I had Chicos one time and it was 5 years ago. I just had it twice in one week and I can say the sauce did not taste the same as. My wife is from EPT and she’s had it all her life and she can testify that the sauce is not what it used to be.

First time visiting Chico's Taco, it was recommended by a family member and I have to say it was delicious. I ordered their specialty, Chico's Taco single order, the sauce was simple but flavorful. Customer service was great.

Stopped by for a quick lunch while visiting El Paso. It's an El Paso staple and recommended as a local fast food icon. It's cash only, but there's an ATM onsite. Simple menu consisting of their special flautas, hot dog in a hamburger bun, and hamburgers. Ordered at the register and our order was ready within 10 minutes. Food is a unique El Paso experience and was worth the visit.

Google
Extremely cheap prices and decent food. CASH ONLY! Rolled tacos were not my favorite but decent. For me, the taco meat needs more seasoning and flavor. However, the green salsas help with flavor and the bowl of sauce on the tacos. I couldn't believe the fish sandwich cost $2.52 They do have an ATM machine inside because it's cash only. It's quick service. Place your order and wait on your number to be called. The establishment is Ole School.

All my reviews are based solely on the food flavor experience. However, Chicos Tacos is unique among all my reviews because the place holds a special place in my childhood memories. Therefore, I have a bias that definitely influences my experience. My grandpa would bring me and my brother to Chicos throughout our childhood and they were the happiest times spent with him. I remember us chanting "Chicos, Chicos, Chicos!" and we would jump into his truck and we would be off to get those tacos. On my most recent visit to El Paso, we were preparing to celebrate my grandpa's 90th birthday! So that first day I was back in town, I asked if he wanted to go to Chicos and so we did. Of course I ordered a ton so I could experience it fully, i.e. tacos, french fries, sodas, and of course hotdogs. Now for my honest review....Chicos is not the same as it was 15 years ago when I moved away. I heard similar comments from family who still live in El Paso. I know the cheese supplier changed and the hotdogs are not the same as they once were. I remember them being those large red ones that packed alot of flavor. Sadly, the food flavors were not the same. However, they were not bad.....just not the same. I still ate at least 20 tacos, two items of fries, and an entire hotdog. I will still visit Chicos and have a grand ol time next time I am in town. But for new visitors, you will hear Chicos is the greatest, but it really isn't. It is good food that brings back all the childhood memories of all El Paso residents. It's that happy memory we all have that makes the food seem better than it really is. But that is totally ok. Memories and food go together to create the full experience. So thank you Chicos for being a part of my childhood and I will always pay you a visit when I am in town. Just quick suggestion....give us more salsa with our orders. That's all.

Google
If there was a “Chico” that started this business 70 years ago.. I bet he would hate what his restaurant serves its customers today. This isn’t normal El Paso food and hospitality. This is, “we’ve been here for 70 years and we can serve you whatever we want at this point”. Turning into McDonalds, good job.

Miguel Montiel

Google
Very good, local hotspot, for mood food. Their iced-tea is delicious as well.

Brandon Kislenger

Google
Chico's is what it is and what it's always been. An acquired taste that you love, or don't... I personally love it. No frills dining room. Cash only. And unfortunately the prices area lot higher than they used to be - but not unreasonable compared to everything else nowadays.

Paul B.

Yelp
Fantastic -- I am SO COMING BACK here!! They serve a chili dog on a hamburger bun..... much better than it sounds, I promise!! Great chili sauce, served with super spicy green sauce (on the side).

Christopher A.

Yelp
You have to be from El Paso to understand. This is comfort food. If you didn't grow up with it you won't like it. When I come home this is a must stop everytime. #elpasostrong

Yelp
Service was friendly and fast. I had the tacos and the beef stew burrito. This place isn't my cup of tea. Nothing bad to say but not my flavor profile. It was worth coming just as a check off the El Paso foodie list but that's not my jam. I really don't see the hype but to each their own. I reccomend trying it if you have never been. Ambiance was your usual hole in the wall type joint. No frills. My table was dirty but when you walk in, you're not expecting much.

Ally H.

Yelp
5/5 stars for crappy Mexican food! Honestly, you know when you walk in that it won't be 5 star food. For cheap, delicious junk food, it's 5 stars! Cash only, so be prepared. Once you order the food comes out hot and fast.

