chic&basic Tallers Hostel

Pros: Location, cleanliness, helpful staff, 24h. kitchen area with unlimited coffee and sandwiches. That was nice. The receptionist were helpful in many ways, like creating the invoice, lending us an iron and granting a storage space on the check out. Check-in could have been quicker though. Cons: The price and the room. I payed 160 euros per night, which is shocking for how small the room is and that technically is not a hotel but a pension. It seems that the place used to be an apartment in which each space was converted to a room. Where the closet used to be they added a toilet and a shower, but the sink they placed it on the opposite side of room. Very weird distribution. I would still repeat if the price is lowered.

Awful, coffin-like room. The rooms are actually one wing of one floor in a residential building (they've basically made cubicles inside an apartment unit). You have to check in and out at their other hotel around the corner. I needed the room for one night, so I thought I wouldn't mind it being small. But this was claustrophobically small, with a big AC that you couldn't turn off. I ended up with a cold and sore throat after just one night. There was a window, but it opened to a small, smelly shaft in the middle of the building. Even with the window closed, you could hear the neighbors. I am usually a good sleeper so I could sleep through noise with the window closed. I tried to increase the temperature on the AC, but it started to smell really bad. The only good thing I can say about this place is that the sheets and the toilet were clean. The "included" breakfast was the cheapest bread, leathery cheese, and the common butter and jam cubes. They just inflate the price because they put stupid dad jokes like "I see you naked" on the shower bottles, and include a tote bag and thin slippers. Oh, and your coffin has colorful LED backlights. Apparently, this is cool and chic and worth the price.

Found parasites in my drinking water that was provided by the hostal. Did not receive a refund.

A bit noisy and bathroom looks like a ToiToi, But location is amazing, breakfast is nice and the room is nice and clean. Beds are comfortable, But they are seperate not double-sized.

Hotel was OK but smelt of cigarette smoke. We only stayed for 1 night which is why it was manageable. Location was really good and staff were really friendly and helpful. The remote to the aircon was not working and came on late in the evening which we couldn't turn off. The room would benefit from a small bedside table. The breakfast we didn't eat as all the cereals were empty with few crumbs at the bottom. It's a shame as this could have been so nice. The sister hotel Chic and Basic lemon where we collected our keys looked lovely.

Pros: - Very central location - Air conditioning is adjustable and works - Friendly cleaning staff and reception staff at Lemon Cons - Key cards are faulty / There is no reception and the reception desk at Lemon hotel two blocks away closes at 6pm. Therefore, when my key card failed to work at 7pm, I had to walk to another hotel where the receptionist gave me two new key cards, both of which did not work either. After walking back and forth twice, the receptionist came back to Tallers with me and funnily her employee key card did not work either. There seems to be a total lack of organization within the business because she had no idea what to do and I feel like the company should have prepared her for this situation, especially after reading other reviews that mention their key cards not working. She told me that I might have to wait an indefinite period of time for a technician to come and let me in. Fortunately the problem was solved when I tried tapping my key card one more time and she literally body slammed / kicked the door open. - Room could be cleaner. There were stains on the bedsheets and mold in the shower. - The “bathroom” is literally the size of an airplane bathroom with a shower inside it. It was functional and got the job done but offers absolutely no privacy because its basically in a closet right next to the bed. When you shower, water also leaks from underneath the door and onto the floor next to the bed. Overall, wouldn’t recommend this hotel. However, if you are a solo traveller who prioritizes location for a 1-2 day stay, it’s good enough.

As the name says it's very basic A very very small room with no place to work at all. It is good just to sleep. There is a common space though that can be used for working if needed. Location is great, just off plaza Catalunya, la rambla and gothic quarter. The breakfast is self service. It is quite equipped and well stocked but there is not more than coffee bread ham and cheese, marmalade and cereals. Overall it is recommended if you are looking for a place just to sleep On the expensive side The reception is in another nearby building. The staff is very nice and friendly.

The place overall is alright. |Our room was nr 4 which is in a corner therefore doesn’t have a balcony like some of the other rooms. ||The room was clean. It is really small so don’t stay there longer than some nights. |The toilet is not properly separated from the room. All in all it was alright for 4 nights. ||The offered breakfast is quite basic. We skipped it and went to some of the awesome bakeries in the Tallers street. The location is an absolute plus!

Great rooms, amenities and lovely staff. Free wifi! Great value for money. Extremely central. Would definitely come back and recommend to friends. Thank you Chic & Basic for an amazing weekend in Barcelona. :)
