Chicha por Gaston Acurio

We had a great time at Chicha twice. The service was really nice and English was not an issue at all, they even kindly asked for our preference beforehand. Jaime really made it a great dinner experience, with perfect recommendations and surprises, as well as some lovely chats. Would always come back when in Arequipa. The Shrimps are amazing, the duck was also very good. Try the alpaca carpaccio if you’re curious. The chocolate sweets we had were outstanding! We felt the value you got for the money was good, since some seem to critique it, although we are only travelers.

First time trying Chicha when I was in Cusco, and they serve really good food. Then turns out they have another branch at arequipa. Their Cuy pequines was amazing. Cuy chactado also good. Love their tortita too. Will definitely come back if I had a chance travelling to Peru again.

Beautiful, airy setting and delicious food. Was recommended by our Airbnb host and it didn’t disappoint. We had: - Cuy Pequenes which was on the tasting menu but available a la cart, a yummy bite. - Chupe de camarones, very creamy and probably the best version I had on our trip. - Duck, which had a Thai curry flair which was also delicious. The tasting menu also looked delicious, but pricey by Peru standards, around S/290 for the dinner and with wine pairing around S/375.

Absolutely one of the best restaurants you can find...not just in Arequipa but around the world. Absolutely amazing food and service! Will definitely be back everytime I am in the area. We came 3 nights in a row during the Perumin expo when they were extremely busy. Despite the packed restaurant the service was excellent each night and the food was divine. Each dish has a unique flavor and is presented beautifully on the plate. Don't miss the opportunity to try this restaurant.

I was excited about adding another Gaston Acurio restaurant on my list but the service at this establishment left it to the floor! Worst experience I’ve ever had at a Gaston Acurio restaurant. Attempted to begin my night with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc but it was served room according to the waiter it’s cold outside so Peruvian’s drink their white & sparkling room temperature. Terrible service & super rude unnecessary response. So switch for a glass of their Spanish Red Wine. Orders appetizers (Corvina Ceviche exquisite) and 2 entree (Lomo Saltado & Noodles with Steak) which were very good but not amazing! Service all night went from horrible to not wanting to visit ever again. I think we tolerated since everything was packed, I had made this reservation 2 months prior visit & we were just tired overall from tours.

Unfortunately, despite much fanfare about this place, the food experience was way below the expectation. We were four persons and none of us thought their dishes were anything to write home about. Carpaccio was swimming in oil but did not have any taste. Arros with langustines and the tortellinis were swimming in sauce, while de crispy duck option was below anything you could get at a medium quality chinese restaurant. The sweets were good. We had dined at Astrid & Gaston in Lima which was a truly superb experience, but Arequipa Chicha was a disillusionment. Add to that a seriously high price, I give them one star.

The food was delicious! Even bread was amazing. If you are not confident with Spanish, you might want to coordinate with them to get an English speaking server assigned. I had a challenge with communication with my server who doesn't speak English at all - which is fair though because we're in Peru... But there were many English speaking staff, so I believe they can offer help if you ask. That said, everyone was nice and I enjoyed the experience.

Hands down the best food I’ve had in Peru. I had the duck curry and it was absolutely phenomenal. The portion sizes are very generous, including the chicha morada which was the size of my head. You must come here if you’re in Arequipa !
