Location is everything with this hotel, with views of the lake right out the front door. The free parking with the shuttle and short ride to city are so convenient. The rooms are clean, not fancy and it sits in a quieter neighborhood, felt safe but it is right off of Lakeshore. Staff was quick and kind for check-in and check-out. Double check the restaurant next door if you plan to rely on it, not sure if it is open. Definately will stay here again!

Google
One of the best in Chicago with river walk & awesome room & service. On top of it..Great location for easy access to the Lakefront Trail (cyclists, runners, etc). Metra Electric line is just 0.5 mile away to get back downtown and connect to anywhere

We stayed for 1 night over 1.5 years ago. The continental breakfast was the most memorable part. Oh, and the rats in the parking lots, climbing up into their garbage bins. The family of raccoons in the tree above the garbage dumpsters were fun to watch too. Would not return unless on a VERY tight budget. There was no pool when we went....it was an outdated, drained outdoor pool....misleading photos.

Google
Great location for easy access to the Lakefront Trail (cyclists, runners, etc). Metra Electric line is just 0.5 mile away to get back downtown and connect to anywhere else you want to go. If you don't use the "Do Not Disturb" sign, you WILL be disturbed, housekeeping is relentless. They don't seem to clean one room at a time, it seems they clean all the rooms, all the time. From 8am-5pm, in and out, stomping around, up and down, slamming doors. It's not a place you want to take sick and have to spend a day in your room cause you won't get any rest. If you plan to spend every day out doing something, it's not a bad little place. The area is a little uneasy after dark, but I was out after midnight a few times and never had any issue. There's ice buckets, but I never found an ice machine, granted I never asked either. It's easy enough to get ice from the Best West next door. Another pro-tip about the Best West next door is go enjoy their free breakfast. No one knows what every single guest looks like; I did it all 4 days I stayed at Lake Shore and never got caught.

I will not stay at this hotel again. The room smells awful. It had a mold/mildew smelled. The room wasn't completely clean, and the housekeeping lady brought pillow shams and towels because there was none there. There is mold throughout the shower, including the shower head. There is no microwave at this location either. The ice machine is located in the main building on the 3rd floor. I would not recommend staying in the rooms off the site of the main building. These rooms are not modernized nor kept up.

Google
This is a solid 3-star hotel. It felt safe, there was parking next to the rooms and there are amenities within a 5-10 minute drive. The lobby has been upgraded, but the rooms are dated (old carpet and furniture, popcorn ceiling and walls). Everything was, however, clean and neat. It would have been nice to have at least a minifridge in the room - there is definitely space for it. And there is no convenient ice machine. But it's decent for the price, and is convenient to major attractions and downtown.

Positive: The room was adequate for the price. The employee who checked me in was polite, professional, and efficient. Negative: The other employees I I interacted with, saw interacting with other customers, weren't so great. It is a dated room - no USB charging points so take an adapter. Negative: ""

Google
definitely dated but overall clean and adequate. you have to check in at the best western (also where the breakfast is) but the staff are nice. lots of noise from the hallway when people open their doors and go up the stairs, but surprisingly quiet otherwise. there was a party above us the last night but the front desk person took care of it and was super apologetic despite it not being their fault. easy check in, easy check out, comfy bed and functional ac. bathroom was clean (the tp holder is at a comical distance from the toilet). good deal for something that lands somewhere between a motel 6 and a best western. the TV: be prepared for a throwback to the past.

Yelp
Out hotel, search criteria were something with free parking and ended up with this. This is in a great peaceful residential area and kudos to the location. However, the rooms were not as expected. We felt smoke smell as well in our non-smoking rooms and on asking reception they denied to change due to full booking and non-availability. It is good for the families to stay though and the rooms are decent. Seems very old and has not been renovated for long. Also, it seems best western took over this hotel since they were the ones who dealt with check-in/checkout here. The wifi was damn slow and keep disconnecting every now and then. Not a great service overall and I would not recommend this.

Yelp
I stayed at the Chicago Lakeshore Hotel June 17-18, 2023. My experience there was terrible. There was a visible mold, growing around the bathtub. Also, the room smell like dampness and mold . The carpet was filthy. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone who values cleanliness

Anthony R.

