I’m not exaggerating when I say this is the best cheesesteak in NJ, let alone the best one I’ve ever had! From the friendly service I was received to the amazing food they offer I was not left disappointed! They pack their cheesesteaks to the brim which is amazing! That’s how you know the owners Nella and Matt take pride in what they do, and trust me, they gained a returning customer! I would not stop talking about that cheesesteak the entire ride home! I’m definitely coming back! Love this place I highly recommend!

Amazing place! No cheesesteak pic because I destroyed it in like 20 seconds — it was that fire 🔥 Honestly, this is so good I wouldn’t be surprised if people from Philly came just to eat this cheesesteak. The flavor was insane, perfectly cooked, and super satisfying. On top of that, the owner was unbelievably kind and welcoming 🥹 Highly, highly recommend — this place is a must-visit!

Very clean place! Chicken cheesesteak was incredible. Owner is the chef and I like how you can see their kitchen- keeps it very clean and he takes pride in the food! Very nice guy. We’re not too close but it was very worth the drive, we will be back!

A Must Have!!! Delicious, heavy and Flavorful. I am going back!!!! The Bread was great, healthy portion of protein, cheese melted in perfectly. Your choice of favorite toppings. The restaurant is as Clean as Nona’s house.

This restaurant was an absolute gem! I love cheese steaks, and Chiefs steak house was definitely what the doctor ordered! The staff was pleasant, professional and ready to help you in all that you requested. The atmosphere was clean! The tables were not cluttered with unnecessary stuff. And on to the food! The steak was cooked to perfection! The bun was toasted perfectly. The sauce and peppers also, a perfect combo. My wife ordered fried pickle spears, and they were absolutely delicious. She also got funnel cake fries and me a cannoli! Everything was sooooo worth it. Whenever we come to New Jersey, we definitely will be making this our thing! Thank you for such a wonderful food experience

It’s hard to find a good cheesesteak or even a chicken cheesesteak around here but thank god for Chief’s. Semolina bread, sautéed onions, STACKED the chicken BABY!!! Incredible all around. I’d say best chicken cheesesteak in NJ and I’ve had quite a bit of them. Incredible!

I had to drop the 5 stars for this one. What a delightful family-owned business! Everyone there was friendly including the young lady with glasses at the cashier (didn't get her name) I felt very welcomed. Matt is the best at his craft and it shows. Incredibly juicy cheesesteaks, full of flavour. It is truly a gem. We drove 45 or so minutes and it was worth every minute. My family and I will be coming back. Cheers.

My boyfriend and I eat cheesesteaks all of the time and this is definitely in the top 2. The fried pickles, the french fries, and the mac & cheese were so delicious. Everything was made to perfection. The first thing we noticed was how clean it was and how friendly the owner Matt and his daughter Maria were. I don’t normally give reviews, but they deserve this five star review. We will be coming back to try something different from the extensive menu. We can’t wait to try the onion rings. Thank you again Matt and Maria for an amazing delicious lunch. It’s obvious you put a lot of love and care into your cooking.This was a last minute decision to come here and one of the best choices we ever made.

Hands down the best cheesesteaks I've had outside of Philly! Overstuffed and totally customizable, Chief's Steaks always hits the spot. Great sides and deserts too!

The fact that the owner allowed me to do half chicken and half steak on the sub was a great starting point. Very delicious sandwich! Very filling. I rarely say this but a tad less meat would have made it more balanced; but who can complain about getting MORE! This was a pit stop on my way home from an event, but if I'm ever back in the area, I will definitely be making a stop!

We had a cheesesteak with Cooper Sharp and grilled onions on a 10" seeded semolina roll,. plus a backyard burger and tater tots. Best cheesesteak in the area. Customer service was great.

Cheif's does cheeststeaks really well. They give you a lot of meat on each sandwich. A whole sub can easily feed 2 people. Well worth the cost!

A trip to Philly without those potholes or distance or anything for that matter. I drive almost anywhere for a cheesesteak and in this case the drive was well worth it. They have Whiz! What is a cheesesteak without it? Well not a good one. This is gourmet all the way. From the cuts of what appears to be a tangle of ribeye once chopped and sizzled on the flat top grill. This place shines with authenticity. The bread is perfect. The whiz is perfect and coming out to my car to offer me napkins? Priceless. It's worth the drive.

