How to Plan a Trip to Palermo, Italy

"Climb up to the terrace of the Church of Santa Caterina to admire an unparalleled view of Palermo from above. On the ground floor, you’ll find I Segreti del Chiostro, a workshop specializing in sweets prepared according to old recipes by the Sicilian nuns." - Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz is a freelance writer and editor based in Rome. It’s hard to beat the Convento di Santa Caterina for sweets. The convent housed cloistered nuns from 1311 to 2014. Since 2017, the cloister has been taken over by a group of professional baking women who make the most spectacular cassate and fill cannoli studded with ground pistachios. GO THERE.

Best attraction in town. The church itself is very impressive, but get the full price ticket, as the spectacular views from the roof are worth it. The bakery and garden are lovely too (best cannoli we had anywhere in Palermo!)

A splendid church in the very center of Palermo. Has a very decorated interior that worth seeing and considerably strict exterior. It is possible to visit just the church for 3 euros, and don’t forget to go the monastery pasticceria that serves the best cannoli in Palermo

Definitely worth visiting for the rooftop as you get great views up here of Palermo. The monastery and church are also all beautiful and I would recommend a visit here.

Visit the inside and the roofs. You can skip the monastery. The sweets shop can be accessed separately. When you are in the church, there is a free guide you can use - quite helpful actually.

This is certainly one of the most impressive Catholic churches in Europe with remarkable craftsmanship. The church was built in the 16th Century that is a masterpiece of the Roccoco, Baroque and Renaissance architectural styles. The artwork consisting of frescoes and stucco is superb with an alter that is striking in appearance. The statues and painting are remarkable as well. The various chapels are additional masterpieces.

It’s very beautiful baroque style church. You also can visit monastery and the rooftop (10 euro for full ticket)The view there is great as well! There is an old bakery in the yard, so you can try cannoli and other desserts for very reasonable prices (one cannoli - 3 euro) and a cup of coffee for 2 euros. Totally recommend this place.

The church opens at 10:00. It is absolutely breathtaking. At the entrance, visitors are presented with the option to buy a tour of Sicilian rooftops. Taking the access on the right, you go into the cloister and its wonderful pastry. There, visitors can buy the best cannoli in Sicily and many more Sicilian specialties. Plus, you get to eat your sweets in the cloister's garden!
