Be warned, you will be fed huge quantities here so make it a late dinner or walk Petit Bayonne and Grand Bayonne a great deal before dining. We had such a charming and intimate experience here and despite Annie, the owner and one of two cooks, not speaking English. We managed to really enjoy our time dining with antics (my dining guest was my three year old) and the warmth of a family home. The dishes offered come in a set menu with Basque sangria or bottled wine and grenadine for tots. I couldn't think of more fitting dishes such as garbure, axoa, gateau Basque avec cerises, and Basque paté with guindillas. It was the first time I had tried these dishes (the gateau Basque, however, I've baked for almost nine years but always the pastry cream version) and they work wonderfully together. You will be served a basket of bread for the delicious garbure, and of course for the tasty and rich axoa. Despite being the only diners that evening, you can tell the restaurant has hosted many an enjoyable night and I hope it is still there and manned by Annie when I return next winter, as I heard it is for sale.
