Chikufūdō; Obuse Main Store

This shop specializes in chestnut-themed dishes and desserts. I had the Chestnut rice and a dessert comprising a chestnut cream with crispy rice mochi. The restaurant is above the confectionary which sells a broad range of chestnut-based sweets and desserts available for purchase.

We had the vegetable lunch set which came with its famous chestnut rice and it did not disappoint. The chestnuts shaved ice was also very nice on a warm summer day. A little on the pricey side but worth a try when in Obuse.

Excellent chestnut rice. Flavor was wonderful. The sides in the set were all tasty and interesting. They have a limited menu. You can get a set of chestnut rice with or without a fish and not much else in terms of savory food. They do have some dessert and tea sets which are nice if a little pricey. Around lunch time expect to wait for a table. It goes relatively quickly though.

The service is great! And the food is delicious and healthy! Great atmosphere ! Our first time having chestnut rice!

Everything seems to be a little too sweet for dessert menus. But we can feel the real chestnut in there. Good service also.

Good selection of seasonal and chestnut sweets and snacks. Easy access to the carpark right next to the shop.

I've been here many times and the chestnut rice and ayu fish are always delicious. I also enjoy the mountain vegetables and mushrooms. Today we also tried an apple sorbet which was lovely.

Obuse is famous for chesnuts and Chikufudou is a long establishment. I got the chestnut dorayaki here and they made great souvenirs! They also have a restaurant so you could have some chestnut cuisine.