Robert K.

Yelp
Oh yea this place is good. The 3 little tacos are like taquitos. Really good runny enchilada sauce on them with cheese on top served with crispy French fries. This place has been there forever and there's a good reason why. It was pretty busy too for a Tuesday afternoon. I will have to come back here again.,

Michael S.

Yelp
Let me start by saying that I'm from San Diego. We've got Mexican food of all ranges there: up-scale and casual, corporate and mom and pops, long-established and up-and-coming. This place ain't sexy but it's got that good warm feel to it and the food makes you feel right at home. Kinda takes you back a few decades when you eat there: cash only, old menus, worn down but clean tables, friendly staff. It's not for everyone but it was for my family and me when we went.

Lulu O.

Yelp
Happy and satisfied! The taquitos in caldito, beef stew burrito both were delicious. Workers were very sweet. The place is a little run down but clean.

Mike V.

Yelp
Since I happened to be passing through El Paso, I thought I'd check out this iconic place that's been the latest rage on social media. I ordered the regular order of "tacos" which are actually rolled tacos or taquitos as one would normally call them. They come in a mild tomato sauce and packed with shredded cheese. I LOVE rolled tacos!! This combination was awesome. However, you do have to eat them fast if you don't want soggy taquitos. I contemplated ordering them separately from the sauce but really wanted to try it the OG way. I also ordered a side of crinkle cut French fries which were pretty good. One order my table got was cold, and soggy, but the other one hot and crispy. Someone in my group ordered a cheeseburger and raved how good it was! This place is cash only and they have an atm for your convenience if you forget. Oh, I almost forgot the best part........ They give you a spicy green sauce in soufflé cups when you get your food. You're gonna want to get extra of that sauce! I poured it all over my food and it made a huge difference! Soooo good!

Gracie A.

Yelp
Too expensive for the quality of food. It is hit or miss and mostly miss. Don't like that they only take cash. Why could that be?

Michaela P.

Yelp
There's a reason why I only come here after 2 am... People either love or hate Chico's Tacos. I'm slightly ashamed of my mad crush. Is this the best food in town? Nope. Does it hit the spot after a night on the town? Yep. If you don't like your $3 flautas drowned in spicy tomato soup and gov't chz, get a burger. They're also 3 bucks. Always friendly service. It's clean. It's inexpensive. And you can sit in the parking lot and watch the low riders cruise by the "NO CRUISING" signs.

Pastor David H.

Yelp
The hand rolled taquitos are amazing. The hamburgers are as good as mcdonalds. They charge for refills on drink. The service was mediocre. The woman who took our order was miserable, there order taking system is horrible and there is no direction.

Sue S.

Yelp
The persons working for there right now at Sunday September 15 at 6:06 PM is a male and he did not wanted to cancel one fries order. He said he couldn't cancel the transaction because I didn't have enough cash on hand and said he couldn't. I had to leave since he didn't want to serve me. This please is so getto from top to bottom.

Susy A.

Yelp
Interesting concept... 1st time for my flautas in salsa sauce... Prefer my salsa to be in the side n my flautas to stay crunchy... Overall good enough.. service is great... I would rather like to have an option to put my flautas in sauce

Jacob O.

Yelp
Chicos tacos more like chicos cacas. This is the worst Mexican food I have had in El Paso I am a white man and I think I could make better food. The name of the place is chicos TACOS but they serve you Flautas cacas no flavor like eating dirt in a shell.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
Been decades since I've been here! Visiting for a few days and had to stop here. Quick ordering service, place is clean and I always loved the fries here. The tacos don't taste the same from what I recall but still good and salsa was very good. I've satisfied my craving for chicos tacos!

Ruben M.

Yelp
Went there after I moved back to El Paso. Used to come here when in high school. This used to be a hidden gem, not anymore. Their jumbo hot dogs have shrunk in size. Their tacos are now a shadow of what they used to be. Their sauce sucks now and they put so little...oh, and over $4 for an oder of 3. Unreal, will never return.

That One G.

