From Artisanal Grocery Stores to Third-Wave Coffee Shops, a New Generation of Businesses Thrives in Singapore's Joo Chiat District | Condé Nast Traveler

"Throwback breakfast joint Singapore's kopitiams, Hokkien-style coffee shops, are a dying breed, so locals mourned when beloved neighborhood hangout Chin Mee Chin Confectionery shuttered in 2018. Luckily, new owners reopened it in 2021, keeping the old-timey feel with marble-topped tables and candy-striped awnings."

"A traditional bakery with an old‑school, nostalgic atmosphere often evoked as a typical weekend haunt for a nostalgically inclined character; it represents the kind of classic, community‑centered foodshop culture where people gather over simple baked goods and coffee." - SilverKris

Beside its 100th anniversary this year, it is not worth the hype and the queuing time... You can enjoy the atmosphere only. The food & drink? It's un-enjoyable.... Kopi coconut milk was super diluted!! Kopi C also v diluted.. haizzz The kaya toast was not tasty at all.... I also ordered braised pork belly rice and the taste was too sweet and very sad.... I am a fan of braised dishes. But this was disgraceful 😔 Conclusion, I will not come back to this place. Such a waste of calories and my time... i traveled 1.5hrs 😤 Please please improve 🙏🏻 Let the tourists and locals have a nicer taste of foods n drinks in SG

Reasonably good food. Popular place full on weekday morning have to wait around 15mins for a table. Cool and windy at seating area outside shop but all seats are stool without backrest. Pets allowed.

We tried the kaya toast set, and it was better than the usual standard. I liked that the kaya spread wasn’t overly sweet. The curry pork was also tasty, with a portion just right for a late breakfast.

Dropped by Chin Mee Chin Confectionery on a Sunday morning. There was a queue, but the wait was very manageable at around 15 mins. The line moved steadily, and the vibe outside was lively yet relaxed. Once we were seated, our food arrived not long after ordering — efficient and fuss-free. I went for the kaya bun set and appreciate their twist on the classic. Instead of toast, they serve a pillowy-soft bun, generously slathered with rich, fragrant kaya. The half-boiled eggs were perfect — runny, silky, and seasoned just right. A comforting classic, done exceptionally well. Best part? The set is affordably priced, making it a great value for such a nostalgic, satisfying breakfast. There’s also a small basin available at the back, which makes it easy to clean up quickly before or after your meal. On my return visit, I tried the gula melaka coffee chiffon cake — an interesting flavour combination on the menu. While the taste was pleasant, I personally prefer a softer, more delicate batter. The kaya custard puff stood out with its distinct kaya flavour infused into the custard — rich and nostalgic. Paired it with a sour plum lemon drink on a hot day, which was a refreshing and perfectly balanced sweet-salty treat. The chocolate peanut butter tart and cream horn are on my list for next time. CMC strikes a beautiful balance between heritage charm and everyday comfort.

You’ll feel the cozy and charming traditional tea house vibe as soon as you step in. The store offers a wide selection of buns, traditional and modern breakfast (toast and half boiled eggs/ french toast) as well as heartier items such as curry cutlet rice. We enjoyed their kaya toast which was served on a toasted bun, giving it both a satisfying crunch and pillowy texture. The laksa bun was also unique and contained actual laksa ingredients such as laksa leaves and tau pok. Be sure to arrive early on the weekends (think 8am especially if you prefer indoor seating) as it gets packed in the blink of an eye.

A taste of nostalgia. Still so good after so many years! More seats (outdoor) compared to the old design. Friendlier service although I do missed the Hainanese uncle. And more importantly, Pang Susi is still available here! Can’t find it anywhere else in Singapore.

We had our breakfast here with outdoor seating. It is pet friendly restaurant, so if you don't keep pets and afraid of dogs, I advise you to take indoor seating. Teh gao is so so, not that thick as I expected. Outdoor big fan blows until my hair as messy as wild grass..lol I prefer peanut bun more than kaya

Love it! A nice kopitiam to get breakfast at, with great kaya toasts and great Singaporean coffee. Place is cozy and has nice aesthetics for pictures, and makes a great place to hang out and dine with friends.