Yelp
it is now a homeless shelter connected to the best western. We had a reservation here and was very surprised by what we arrived to.

Yelp
I stayed at this place 7/8/22 and checked out 7/10/22 at 6:00 am and yet they charged me an extra day and thought I would not notice it on my bank statement. So I guess stealing is the practice of Chicago Lakeshore Hotel.

Ron S.

Yelp
The hotel and staff were fine but the neighborhood, Hyde park is a high crime area. We were in Chicago for the American Library Association meeting. Our truck was vandalized in their parking lot; welcome to Chicago! we called the police and they said that a flurry of smash and grabs occurred in the area. Other people that stayed there also had their cars vandalize. The choice is to pay $300 a night for a room near the convention area or risk being a victim...or just pass and don't attend activities in Chicago. I won't be coming back...ever.

Yelp
Unlike the nice neighboring Best Western Plus Hotel, which I understand operates under some kind of shared management, the Lake Shore Hotel is somewhat of a dump. The quality of the rooms and finishes are poorly done. There were visible stains on the carpet, discolored caulking in the dated bathrooms, unpleasant smells, and just an overall feeling of ickiness in the rooms. To be in such a nice upscale location as Hyde Park, there's no excuse for the quality to not be higher here. My advice to management is to consider an upgrade to these facilities and/or to just make them part of the Best Western Plus hotel for consistent quality. I get that it's a less expensive hotel than the Best Western Plus, but having such a low-quality product does not reflect well on the owner's brand. Please note: The photos shown for the Chicago Lake Front Hotel are extremely misleading as they are photos of the neighboring Best Western Plus. By showing those images under the banner of the Chicago Lake Front Hotel, management is misleading potential customers, given that the quality difference between the two hotels is pretty stark.

Yelp
Sorry to say but my bedding smelled like cigarettes. The furniture needs touched up and the door design isn't a standard open onto the parking space. It's a hallway and the heavy doors are noisy when my neighbors went in and out four times in the night. I chose it for the location thinking I would have a view of Lake Michigan but I should have asked for the Best Western high rise. I got the motel part. I also chose it for free parking. But it was not cheap. Also, the wife is not steady. It kept cutting out.

Yelp
OH MY GOD.... Stay away!!!!! Run as fast as you can the place is FILTHY. The first thing that came to mind when I checked in is the show "Hotel Impossible" its exactly what feature those type of "hotels" I dont have a clue why its called Hotel its beyond a zero star motel. Where do I start, the place is smelly, damp and dirty. The furniture is broken and and the carpet is torn and has nails sticking out. I was petrified to touch the bed, scared of bed bugs. The towels were EWWW and had hair and other.. I would never ever recommend this even to my worst enemy. The people at the front desk probably live there. Shame on expedia for having such a place listed on their site. Unless you are homeless and or utterly poor Do Not come near this place. Its independently owned by people who couldnt care less about the experience, cleanliness or anything else.

Yelp
I'm sure this place use to be a crap hole so when we booked this hotel a few months ago, I was really worried. I'm an OCD/Clean freak and am very particular about things. But, I was able to stay here for 6 full days! Granted, we were barely in the hotel room and only slept there but the room was clean and did it's job. I wasn't grossed out. The maid came everyday to make our bed and give us fresh towels. The AC unit kind of sucked, but it worked since it wasn't too hot in September. Kudos to Stephanie at the Front Desk for letting us check in early. She was so accommodating and helped us even catch a shuttle from Downtown to get to the hotel. They also give you a discounted rate to eat at the breakfast buffet they have every morning. We didn't get a chance to eat there, but we always saw people coming in and out of the restaurant. It had a full bar too. The hotel room had a mini fridge and a microwave. Full bathroom and a king size bed. The TV was a nice flat screen and had all the channels we needed. Overall, impressive. Next time, we will most likely stay in the city. But Uber/Lyft were able to pick us up from this hotel and we were able to get to a lot of places in a timely manner. The hotel also had free wifi which is a plus! We did not have any noise interruptions with construction. The last day we were there - they were repaving the hotel streets. But it didn't wake me up before 9am.