Let's start with the cheese fries and a 10" fresh semolina cheesesteak with white American cheese, onions, and mushrooms. One word--awesome! They piled on the fresh steak, making sure you get your money's worth. The place was super clean, with plenty of tables for dining in. They offer free drink refills and have a small fixing station. The staff is very welcoming, and there's a small parking lot in front of the strip mall where they're located.

The best in the area and well beyond. Generous with the meat and delicious. I know something about cheesesteaks and Chief's is a go to spot.

We enjoyed our food at Chief's. We ordered a cheesesteak, chicken parm wrap, and seasoned fries. It's a clean, well run, family owned restaurant. We visited Chief's when we were nearby at Rutgers University. I always search for good cheesesteaks, wings, or pizza when traveling to a new area. I searched many lists for "best cheesesteak in NJ" and unfortunately all were near Philadelphia. Chief's was the only one close to our destination so we gave it a shot and we were very happy. The food was great, friendly employees, bathrooms spotless, and timely service. We'll definitely return when we're in the area.

I should preface this by saying I have nothing to compare it to as I've never had an authentic Philly cheesesteak. But this one was good! There's a variety of options or you can build your own. I opted for the signature with a side of chipotle mayo. The sauce really did it, and it complimented the sides which we got a lot of. In fact, we may have tried all but one: fries, mozzarella sticks, onion rings and cheese fries. The family was kind enough to give us their churro and funnel cake fries. We all enjoyed our meals and needless to say, we left stuffed. This small, family owned and operated shop has some seating, enough for our group of 8, and then some. There's TVs with games and plenty of parking as this is part of a small strip of businesses.

Me and my wife took a ride hear after a friend of ours picked up some stuff to go and brought it over- it was excellent- the make your own cheesesteak is ridiculous whichever way u decide to have it also the wings are outstanding I went w/ bbq on the side but there even great naked- we had the loaded tots also and they were amazing too- to top it off the owner Matt and his daughter are outstanding hosts and the place is spotless- can't wait to go back- just go try it it's a can't miss -

Wow! Thoroughly impressed! This was my first time ordering from here. I recently have been craving cheesesteaks because it had been a while since I had one but just can't see myself driving from NJ to Max's in Philly...Last Sunday I went to Better Than Philly in Watchung...it wasn't bad. Owner was nice but it just didn't hit the spot for some reason. Tonight I decided to grab a cheesesteak to watch the Women's Final Four at home. Middlesex isn't far from me and it wasn't hard to get to. Steak shop is located in a two level strip mall. Chiefs is on the ground level...The establishment is extremely clean which is important anywhere I go to eat. The steak shop is owned by a husband and wife and their story is on the back of the hand held menus. True family business which I appreciate. The wife Nella took my order, she was very pleasant. I got a cheesesteak with onions, peppers, provolone, whiz, and ketchup. Got a side of cheese fries as well. I know. It's a lot of cheese haha...When my order was ready and I paid, the Owner Mark (Chief) who was at the griddle thanked me for my business...Again, class act family business...went to Jillys liquor store on the way home and got some Guinness draft to pair with the cheesesteak. The cheesesteak had some weight to it and was PACKED with steak from end to end. No skimping. The bread was soft and pillowy...what I appreciated was even the ends of the bread were soft. You know sometimes you get a roll and it's soft until you get to the end and you get that harder bite...not here...this bread was fresh all the way...Steak was nicely seasoned and wasn't greasy. If I wasn't so hungry the sandwich could have easy fed two people that were moderately hungry. Def good value as far as what you get for the price, which was about $12 and change for the sandwich. With the fries it was right around $20 with the tax in that. They also have a loyalty program where you get a free cheesesteak after you purchase 10. The cheesesteak was the best I have had in NJ, hands down. It's a steak shop. This is what they specialize in. The have chicken and beef. Yes they do have burgers and other things you can put on a griddle but...this isn't like you going to a pizzeria and ordering a cheesesteak or even going to Jersey Mikes or some deli that just happens to have cheesesteaks on the menu. They have cheesesteaks down to a science and I used to spend a lot of time in Philly...this place is better than some of the popular ones out there. If you want a cheesesteak do not go to Wawa or Quick Check or a pizza joint. Go over to Chiefs. Inviting atmosphere. Friendly ownership. Great cheesesteaks. I will be back!