Yelp
Not sure why this place has semi good/bad reviews but to my taste I like coming here. It was brought to my attention when 'Fluffy' suggested this place & of course I had to give it a try. Not disappointed! Customer service was good, the food was good. The only thing I wasn't a fond of is that it is cash only. They do have an ATM but I would suggest being prepared with ca$h. Definitely a little spot to try if coming down to El Paso.

Rick D.

Yelp
Love this place. Bring cash. What they call tacos are ready tocitoes. Or rolled tacos. Love them, they pour a tomato hot sauce and pile cheese on top. This is a El Paso favorite. If your ever in El Paso you have to try this place.

William E.

Yelp
Chicos tacos has been around for a long time. All of the restaurants used to be good however since the new stores opened and the old ones were closed, they just don't taste the same as they used to. Probably the best one in town is the one on Alameda and the second is Dyer street. The rolled tacos and the hot dog are the best in town for the price.

betty b.

Yelp
Very disappointed in this place. I wanted to like them, but just couldn't! The rolled up tacos are hard and stale tasting. Don't know what the big hype is, people giving the good reviews obviously don't t know the difference between good taquitos made with fresh tortillas and the really bad ones served at Chicos Tacos.

Frank N.

Yelp
I havent been home in along time dont taste the same as I was a kid but still a must get when i come here.

Marissa O.

Yelp
I just don't understand the hype!... I'm from California and I've seen this place on one of those food shows. Was recently in El Paso with the family and my brother insisted that I had to try it. He loved it, I didn't. It's world famous so if you're in the area, I would suggest giving it a try for yourself. Maybe it's me I'm giving 3 stars because it wasn't bad, just not for me. Staff is friendly - security takes his job really serious though.

Leslie B.

Yelp
I used to love Chico's because it was a good bang for the buck and it was tasty. Then they changed their cheese. Grrr, but ok they get a pass because it was the supplier who wouldn't carry it anymore. The replacement cheese is meh. Now, they've jacked up prices to where a double is almost $7, and that's NOT with extra cheese. Cash only still. The meat has not been prepared like it used to either. Even at crowded times, the meat is hard like it's been sitting awhile. So, in a nutshell prices are spiking and quality is dipping. I'm not even gonna mention lack of customer service lately. Drop your prices Chico's, I need some type of incentive.

Christopher G.

Yelp
Due to COVID, face masks are required. NO MASK, NO SERVICE. Also, it's CASH ONLY, with no atm inside. Chico's is an El Paso tradition since 1950. Anyone who lives in El Paso knows it/loves it; tourists and out of towners can have mixed reviews. But the staple items to order are the Rolled Tacos and Grilled Cheese! TIP for eating inside: order the taco's sauce on the side, that way the tacos aren't soggy by the time you receive your food and sit down.

Alberto S.

Yelp
Food is not like the old days. Trying to save money by using low end ingredients ends up with low revenues and reviews

John D.

Yelp
Tried the tacos because of the local word of mouth reviews. First off- they are mini flautas, not tacos. I mean, I get it. Everyone has their local spin on things and it catches on. Don't get me wrong they're not inedible. But a fried mini flauta floating in decent salsa isn't worthy of any kind of fame. They are somehow expected to be eaten with a cheap plastic fork too. Weird. It doesn't bother me at all, but if you are basing a review on cleanliness- Let's just say I've eaten in Bourbon St places with a layer of funk all over it and they are cleaner than this place. Not as bad as BS TexMex chain tacos but not worthy of any mention. At all. My best guess is that it is the only place open in that part of town and the locals enjoy the hype.

Pam S.

Yelp
Wanted to see what the hype was about. I'm not from EP but stopped by on our road trip. They only accept cash heads up! Food was mediocre but you can tell the locals love it. Wasn't terrible but didn't loved it. Place is small and gets busy but food comes out quickly.

Jenica G.

Yelp
Love love love Chicos! You cannot come in and expect a fancy service. You also need cash. But the tacos are unique and a staple every time we come to El Paso!!

Just_Julia O.

Yelp
Spending the weekend here in El Paso decided to try it out since we keep hearing about it. hospitality was great...we ordered 2 doubles... the food not to bad

Tom L.

Yelp
Atypical and unrefined "Mexican" cuisine will make your tastebuds dance and sing! If you don't like Chico's, you're likely not a native El Pasoan, thus your opinion doesn't matter. Best swimming flautas you'll ever have.