Yelp
TERRIBLE! I wish I had read the reviews first. It smelled horrible. The whole place is under construction and looks like a dump. It's not near anything good. The shuttle wasn't running. My bathtub was completely clogged. They should be closed during renovations. It's embarrassing. Also, don't expect to get any rest during the day. Construction is all morning until 6pm and very loud!

Yelp
Yikes! This hotel was about $160/ night on Priceline, so I thought it should be pretty nice. Wrong. This was also the only hotel in the wole city that seemed to have a room available and wasn't $400/night. There was a reason for this. The staff at the desk was rude. There are signs that ask to pardon the construction; however, the whole place is rundown, and I don't see anything really being done. The first thing I noticed in our room when I walked in was the patched, stained ceiling. The furniture is mismatched and looks like it came from a thrift store (and not in a charming way), and the toilet paper is so far from the toilet, that I couldn't reach it from the toilet. The only redeeming qualities of the joint would be that the pillows felt nice and weren't flimsy, the bed was comfy. Oh, and I guess the comforters were pretty.

Dashae M.

Yelp
I stayed here for 3 days. nice clean room. I asked each day for towels none was available either was face towels I had to go buy some for us I had a double bed cause it was 4 of us they only put 2 in the room. I also called for toilet tissue it was one roll for three days customer service was not good. It's a perfect spot to get to different things. I enjoyed Chicago for the first time not the room.

Yelp
I would have given a half star if allowed. I'd NOT stay at this location for the following reasons: 1. The girl on duty couldn't find our second reservation at first and wasn't going to give us the room until I showed her I had booked two rooms. She seem put off that it was actually work for her to figure out what to do.Then she said we'd have to wait for her to input our information, but then went on to input two other customers that arrived long after we had arrived. I felt she snubbed us for the customers that were of the same race as her. 2. We were in non-smoking unit 524, but the whole hall and our room reeked of dope. Some one was smoking so much dope that it was penetrating our room. 3. The chain lock for the door in unit 516 was missing. It left us feeling a lack of security. 4. It's not worth the price. There is no mini fridge in the room. The bathroom is a strange setup where the toilet paper is two feet or more from the commode. The shower in unit 524 whistled loudly and the lack of water pressure gave the feeling of being spit on. 5. The girl from the hotel next door was at this hotel just sitting around and felt the need to lecture us on the guy of our party sitting down while we waited for the girl on duty to get to finishing our reservation. 6. Pool looked fine but there was a notice stating it was closed until farther notice. The pictures online look great but the reality is, just don't put yourself through the headache.

Yelp
Terrible! The photos are deceiving. The hotel is more of a motel and is in need of a face lift. The furniture should be thrown out, not just repaired! The mattress is uncomfortable. This is without a doubt, a one star motel! We made an error and booked our room for 3 nights instead of 4 nights. Thank goodness for the mistake! We left before 9:00 am on our departure day and looked for accommodations elsewhere. The only good thing about our stay was the LOCATION.

Yelp
My taxi driver drove around the building twice trying to find the office, telling me he didn't think the place was open for business. I finally told him to let me out and I'd find it on foot.. I had no choice but to stay in this place, since other hotels nearby were sold out and I needed to be in Hyde Park. The office was a squalid, make-shift space in a motel room. My room was down at the end of a dirty walkway draped with plastic sheets, due to the renovation going on. My room looked OK, but noise from other rooms and the stairway outside my door was constant. Nothing they do will fix this problem - the building design is fundamentally flawed. The shower head was leaking out the side, and I had to fix it before using. The heating/cooling system worked, but was noisy and blew air straight at the bed. The owners of this place should be ashamed of themselves.

