I absolutely loved this museum, unfortunately, since our last visit during Christmas (5 Stars then) of last year and our visit this year in May, this place has changed recently. So here I am updated my review, which is not something I really wanted to do, but as a paying member for an entire family, I feel I must let others know before becoming one. Hopefully, things will be resolved.
Currently there are issues with some of the exhibits not functioning. The weather room is not working; the problem is that the flashing lights and rain is not working. Some parts of the museum are closed due to construction, which is fine, but who knows how long they will be closed? Lego playroom included. The dental room is missing tooth brushes for kids to practice brushing teeth.
Two huge disappoints:
1- Injury
My 4 year old son received a laceration and blunt trauma to one of his eyes, which later produced a serious black eye after playing in the tubes located across from the dentist exhibit. By the tubes, they have a slide and on the right side is a wall where children can climb it; this wall has birds printed on it. So here is the story, my son went up the stairs to go into the tunnel and I walked in behind him, after you get in towards the end, on the left side there is a place where children can stand up and look through a Plexiglass dome. Now this tunnel is very dark, so kids can barely see anything. The way to walk into this section which allows children to stand up and see out of has to be stepped into, so when getting into it my son tripped on the wood trim and fell and started to scream as he was inches away. When he fell I could not see anything, so we slid down the slide and when I looked at his face, I was in total shock; he had a knot at the zygomaticofrontal suture, after this we left immediately. Luckily my father in-law is an MD, so he looked at him, he is okay, I am just glad his eye was closed, otherwise he could of had cornea damage. Visit the museum, but don't let your kids go inside this tunnel/slide.
2 - Gone?
The other one is that they cleared out the entire science room and turned it into a party room. Why? In this room kids learned about how they belch, regurgitate food/liquids, how the sinuses work, why people have odors (called sniff, sniff) play doctor and they even had this awesome game that kids could play against each other by guessing questions on how the body worked; this game was called Grossology. After guests left this room, they had this huge pin art display, which has been removed as well.
Hopefully during our next visit we see some changes. After things are fixed, I'll update my review.
