This Barcelona Hotel Blurs the Lines Between Past and Present - Hotels Above Par - Boutique Hotels & Travel

"Housed in a former small palace that later became a school, this four-star boutique reinvents historic architecture while preserving its original framework and aims for a subtly seductive atmosphere. Dark hallways are lit by multi-colored room-number lights and long beaded curtains, which also appear inside the minimalist guest rooms that feature floor-to-ceiling mirrors, large beds with crisp white linens, and LED lighting controllable by remote; several rooms have balconies overlooking the bustling El Born streets and the greenery lining Carrer de la Princesa. Bathrooms are private but not always concealed—some rooms showcase crystal showers placed in the middle of the chamber. The property doubles as a local gathering spot: an all-day café and bar serves buffet breakfast and coffee, cocktails, and tapas from noon to midnight, and nearby residents now frequently share the communal spaces after initial skepticism about the hotel’s provocative design. A dedicated community floor balances white walls and marble floors with black leather sofas and lamps and offers self-service “Helpyourself” drinks, a quiet “Beyourself” area, and a “Loveyourself” room for fitness. The small property has 31 rooms across several categories, positions itself as a sleek, sexy hideaway in El Born, and lists room rates beginning around $109/night."

The hotel is in an old refurbished (office?) building. The rooms are a bit “different” then in regular hotels: very high ceilings, coloured lights at the ceiling, a very big bathroom with traces of old water connections. The room didn’t look clean and the lightswitches especially in the bathroom were very dirty. Nespresso coffee machine was very nice. Location is good. Girls in the reception were very friendly and helpful.

We had a wonderful stay here! The location is perfect — central yet quiet, just steps from the charming El Born district. The hotel is clean, stylish, and absolutely dog-friendly, which made traveling with our pup so easy. What touched us most was the hospitality: we had 3 hours to spare before our train and were welcomed to rest in the lobby without any pressure. The staff were warm, helpful, and truly made us feel at home. Great value for the price. Highly recommend — especially for travelers with dogs or anyone looking for a relaxed, well-located stay in Barcelona.

Would NOT recommend staying here. My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights. On the second day, I noticed ants crawling all over the bathroom. It was awful. We got upgraded to a different room but I have NEVER experienced ants in a hotel before, it was unacceptable. The rooms are not nice and the decor is extremely tacky. The noise was absolutely crazy, sounded like there was a bar or restaurant above us. It was like people were moving furniture and jumping around upstairs all night and in the morning. We didn’t get a wink of sleep. Will not be coming back to this hotel ever again, it’s a rip off and not worth the money. The only positive was that the location was good.

I had a bad experience here. I got to my room and immediately knew it wasn't the right fit for me. The dark, somewhat clubby/bar vibe, not to mention the cockroach and rat (seriously). It just wasn't for me. I told them that it just wasn't the right vibe for me and I felt out of place , and that I made a mistake and would like to stay somewhere else, but I would be happy to pay for the night of course. I had five minutes earlier paid for five (again, my mistake) but they said they would not refund me and literally said that was my problem. Technically, it was, so I understand, but I was surprised they were so unwilling to help, and it made me feel like I had fallen into a trap. I ended up moving to the Hotel Praktik Rambla, for not much more (20-30 euro more per night), and couldn't believe the difference. It was wonderful. I highly recommend the Hotel Praktik Rambla.

I have mixed feelings. The location is great and the bed was comfortable. I was able to walk everywhere I wanted to go, and there are nice cafes and casual restaurants nearby. But the design leaves a lot to be desired. There was no closet, just a hanging rail with a couple of small drawers underneath. There were no hooks to hang towels. Horrible colored flashing lights around the room that served no purpose I could think of. Worst of all, taking a shower was a safety hazard. You had to walk down two steps to get to the shower area, then up a step to get into the shower. Because of the step, there was nowhere to put the bathmat and you had to step out with wet feet to try and reach a towel. I was afraid of slipping. Some of the common areas were quite nice, with coffee machines and water dispenser. But the plastic fringe curtains around the doors to each room - what were they thinking!

Really amazing location, funky and modern design/concept, and rooms are pretty big! The balconies were lovely. Walkable to everything and right on the edge of Born. Kept our luggages after checkout, Would definitely stay here again!

Location is great, rooms are fine. But they send another guest into my room at 2.30 am, that ruined pretty much the night. So i have reported this in the morning and they did nothing, also i sent an email about it, but no reaction. Will not return.

I checked in around 11pm and was immediately hit by an overpowering smell of paint fumes in the room. On top of that, the air conditioning wasn’t working. When I raised this with reception, they casually mentioned that some parquet work had been done, which “might” explain the fumes, and that air conditioning isn’t available during the spring months. They also told me no one else had complained, and suggested I simply open the balcony door to ventilate — offering no real solution or assistance. I asked to be moved to another room, even a lower-tier one, but was told there was no availability. Unfortunately, keeping the balcony open all night wasn’t an option due to noise from the street and foot traffic below — and it did little to remove the lingering fumes anyway. I asked to cancel and check out immediately, but was initially only offered a partial refund. After insisting that the situation was unacceptable, they finally agreed to issue a full refund. The room was completely inhospitable, and the customer service was dismissive and unhelpful throughout. I would strongly advise against staying here.
