and then the next impression came from talking to some staff seemed to confirm the pretention. I wasn't terribly impressed by the selection on the menu (and I realise that this is a purely personal thing, I'm only noting this as an observation for others like me). I don't eat seafood, so there goes a good third of the menu. Then there's the oddities like chicken livers and that sort of thing. There's another third gone. I'm not paying $70 for a steak, so I was really left with a choice of about three or four things that looked remotely appealing. I settled for the gnocchi. This, itself, was alright. Was it about thirty bucks worth of alright, no. But it's a premium restaurant, so you already know the price is going to be high. To me, the gnocchi wasn't significantly better than other places where it costs $10 less. So that's pretty much my experience in a nutshell. It's okay, but not amazing.

Samantha T.

Yelp
Chianti is high class Italian. I have been there for breakfast and dinner and they were both amazing. Although it is very expensive, it is definitely good quality. You pay for what you get. For breakfast they do a great granola with yoghurt and their cooked breakfasts are amazing. However, you can't go past their waffle. It is the best waffle I have ever eaten. Their coffee isn't bad either, but nowhere near the same standard as the food. Dinners are classic Italian, but more gourmet. Their seafood pasta is the best and it comes in an enormous serve. I had their gnocchi, which was smaller but the cheese was so rich I couldn't of eaten any more. They have a good selection of beers and wines, generally Italian, which are also quite expensive. Chianti is great for special occasions. I wouldn't eat there everyday, even if I did have the money, as the food is quite rich and there is not a massive selection to chose from. If you do go to Chianti make sure you dress the part, otherwise you may feel like the odd one out.

Chris K.

Yelp
The service is exceptional at Chianti, it's up there with some of the best I've experienced around the Adelaide CBD. The food is tasty but it leaves you wanting more. In that scenario, I highly recommend the home made tiramisu, it's served right in front of you and, if you're lucky, you might get two spoonfuls! Yum :)

Glynis R.

Yelp
This is my favourite restaurant to bring my daughters. We each have our preferred dishes. We enjoy the breakfasts, lunch and dinner menus. The service is always excellent and we love the sample dishes also offered. They are a great opportunity to try new dishes.

Kelly-anne L.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had a beautiful breakfast here. I have the Chianti tasting plate. It was exceptional. Breakfast is my favourite meal. The front of house lady made the place feel so welcoming. It was so cold that morning she offered me a blanket.

David P.

Yelp
Wonderful breakfast at Chianti yesterday before the motor racing. Great service as usual and food was first class. Thanks Maria.

Bean M.

Yelp
the first meal in Adelaide, just on the corner where we stay, they said it's the best Italian restaurant in the city. we had an Antipasti Misti as entree and share a special main course of rabbit,a homemade tiramisu,a glass of riesling and a coopers pale, everything was fabulous and the service was really pleasant.after that we decided to have one more drink and some tea and all these were nice...We will definitely come back and highly recommend.

Michael A.

Yelp
Both my companion and I found the meal bland and over priced. We came for breakfast once and it was great but now I wouldn't return.

Yelp
We booked a table to celebrate my partner's bday for the first time in Adelaide. I emailed a few days before to ask what options do they have for a bday sweet surprise and I was called by a Vicky(I think) which confirmed that once the desert will be ordered they will organise a surprise/bday message to make my partner feel special. After a full menu ordered and a poor service during the night, we ordered the desert which came without any message, as any other usual desert. I went straight to the waitress and asked about the Bday message that had to be included(as a surprise!) and she came back with two small candies on a plate!!! You cannot imagine the disappointment I felt when I saw those candies!!! For a restaurant which pretends to be fine dining the only thing that they were able to organise for a bday dinner confirmed and requested one week in advance was only 2 candies??? Even a doughnut would have looked much better!!! I cannot even mention the way they made me feel when I was hoping to make my partner's bday special and it turned out to be a total mess , especially when we spent there a few hundreds $ !! This place is too far from fine dining and way too expensive for the service provided! I do not recommend going there , there are lots of great places in Adelaide which make customers feel welcomed even if there is no special occasion! Don't waste your time and money here, especially if there is a special occasion!!!

Alan W.

Yelp
For a special get together this is the place to go. We reserved a table and went on a Sunday evening. The staff were courteous, friendly and knowledgeable about their menus. The presentation on the plate was excellent however it's NOT pretentious with a huge plate and three or four small articles. This is really hearty and nourishing. We decided on mains, deserts and coffee and we found that ample. Any big eaters out there the starters also looked incredible. My new favourite restaurant in Adelaide and I will be returning soon. The bill was fairly expensive but it's well worth it as you won't be disappointed. Did I mention their wine list?? A wide range of top quality plonk!

J D.

Yelp
Probably the best restaurant in Adelaide - certainly my favourite. Amazing atmosphere and the food is exceptional. Definitely one for a special occasion.

Sam P.

Yelp
Chianti made a false complaint against my review in hopes to get it taken down. Their food obviously wasn't prepared or stored correctly resulting in food poisoning. Their staff were snobby and rude and they now wish to remove my review through false pretences. I definitely do not recommend eating there.

Julie C.

Yelp
I had not dined here for quite a while and was looking forward to the evening as I remembered my last time was fantastic. Well what a shock this time! my group was 9 adults and 2 children. The restaurant was packed and I mean over packed you couldn't even pull out your chair to go to the bathroom. Service was slow, actually probably the slowest i've experienced. 15 minutes wait to be presented the wine you ordered and then continually waiting to have your glass topped up (they didn't put the bottle on the table so you could help yourself).Rude waitress who had obviously been working there too long as her confidence in her ability had crossed to cockiness and fake politeness bordering on patronizing remarks. upon nearly completing our starters we requested the menus so we could order our mains - the kids were getting tired and we wanted to get them fed quicker - we were told we would not be given any menus until our starters were finished! yes - unbelievable. and the reason for this.....wait for it.....because there isn't enough room on the table, so finish the starters then we will clear the plates then you can have your menus. I felt as though I had reverted back to a 5 year old child and mum wasn't going to let me have dessert until I'd eaten my vegies! So overall would I go back....not a chance, food = average, price = expensive, service = well I wont be able to write the word i would like to use here.

Travis B.

Yelp
This is one of the best meals I have had in Australia. The service was excellent, the food sublime, the wine selection grand. I would seriously fly from Darwin just to eat here!