Yelp
This hotel is NOT a 3 star hotel as most booking sites have it listed. It is, at best, a 2 star motel. Even accounting for the construction that was going on (of which we were not informed of before booking) this hotel is not up to 3 star standards. The website and booking sites pictures of this property are misleading as well. On the second night we were there, the hot water was out. Now maybe that was due to the construction, but usually a hotel/motel will give you advanced warning of something like that at check in. Nope, we were totally surprised when we tried to take a shower after a long day of walking around the city and taking public transportation. On the third day of our stay, we came back to the motel early to chill and have some down time only to find our room was infested with ants, despite the only food we had in the room being dry and sealed so there was no way we contributed to the infestation. I'm talking more than a dozen ants in a 5"x5" square section of the carpet spread out across the room. That's quite a bit of ants. We complained and moved rooms but that eliminated about an hour of our time between trying to get a new room and actually switching rooms, not to mention the loss of our intent to relax. The staff member at the desk when I went to get our new keys just handed me the keys without an apology, but was friendly enough I suppose (despite calling me "sir" even though I'm a woman, and no I'm not butch). Upon check out the next day we asked if they could compensate us for the inconvenience (as they should) and while the morning staff was much more apologetic and helpful then the night staff was they only refunded us $20 which was kinda low in my opinion after what we went through. Try packing up your stuff on short notice and having to thoroughly check everything to make sure you aren't transporting a ton of ants back to the new room and having to switch rooms at all during your stay due to uncleanliness of the current room while you are on a vacation and trying to relax and catch up with friends from across the country in the first meeting you've all had together. On a positive note, I will say that the property will probably be nicer once construction is done, but I would still be hesitant to call it a 3 star property. The location was pretty nice and the staff were mostly friendly.

Yelp
I don't agree with all the hate and discontent about this place. No, it's not a grand hotel, but I found it to be a very decent economy hotel. It was not dirty. It did not smell like smoke - a problem I have with lots of hotels. It looked freshly updated. It's not in a "bad neighborhood" - it's a 10 minute walk from upscale Hyde Park. Yes, it's more like a Motel 6 than a Hilton, but it is what it is. If you want a lux hotel, spend $400 plus a night and don't stay here.

Yelp
I booked this hotel through a deal where I wasn't told what hotel I was getting. After I got this one, and I read all the reviews about it, I was TERRIFIED. I couldn't cancel the reservation and I had booked for 3 nights. I decided to give it a try. First of all, my experience was not as mortifying as many people mentioned here and on other websites. Maybe I got lucky? The room was decent. It was clean and had everything you need in a hotel room. Smelled fine. I was pretty relieved. That night the heater stopped working. It was the month of October, so it was in the 50s. Not so cold. But I was with my parents who are used to warm temperatures, 50s for them was uncomfortable. The next morning I informed the front desk and she said they will fix it. We returned in the evening (9 hours after I complained), and it was still broken. The front desk staff had changed and the maintenance was gone for the day. The new guy at the desk did not have any record of my complain, was unapologetic, borderline rude (even though he never said anything rude), and offered us a different room. We took it. This room looked the same as the first one, but it didn't have a fridge or a microwave. It did annoy me but again this room was also clean so I let it go. One corner of the room smelled like vomit but it was not strong, so again, I let it go. My advice, if you get this place way cheaper than others, you can consider it. I wouldn't return, for I am not sure if my experience would be good again. Pros: - 10-15 mins from Downtown - Free shuttle service to downtown - Free parking - Nice location (although there are no lake facing rooms) - Decently priced as compared to other hotels in Chicago Cons: - Unfriendly hotel staff - May or may not have a fridge/microwave - It is a Motel

Yelp
This hotel is the worst me and my mother stayed there for a family reunion the service was ok but the shower makes an awful screeching noise while in used also the power doesn't work while the light switch is up. My mother asked for money money off of her bill but the manager was really rude and made it see like we where the dumb ones in a obvious situation. please please please do not stay at this hotel the prices are great I know but it's not worth it.

