Neighbourhood spotlight: Lodhi, Delhi - SilverKris

"A long-running, family-managed vegetarian establishment (operating for over 80 years) known for traditional South Indian fare, most notably its signature podi dosa — a thick, non-crispy rice pancake coated in spices that contrasts with the usual thin, crispy dosa." - Meenakshi J

Tucked between the various small shops in khanna market , lodhi colony this is a small hidden gem for authentic South indian food lovers.. it's popularity can be ascertained from the rush of people waiting outside the restaurant .. As soon u r seated u r welcomed by the tangy and tasty rasam. Their filter coffee is a must try. Their variety of doses and uttappam are too good to be missed.. even their daal vada is very tasty. The only drawback which I feel is their seating... they have serious space crunch .. becoz of which ur whole experience is affected... I was seated at the gate and literally I was seated so close to the other lady on d next table that her hair was falling in my food and my hands.. this place needs renovation seriously

Went to Chidambaram’s New Madras Hotel to have breakfast. I love to have full heavy breakfast, so we had Masala Dosa with sambhar & various chutneys and Malabar Parotta with veg korma. I loved the Parotta, it was crunchy and soft at the same time, exactly how I like my Parotta. Rasam was nice too. If you love south Indian or would like to try, do give this place a Try.

As best as can be, Chidambaram is just total south indian in real sense, with not just flavours but for warm courtesy too. How many places in Delhi can you expect a real good FREE welcome drink, but here the Rasam in winters and Chach in summers makes you ready for the upcoming treats. Be it the special thali or the Malabar protha or the lemon rice each and every item in the diverse menu is par excellence. Just right on stomach and palate. Come and enjoy the real flavourful delightful south indian food as it is meant to be. Ambiance wise the place isn't commercial but rather cosy family like. Lastly everyone from the manager to the server is pleasant to speak to and are courteous to the guests, without being oblivious.

Very nice south indian food, they serve mostly tamil dishes. Their 3 idli platter is the best dish to have. Sambhar is also very good and is on the spicy side. Masala dosas could be improved on taste a little bit. Their chutneys are tasty as well. Filter coffee is also very good here. They should try and move to a bigger place as they have only 4-5 tables there which causes long waiting time.

Coming to this place since childhood Never disappoints with south indian food and also have a variety of Chinese options as well Mostly I have the Dosa and the thali They serve rasam as a welcome drink which is amazing Along with that this is a small old place but the service is top notch and the food is authentic and wholesome Even visited this place during navratri they also did customised order without onion and garlic Overall a go to south indian place you should try

Chidambaram New Madras Hotel is a hidden gem for anyone craving authentic South Indian flavors. The filter coffee is a must-try—rich, strong, and perfectly brewed. The idli is soft and fluffy, and the 3-in-1 rava dosa is crisp, flavorful, and generously portioned. I also highly recommend the dal wada, which was crunchy on the outside and soft inside—just how it should be! Service is fast and efficient, and the chutneys (especially the coconut) are fresh and full of flavor. Prices are reasonable, making it a great spot for a casual meal without compromising on quality. Street parking is usually easy to find during non-peak hours, which is a big plus.

One of the nicer south indian restaurants in Delhi. Finally, one where the sambhar and chutney taste good! I highly recommend the ghee podi idli and the rava dosa.

Old vibezz... Great service... Do not expect a lavish dining experience as this is basically near govt. offices where govt officials used to eat but now it's famous due to it's taste and specially the price... It's really affordable & no compromise on the authentic taste of south Indian dishes. Guess what..!! The servers continue to refill your plates with sauces and things without any extra cost. All you need to order is just a dish and the chutneys and sauces come along with... Authentic taste... My family loved it... I eat here often...