Stopped by this new place in my neighborhood! I haven't had a cheesesteak in a minute so i was craving one. Ambiance - spacious - good lighting - plenty of seating - clean open kitchen so you can watch the chef cook up your order :) - check out the menu on either side of the open kitchen! They have cheesesteaks and much more ( sliders, wraps, fish and chips, etc.) Service - friendly staff - brought our food right to our table - we asked for a a side of Whiz after we sat down and they graciously let us try some The foods - tater tots: came out hot, super crispy and perfectly salted. Went really well with our side of Whiz - Chiefs Signature Steak- huge portion of cheesesteak on a Kaiser roll. I enjoyed the sandwich with the provolone cheese but felt like it needed some sauce. I really enjoyed it after adding some Wiz to the sandwich. I also wish that the bun was toasted. Overall a solid place for cheesesteak! They also have plenty of other options like wings, loaded tater tots, wraps, and sliders. I'll def be back to build my own cheesesteak with wiz and some loaded tots !

I was driving through the area and this place popped up nearby so I decided to check it out. The woman working the register was very friendly and personable, not sure if she's an owner but either way could tell she's vested in the success of the business. I got a cheesesteak with provolone, peppers, mushrooms and onions. It was solid, but I think I should have picked a saltier cheese like wiz to add some saltiness. My recommendations would be to season the meat a bit and perhaps get a thinner roll. The bread did kind of overpower the ingredients and the steak itself was rather plain. $14.50ish was a tad steep as well. Glad I stopped in and checked it out and wish them well.

Found this hidden gem by chance when we were driving out of NYC to Somerset. If I could leave 10 stars I would. Hands down the best cheesesteak EVER!! Fresh, cooked to perfection, exactly what you expect when you think about a cheesesteak, so damn good words can't justify! Owner was on the grill and took pride in his cooking. You can't get any better than that!

Cheesesteaks are "The Best" hands down. I had a taste for a good cheese steak and it was a nice day. I said let me see what's near me in S. Plainfield. The 1st one popped up in Yelp was Chief's and I got in my vehicle and drove there. They're a great family business very friendly and Cute atmosphere. It's a must have for me forever lasting impressions.

This is hands down the best cheesesteak around. The servings are big enough to share. Get one with Cooper Sharp. You won't regret it

We Love Chief's , is my kids favorite cheese steak . One of my kids says Charlie's Is not the number one, Chief's is!! Service is great ! Ambiance friendly and Matt and his family are awesome! If you are in Middlesex area is worth to stop by!

My husband and I were in the area after visiting family. We stopped at Chief's--I ordered the 10 inch, with provolone, onions/peppers and chipotle mayo. It was delicious!! You can tell it's cooked with love. The bread was fresh, the steak was tender, and the chipotle mayo, provolone, onions and peppers were the perfect combination. We live in a Monmouth county, but we'll definitely be back! The place is nice and clean and the service was great! Oh, and we ordered the funnel cake fries to go. We ate them as soon as we arrived home. They were so delicious!!

Don't be deceived by the hole in the wall cheesesteak shop in the mini mall. Space was clean, tables were stacked with all your favorite condiments and the workers didn't rush you through your orders. Hardest decision to make was the side. Sweet potato fries, tots, fries or seasoned waffle fries. Loads of options! I also enjoyed them having none cheese steak menu and cheese whiz. Will be returning!

On our drive to NY, I decided I wanted a philly-cheesesteak and I am soo happy we stopped here! Aside from the amazing philly-cheese steak, the service from the owner and wife was outstanding. This family operated restaurant was top of the line and it checked all boxes. I usually take pictures of my food but it got carried away until I was almost done. My man a got pulled pork sandwich and it was also on point. I will definitely come back with my son because he loves good sandwiches like mommy!

An authentic cheesesteak place in New Jersey. They use Kraft Cheese wiz. That tells a cheesesteak fan alot. Stopped in last Sunday. Glad we did. The owners were first class people and very friendly. That is such a plus, making it worth our 40 minute drive from near Freehold in itself. The food and steaks are worth your effort to try. The meat was fresh and cooked in its own juice so the food was not oily or greasy. Waffle fries done to perfection. Ps, I'm not a fry guy, but I had to try a couple. Cleanliness important. The store was very well maintained and clean. We'd recommend if your craving a cheesesteak, you stop in and give this welcome addition to cheesesteak fans a try.