Yelp
Previously a Ramada, this hotel is about 4 miles from McCormick Place. Chicago hotel prices are ridiculous so it may be tempting to book this lodging - surprisingly the ratings on TripAdvisor and hotels.com are acceptable. But I really would not recommend. The hotel staff here are the most apathetic I have ever encountered... After I checked in, I went to my room and was greeted by a strong cigarette smell. I always book nonsmoking rooms, so for a moment I wondered if I mistakenly did not book nonsmoking this time, or maybe it was not specified and I just ended up with a smoking room. Double checked my reservation and it was indeed nonsmoking... so I immediately called the front desk, and was told that there were no more nonsmoking rooms available but I could call the manager in the morning to see if any open up... The room was in pretty bad condition. However, this hotel is under renovation so hopefully the lobby and guest rooms will see much improvement. My TV did not work but I did not bring it up. I had a 6-night reservation but was only staying 2 nights and then my colleague was staying for the remaining nights. I know this is nothing complicated, but probably not a typical arrangement, so it is nice that the hotel was able to accommodate without fuss. However, as I was departing, I asked again (different staff member) to switch to a nonsmoking room for my colleague, and was told that I was already in a nonsmoking room. Hmm... if that is the case, why was this not what I was told when I asked right after I checked in? Later that day I called to confirm that they knew someone else will be checking in for the room again, and to make sure that the room will get cleaned by housekeeping. I was informed that yes, they are cleaning it, but that the sheets were not there. Not sure what that meant, though there aren't a lot of ways to interpret that statement... so I tried to get some clarification, and told her that the sheets were not removed, so they are there on the bed. She repeated that housekeeping could not find the sheets, so I repeated that the sheets are there. Well whatever, as long as the room was cleaned. Not sure what she was even trying to imply... one of the weirdest things I've ever heard. Their redeeming quality is the free shuttle amenity. They kindly set up a daily schedule to and from the convention center for the huge international show that was taking place.

Yelp
This place sucks, I got tricked by fake reviews and paid for a 3 day stay in advance.. The room stinks, bathroom is moldy, furniture is outdated and the staff is so unprofessional. Honestly looks like this is a place to bring hookers. I'm actually pretty sure I saw one walking the parking lot a few times. I mean if u don't care and you are just looking for a place to sleep it's fine. But it's by far no 3 star hotel. Won't ever come back and don't recommend it unless you really just don't have the money

Yasmine R.

Yelp
Absolutely the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. The stairs to our room are about 6 inches deep so you feel like you're gonna fall the whole time, there is a deep crack above our door so nothing said in the room is withheld from the hallway, we were asked for a king bed room and they gave us 2 double beds, there light above the sink (outside the bathroom) doesn't work so if anyone needed to get ready for something important they would not be able to see themselves, and it's dirty. Really the biggest issue is the crack above the door though. Privacy in a hotel room is important to anyone and it made us feel like we couldn't talk at all since our whole conversation could be heard outside. Do not stay here! Also, they say free wifi but there's no wifi available when selecting one for this hotel. Only good thing about this place is free parking in a good location

Marlene E.

Yelp
After some consideration and a certificate for one free night at any LaQuinta (some restrictions may apply), I'm adding a follow-up due to Mr. Eugene Baldwin, Manager at Chicago Lake Shore Hotel response to my review at TripAdvisor. I believe it borders on belittling and aggressive tactics; it appears as though management at Chicago Lake Shore Hotel may be guilty of gender discrimination. Consider yourselves warned ladies; this may not be a good location for a girl's weekend. I did contact LaQuinta before writing my reviews. 214gene, Manager at Chicago Lake Shore Hotel, responded to this review, yesterday (7/3/15) "Thank you for your review. There are plenty of non-seafood options at the so-called seafood buffet., from beef and chicken dishes to salads and desserts. Bars are loud. What can we say? The rooms are being renovated--not soon enough for you." The menu at Chicago Lake Shore Café does not specify there are more choices on the buffet than seafood. It is billed as the Seafood Buffet, not the "So-called Seafood Buffet". That's the Friday night offering in the café, patrons cannot order off the menu. It is painfully obvious that Mr. Baldwin's forte is not food service; otherwise he would understand dietary restrictions and cross condemnation concerns. "As to bars are loud. What can we say?" - the last two available tables were in front of an audio system (aka boombox), which had been placed on a table. He did not address the server's attitude or the fact that a reunion was in progress or the bar was not well stocked for the weekend events. Obviously management believes it is ok to charge full price for rooms that lack amenities due to renovations. Renovations are not mentioned on any booking sites; one must read the reviews to find out that little gem. Again no apology for lack of security on doors or lighting or gnats in a room. As to renovating, that's not my problem; I paid for a room that should have been completed.