Gabriel B.

Yelp
An El Paso tradition... people love to hate this place but it's still one of my favorites...

Ny M.

Yelp
Best ever...1st thing I always have as soon as I come home from my other home in L.A. I do miss the old boats where they served the tacos.

Alex G.

Yelp
I just moved here two weeks ago and everyone keeps telling me to go to chicos. So I've bee twice and this time I decided to go in for a second try. This place is kitschy and obviously unique in its old skool feel. It's an obvious institution in El Paso, but i just don't understand the big deal. Twice I got the double order of tacos and this time I got small fries. Ambiance wise I give it a 4 out of 5. It's obviously an old place and they are trying to keep it the way it was. That's where my stars end. Twice I have gotten the tacos where they were cold, the soup is watery and with little flavor. And whats up with the cold cheese . Honestly I thought seeing that salsa or what ever it is that they tacos are in look to have flavor. But looking and tasting are two different things. Also, I got small fries. They were more like kids small. And they were cold also. Maybe I need to come earlier in the day. Maybe it will be better. This is twice. Not sure if there will be a third time. At least I can say that I've been here. ‍

R P.

Yelp
Cheap but not sure worth trip. Came as I had hesitation as to WHY this was on best thing I ever ate... I'm pretty sure it's more of a nostalgia thing if u had it when you were young. Sign says tacos but if you had flautas, its really this or a rolled fried taco. Single comes with 3 "tavos" bathed in a spicy tomato "water".. not really sauce. It's tasty tho and then tons of cheese on top... interesting and prices have changed from pics so see mine that says 2022. Also ordered a hamburger. Buns were way too toasted, meat almost burnt.. again, cheap but McDonalds might be better. Giving 3 stars for tasty sauce and their salsa is spicy and good... other than that... food network needs to rethink this spot..

Gary F.

Yelp
Came here because it was always busy and to this day I don't know why. It must be some type of a locals thing, is my only guess. I didn't enjoy or like anything I had here except the drink (Diet Coke)). Hey what works for some people doesn't for others.

Pat H.

Yelp
These were the worst tasting tacos I've had from them. Aside from the time, I went to their Alameda location, and they served us frozen ones. No taste! The salsa was super cold. It seemed as though they were someone else's. YUCK! Should've known when one of them came back with Whataburger for her break. For the life of me, I don't understand why they don't get an intercom system. They make enough money to install one. Not everyone has a loud voice to call out the orders.

Matt S.

Yelp
Okay. This place should getting way stars, but the service is just terrible. I tried to call for an order that I could pickup Togo for some friends who hadn't had Chico's in years. I have a 10 minute drive. They literally let the phone ring for 10 minutes until I finally had someone pick up as I was walking into the restaurant. When I got my order it came in a nondescript box and I had to request a Chico's Tacos bag which they seemed annoyed about giving me. This place has slowly slipped into irrelevance after being an absolute staple for anyone visiting. I know it's a dump, I know the bathroom are dirty, I know the service is horrible, but when you add high prices into the mix, it starts to become more sad than a destination. I'll come again, but only with people from out of town. I really wish they'd up their game just a little and give people an amazing experience for the high price they're paying for nostalgic, average food.

Mary G.

Yelp
It has been years since I have been to chicos tacos - so can really compare how it was & is now. The now : there is no more calling in one's orders & Chicos taco never answers their anymore- which means if want to call for an order & went home & found that one missing a item one out of luck . There's is no such thing as customer service on the phone.. The single order of tacos ,the tomato sauce - that is place on top of the three tacos has been minimized /less sauce. The tacos are super, super hard as a rock the inside of the taco is burnt. Has, soaking the tacos are supposedly to soften them but now one has soften burnt tacos inside & out tacos. In a nut shell Chico tacos is not was it use to be . Not really recommended- quality of tacos & food gone down. Along with customer service. New generation doesn't know how good chicos used to be , now it's just Bad in every aspect -Customer service & food.

Leslie W.

