"Chico's Mexican & American Restaurant, South Bend by West.SB. A West side breakfast and lunch taqueria founded by Federico Rodriguez Jr., a latino businessman and volunteer firefighter. Chico’s is located near the corner of Western Avenue and Olive Street along a corridor that has become emblematic of South Bend’s resurgence. Their Carne Guidada pork stew, served with rice, beans and tortillas, is the move."

Had a 7 o'clock reservation arrived at 7:04 got sat immediately wasn't very busy at all. Sat and sat for 20 minutes before being greeted. Ordered our food it came out great. Food was fantastic service was good after they forgot about us being there. Paella was awesome. And the potatoes were great.

One of the best places in the city to get Mexican food. It is always hot & made to order. Chico is a local legend in South Bend and he is always willing to take the next customer with a warm smile. This place is by far the best it gets here in South Bend. If you want friendly, compassionate, and great service. Look no further

Google
Great little Mexican/American restaurant with a quaint "diner" feel to it. Staff is super friendly and attentive. Food is good and always hot & fresh. I can order breakfast or lunch at any time. Conveniently located. Overall great little spot for any meal.

On a Sunday morning my son and I were on the west side looking for a traditional chorizo and egg breakfast, and of course 'papas', and we came across "Chico's". It's a quaint little place operated by three, gracious and attentive staff. We were both surprised and pleased with their traditional fare...neither fancy or overseasoned, but the 'heat' was available. Please, don't go in expecting 'Tex-Mex", as this a home-cooking fare. Our plates arrived with scrambled eggs and chorizo, diced potatoes, beans, rice and three tortillas...all, for $10.50. While awaiting our food, we munched on the complimentary chips and salsa, and well brewed cups of coffee. They are open until mid-afternoon, so don't arrive later expecting dinner. For my son and I, we shall make the drive from Granger to the west side often. We recommend you try their hospitality.

Google
Very nice local Hispanic restaurant with specialties from the Aguas Calientes region of Mexico. Menu is meat heavy which is why I only give it 4 stars. Really enjoyed my chilaquiles and appreciated the photos of historic South Bend fires in the back (the owner is a long time firefighter)

we went to a baby doctor appointment because i am exactly 6 months today and the doctor appointment wasn’t actually until 1:30 pm so We we’re looking for some spanish food and we came across Chicos. We looked at the menu to order, they have limited selection on menu, and they charge chips and salsa separately. you think if you’re paying 12 dollars for 3 tacos only you’d get chips and salsa. we will not be back, we have visited a lot of spanish places to eat and this one is the FIRST out of many that does not offer chips and salsa with the meals to purchase. Kinda disappointing. was looking forward to eating chips and salsa. Guess this place is scratched off the list of places to eat in south bend. Would not recommend due to pricing, location and no chips and salsa.

Yelp
Chico's is a local Mexican restaurant that has been on the west side for years. We came in for brunch on Sunday. My wife got Beef cheek platter and I got chorizo tacos and a tamale. The staff is very friendly and we received many refills on our drinks. There is limited seating so make sure you be ready for a little wait-but it is worth it. The homemade salsa/picante is has a sweet tomato flavor with a hint of heat. Perfect balance for people that don't like super spicy. If you want home made Mexican food that feels like it came from your aunts house this is the place. The beef cheek tacos were outstanding. Tender Smokey and rich. The tamales was light and fluffy, the flauta was hot and crispy. The egg chorizo tacos were spectacular. The pinto beans were Rich and creamy and the rice was soft and perfect. I would most definitely recommend coming to this quite restaurant for Sunday brunch. You will not regret it.

Yelp
This is such a sweet restaurant, with absolutely incredible service and kind hosts. We brought a group of 16 in, and they were very accommodating and truly welcomed us in as if we were friends and family. If you are looking to support a truly lovely family and an amazing community, look no further than Chico's. On top of their welcoming nature and environment, the food was delicious, with great portion sizes. We were very hungry going in, and we all felt great afterwards. Thank you so much to the owners for the welcome and the delicious food!!!

Yelp
Chico's is the Mex-American breakfast and lunch diner behind the famous mural at Olive and Western on SB's Westside. It was called Irene's for nearly 50 years before Francisco, SBFD, got ahold of it to add Mexican flare to the standard gringo grill fare of it's Polish past. Irenes ancient Jesus and Mary prints are not accompanied by Our Lady of Guadalupe and other Mexican saints. The place is pretty standard Westside until you grasp the power of the Mexican breakfast. Huevos Rancheros with lightly spiced grill potatoes on the side are fantastic, packed with flavor, but not too heavy. Chorizo con huevos will knock your socks off! There is nothing bland or dull about Mexican morning eats. I've noticed it hasn't been too busy lately, so there's no waiting. Angelica, Francisco's better half, offers attentive and friendly service. Open early a.m. to 2pm.