Yelp
The hotel was under construction when we got there, but for $120 a night, I was perfectly happy. The rooms weren't amazing luxurious, but I for a place to sleep and rest, they were just fine. The staff was friendly, helpful, and the free shuttle was an added bonus. They say there is a bus stop two blocks away, but I swear it was more like five. Still not a big deal. There is a Metra stop nearby as well. Cabs were only about $20 from downtown Chicago.

Steven H.

Yelp
Hotel run down. Most areas half fixed. Stayed here last week. July 15 - 17th 2014 Room looks good and beds are clean. Most furniture in this renovated room is scratched. But major issue was to have no toilet paper or even DISPENSER for the three days I stayed. (they gave me a roll on day 2) Room guest next door said the same thing. Toilet seat had a missing bolt that was reported on day one but not fixed until day three (but seat still loose) Carpet has no padding underneath. Went to the La Quinta next and it was at least twice as nice for only $80 per night. Front Desk Staff was nice but overworked. Hotel Impossible needs to stop by for a chat with the owners. This could be worth the price if the owners stepped it up.

Kevin C.

Yelp
Terrible experience. Not what I expected. The iron caught fire, completely shocked me and burned my finger. Look like they are renovating, but rooms are dirty, old and smell like mold. Good luck in asking for a first aid kit as well. They don't have one at the front desk, but at least they do have an old, junk snack machine. Suggest not to leave your bag at front desk. They will place your stuff in the room behind the front desk, which looks like a dirty garage and if you do, please double check and confirm all your personal valuables are still inside. My watches and jewelry magically grew legs and ran off! Manager has not returned any of my calls. The only nice thing I would have to say is the lake view and little restaurant located in the back serves good food. It takes a bit, but only because it's not pre cooked and made fresh. Great cafe but crappy hotel.

Yelp
My beautiful wife and I were in the beautiful city of Chicago for our Goddaughter's wedding. We wanted lodging that was reasonably priced (Chicago lodging is pricey) and located near our Goddaughter's apartment. We did Our research before making a decision. We learned that LaQuinta was next door but went with Chicago Lake Shore Hotel. We were satisfied with the price and very pleased with the location, as it was walking distance to our Goddaughter. The front desk staff were pleasant and professional. Our room was clean and everything (AC, phone, lights, & iron) worked properly. We ate at the breakfast buffet twice and were fine with the menu and service. The Highlight for Our stay was the Free Shuttle. On Saturday (08/27), we took the 11:30AM shuttle to downtown Chicago. We were Very Impressed with the shuttle driver--Mr. Joe B. He got us to our destination safely. The Unexpected Bonus was Mr. Joe's Educational and Informative Presentation of Chicago. Mr. Joe B. picked Us up after Three Fantastic Hours in Downtown Chicago. We were the only ones to ride the shuttle returning back to the Chicago Lake Shore Hotel. The Return Ride Was Better! Mr. Joe B. said that we were ahead of schedule. He gave Us A Brief but Excellent Tour of President Obama's Home, The Late Great Muhammad Ali's Chicago Home, the Harold Washington Cultural Center, the infamous Leopold & Loeb residences, & other places along the return route. Well Done Mr. Joe B. I hope Mr. Joe B's employers read this review & I will be making contact with them, too. We will return to the Beautiful City of Chicago many many more times!

Yelp
Before you read the rest of this review I want you to understand one thing...I had a reservation here, and after looking at the property we canceled it and rebooked downtown. So we never actually stayed here...there were too many red flags. 1- the logo looks like its advertising for a campground and should have raised questions before we even got there. 2- we were legitimately the ONLY car in the parking lot when we arrived. Not knowing much about the city, but knowing enough to know there are "rough parts", this was alarming to us. When we asked to check in a little early, they told us to come back in 2 hours as they didn't have a room ready (the cleaning staff was standing next to the counter doing nothing). The only reason I give this even the one star is because the girl at the desk was extremely nice, albeit not very helpful. 3- the door numbers are pieces of printer paper TAPED onto the doors. My biggest fault with this property is its marketed as a 3 star hotel. The manager did agree not to charge us for the night, but given that we had booked ahead of time and it was supposed to be non refundable, this leads me to believe that this isn't the first time this has happened. It's no more than a motel. It appears run down from the outside and looks like it belongs in a horror movie where people disappear, not in the listings of 3 star resorts. If you're in Chicago do yourself a favor and pay a little more to stay downtown, you won't regret it.