Yelp
An El Paso tradition! This is the place for those who grow up and move away come to the minute they come back to El Paso. The tacos are not your Taco Bell tcos. These aren't some folded crunchy boxed shells. These are rolled up tight and deep fried to a crunch. Then they are smothered in a red enchilada like sauce and topped with a handful of shredded cheese. Get the order of 6. That may not even be enough. Pick them up with your fingers. Drop a dollop of green sauce on the end and bite it off! As the wife says, "they are sooooo bad, they are delicious ". We all have a place that we love just because of that! Chico's Tacos is one of those for us. Don't forget to drink the sauce when the tacos are gone like a regular. Some folks get the crinkly fries with theirs. Nope. We are taco purists. Order at the counter, pick up your tray. Note: they only take cash

Patricia N.

Yelp
Definitely a must try if you're passing through El Paso. It's iconic, and they seem to be always busy. The place was packed, and I mean PACKED when the hubby and I stopped by for an order of their rolled tacos. It was a typical Sunday night apparently, complete with police detail for security. Umm, what? Anyway, the place was so crowded that we ordered to-go and enjoyed all salty, greasy goodness in the car. It was worth it. The tacos came loaded with cheese and since our order was to go, they gave us cups for the broth. Well, we slathered that broth all over and it was soaked up by the taco shells and melted the cheese. They were definitely tasty and a cheat day meal. I would've wanted to enjoy the tacos in the restaurant to really take in the experience, but alas it wasn't meant to be. It was still yummy though, and a must try if you're passing through El Paso.

Andy V.

Yelp
Chico's has gone up to 6 bucks for the same 1 dollar tacos you can only really enjoy when drunk. The service has always been bad but now it's slow as heck! I thought twice about saying anything cause of the rough looking staff. I know it's chicos and you can't expect much but come on how hard is it to get them out. They are dry tacos in tomato water and processed cheese. I waited in line for 25mins just to order two taco orders and it still took another 20 to get them.

Nick P.

Yelp
Let me preface this by saying that I am the furthest thing from a local. Raised in Montana far from the best tacquerias money can buy, I decided to give Chico's a try. I bought a double and single order and it set me back $8. I went to town on the double and actually really enjoyed it. I mixed the green jalapeño salsa with the red salsa already in the boat. I'd recommend going that route if you want more flavor. Knocked off a star because there is zero parking around the restaurant. Well played, El Paso.

Jesus V.

Yelp
Aron Sanchez, he a liar. Just hyping up his hometown mah and pah, which is understandable but they be NOT bomb dot com. They be good Green salsa is legit. Fries are gangster and that hot dog on a hamburger bun be the truff - as the cool TX kids say.

Hiram M.

Yelp
Disgusting, 0 stars . Low quality and gave me the squirts. Avoiding this place ....puke.

Angela B.

Yelp
Ok, I'm not a big fan of this place it's more of an El Paso thing but my friend just loved the rolled tacos. Even though I made homemade ones, he's still loved the flavor of the ones here. The place could use updating but I enjoyed the fries.

Jenny H.

Yelp
Charming El Paso diner serving burgers and Tex-Mex. The rolled beef tacos were highly recommended to me. Rather than tacos, they're more like enchiladas. They were as tasty as ground beef in crunchy takis could be, and I was really not a fan of the synthetic "cheese" that was generously piled on top. Perhaps it's an acquired taste? Did I order the wrong thing? Not sure when I'll be back...

Courtney-Jamaal R.

Yelp
Absolutely Terrible. Flautas had no flavor and the salsa was awful. Best thing on the menu was the hot dog (added cheese).and it was average at best.

Antonio T.

Yelp
I had been excited for so many years about coming here. As a Mexican, I love to travel and try different types of Mexican food. Not all is the same just to clarify, but hey have a certain similarity which they all share. Ok let me me start off with he sauce it's really good, I for one enjoyed the Ranchero sauce you guys have. In my opinion a little watery but good. Now the cheese I think is fine as well. The tortilla tasted a little old or the oil needed to be changed. Now one thing I did not like is that the tacos had ground beef on them. I think the you should use shredded beef instead of ground beef. Te use of ground beef gives it a bland taste. I felt like I got cheated. I would honestly pay the extra dollar or so if you switched to shredded beef. Overall I don't think I would come here again but I did appreciate the experience. Prices are good but I would pay extra for shredded beef tacos.

April L.

Yelp
Best tacos ever came all the wha from The Bay Area to try these!!' My family members brought me and I just couldn't get enough I just used to take some back home