Food was absolutely incredible. Truly high quality food. The meat was exquisitely tender and perfectly seasoned. There are so many options for toppings which I like as well plus they have cheese wiz!! I got the beef cheese steak with cheese wiz, ketchup and Mayo and onions while my boyfriend got the same thing +lettuce. Everything was so high quality and absolutely delicious. I will ask next time to toast the bread and scoop out some of the bread, however but that's on me! It was a huge portion with so much meat and they didn't chip you on the quantity or quality of the steak. They also gave us on the house cannolis that were absolutely delicious and authentic. Service was 5/5. It's a family owned small business which I really appreciate. The family was talking to my boyfriend and I while we were getting to know how their shop started. Such an inspiring and genuine story that everyone should contribute to this wonderful place. Very passionate about supporting locals so when the owner was building the shop he bought everything in town to support his hometown. Ambiance was incredibly clean and open. Very spacious with a lot of seating to sit and enjoy. I won't stop recommending this place!!!

Solid food, however they messed up my order a few times. I'm not mad at it because it was still good. But a little more attention to detail would be great. Can't wait to be back.

The cheesesteak was amazing. I got it with sautéed onions/peppers/mushrooms, whiz, mozzarella, bacon bits, blue cheese and hot sauce. It was one of the best cheesesteak I've had in recent times. I highly recommend it!

Perhaps the best cheesesteak you can get outside of Philly is at Chief's Steak Shop on Harris Avenue in Middlesex. The family owned shop is in a strip center with off street parking. The decor is clean and new. Each sandwich can be custom made to your liking. I enjoyed the steak very much but I have also tried the pulled pork sandwich which is topped with way too much of the world's worst bbq sauce. Way too sweet and not a bit of heat. The pork was cooked to the right consistency but it was not rubbed or seasoned. I have yet to try their chicken steak sandwich. Multiple types of Fries are all good. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I recommend Chief's Steak Shop if you are looking for a good cheesesteak.

Had a great cheese steak and waffle cheese fries today here at this very welcoming family run shop. The fries in particular were awesome, as was the service. This was a great find!

Was in the mood for a cheese steak so googled what was in my area. Chief's came up and since I never been before I'd figure I'd give it a shot. Ordered over the phone for pickup and by the time I got there my meal was already ready. Went there around lunch time but the place was empty but clean. I ordered the cheese steak with cheese wiz, grilled onions, and chipotle mayo. When I took my first bite I didn't taste the chipotle mayo. I was able to taste it on my second bite. Didn't taste the chipotle mayo throughout the sandwich though. But the sandwich itself was amazing! The bread was nice and soft but wasn't soggy. I do wish it was slightly toasted. They give a hefty portion of meat which is cooked really well and with the cheese wiz which was just a melody of flavors. The fries were also really good. If you do get their cheese steaks prepare for it to be messy. Personally I loved it and they did not skimp on the cheese. Plenty leftover for me to use on my fries. Decently priced considering how much food you get. For you lighter eaters out there, you can probably split the sandwich with someone else. For you regular eaters, you can probably knock off 3/4 of the sandwich. I'm a regular eater but was able to finish the whole thing as it was that good. Definitely recommend giving this place a shot.

I patronized this restaurant 4.21.24 foe the very first time. And I must say the food here wass a sin to my belly. When I say this food is AMAZING it is TRULY AMAZING. The first thing I ordered was the funnel fries and omg was I delighted when they hit my taste buds. I also ordered a cheese steak in which it was so mich meat for the money that I could only eat half. My husband had the chicken fingers and fries in which he loved. Needless today I will he stopping by there for another order of funnel fries. I recommend this place 1000 times

We placed an order for two cheesesteaks & 12 bone-in wings. The sandwiches weren't bad but they barely had any of the toppings (peppers & onions) that we requested on them & minimal cheese. The wings were good though I did want a little more kick to their Buffalo sauce (& maybe a a little extra sauce.. maybe a preference tho) I was very excited to try Chief's out given all the great reviews but I'm really sad to say, I feel it may have been overhyped. I plan to give them one more try during "regular" hours (not so near to closing) but I'm still unsure. No matter what time or when you order, your food should always have the same expectations. Guess we'll see

In from out of town on business and tried this for lunch. Cheesesteaks are excellent in this family owned restaurant. Would definitely eat there again. I got the cheesesteak with white American....amazing