Yelp
This was a horrible experience. I WISH I had read the Yelp reviews before I booked this MOTEL (not a hotel)! Instead I relied on the Kayak reviews since that was how I made the reservation and the pictures on the website. The difference between how the hotel was advertised online and how it actually was in person was RIDICULOUS. The photos of the rooms and amenities online for the hotel are NOT accurate, the hotel itself was under construction and was dirty, loud, and there was trash everywhere. The front desk staff was rude, and we had to step underneath dangerous, unsupported scaffolding in order to enter the room turned makeshift office, which itself was dirty and unprofessional. Not ONE aspect of the hotel was anything like I expected based on the online pictures and information. Even for $100 a night through Kayak, this was an AWFUL deal. This motel is MAYBE worth $30/night. Going to be contacting Kayak customer service for a refund.

Yelp
Terrible Management -- Fetid Conditions We arrived in Chicago on June 12 for a two-night stay at the Chicago Lakeshore Hotel after making reservations in early January. Far from being placed in "a spacious guest room" with "breathtaking views overlooking magnificent Lake Michigan," as the hotel misleadingly claims on its website, we were housed in a fetid, musty room on the ground floor of a building that was under construction. Ants crawled on the wall and the walkway was so flooded that it seemed like Lake Michigan was lapping at our door. We had reserved a double bed, smoke free room and, in an unsavory bait and switch tactic, we were offered a smoke-filled, ground floor room, with a king size bed. The hotel worker made no mention of this downgrade, clearly hoping that it would go unnoticed or that we would not challenge it. When we protested, we were simply placed in another ground floor room which, except for the smell of smoke, was equally malodorous. As all the hotels near the University of Chicago were fully booked because of the University's graduation ceremony on June 13, we had no choice but to stay at what is, at best, a shockingly run-down motel. If you want to enjoy your stay in Chicago, stay clear of the Chicago Lakeshore Hotel!

Yelp
Overall a great experience here. We traveled to Chicago on 10/05/2015 with my husband and two infant kids, ages 2 and 1. We read the reviews before booking and decided to still give it a shot. For $90 a night, we figured it was worth it. We arrived at 2 am in the morning and were told our reservation wasn't in their system. We called Orbitz, which was our booking agency to see what the problem was. They contacted the hotel and the hotel was more than helpful in helping us with our stay. With two infants at 2 am, we were more than grateful for that. The hotel wasn't so much a hotel as it was a motel. You still walk outside to get to your room, but with beautiful weather and a nice scenery we couldn't complain. We stayed in a double bed room which was clean and had everything you need up and running. The water for showers were nice and hot. At one point it got so hot, the fire alarm went off. Which to us is a perfect shower. Location was perfect to the train stop which was a 10 minute walk and a 15 minute ride to downtown. The hotel however did offer free shuttles to downtown which was perfect. They arrived at 930 am and pick up was at 7:10pm from downtown. For a great price and great amenities, the lake shore hotel was well worth our stay. Would definitely recommend it.

Yelp
So I got this room off from Priceline for 70.00 regular rate is 160.00 on the weekends. 1st its a motel. NOT a hotel. 2nd their pool is outdoor and obviously not used in the winter. Arriving at the hotel I didn't even want to check in but it was midnight and everything else in the area is booked. Lot and walk way we're icy and not cleared properly. The hotel office. Omg its a ripped up hotel room and a big sign of disaster. We get our room in the first floor (note if your handicapped using a wheel chair there are steps into the buildings from the road). It's got a newer 40" flat screen tv but everything else looks like you just walked into a room that was decorated in the 50's. The toliet and the toliet paper dispenser are a big distance away from each other. The bed and sheets appear to be clean. Lots of pillows on the bed. Room has a blow dryer and small coffee pot. I see this room as being more of a 50.00 room
