The Best Shopping in Paris: 21 Places Not to Miss | Condé Nast Traveler

"A colorful, quirky Montmartre friperie in the shadow of the Sacré-Coeur, Chinemachine has long attracted deal seekers and vintage lovers. It's a small space—even smaller when you take the spiral staircase down to the basement, which overflows with clothes. Overall the store is a lesson in organized chaos. It's amazing how much stuff the owners manage to cram into this tiny shop. If you're willing to rummage, you will be amply rewarded and still have cash left over for an aperitif." - Lindsey Tramuta

I thought this place was great!!!! Can't imagine why reviews are low. Prices were VERY reasonable!!!!! I saw a lovely Betsy Johnson summer dress for 25 euro, and Hugo Boss dress for 20. I got 3 sweaters for 57 euro, and I could have bought more. Very friendly service!

Amazing items with great prices!! Lots of different styles, I think anyone can find something they love over here. I went to the other vintage shops in the area, this by far the best one! Thanks for my new favourite pants (which was only 10 euros!)

Excellent location in a terrific part of Montmartre, at the bottom of the hill. Lots to look through, chill staff. One little "dressing room," so be patient if you have to wait. Be sure to go downstairs, there's so much more. They have terrific selections and reasonable prices.

My favorite vintage shop in paris, the staff is always kind to everyone. The best clothes ever at amazing prices. I always leave out with half the store!

Really good prices and a wide selection of choices! The staff were also very kind and welcoming. If you visit don’t forget to go downstairs, there is much more inventory and it’s very picturesque being in a “cellar” of sorts.

Cute vintage boutique with great prices! Be sure to checkout downstairs!

Great vintage store with affordable prices! Sandro dress for 15 euro😍 Go here early morning and the store is still organized and chill. Lovely staff! One of the best vintage shops I visited in Paris.

Nice shop. Bought a few things for friends that I will be flying back to the U.S with. As I took an item from my shoulder bag, I noticed that a part was missing. It was the ring part of a bracelet. It must have came apart while In my bag. So, I immediately took it back to the store thinking that would refund or at the least exchange it for me... Nope!! Nothing of the sort. All sales are final. Now, had I'd known that, probably would have still purchased it. But I would have used my Amex card, which would have made my disput easier. Again, I would have just purchased something else. But, that should tell the customer that all purchases are final. Instead of cash is preferred over credit cards.

Yelp
This place is really cute and unique in a cool area. The prices were surprisingly reasonable, and there's a pretty good selection. Make sure you go downstairs!

Yelp
Great selection, the staff knows English well and makes great conversation. They helped me make a decision on shoes and a vintage dress. I got everything I needed here when the weather turned rainy for the 4th day in a row. I came in February for the first time, and had come to the city during its first major windstorm too. The jackets, backpacks, dresses, tops, skirts, shoes, and glasses (everything) was reasonably priced. I will definitely be making the journey back to this shop and it's other location many, many, many times over. 10/10

Yelp
Found lots of good stuff at totally reasonable prices. The store is cute and the staff was friendly and speaks English. I love this area of Paris and this makes a nice break from sightseeing!

Yelp
I probably wouldn't recommend stopping in! I've been here a few times and the staff are not friendly and not helpful. The last time I came in, the entire staff was trying to help another staff member find her phone and everyone was in a very dramatic panic. I offered to try and help and they wrote me off without a thought or a thank you. Selection is pretty medium here too! I'd say you'd be better off someplace else.

Yelp
Found a couple of sweet 100% silk scarves (one designer, one not). Both very reasonably priced-not scary expensive like at Puces flea market. Lady was very polite and welcoming. She also spoke English. Nice experience.

Yelp
The people who work in this store are beyond awful. They refuse to bid a person the hour of day and speak loudly at each other in raucous accents. I asked for help with something and a woman with long dark hair more or less hissed at me. It was strange, but more importantly, it was not ok. This place is not ok. I would avoid. I would actually go to Fripe store instead, which is a bit grim, but not as grim as these broads.

Yelp
I was referred here by a friend. It is pretty cool. Small establishment with a lot of good usage of the space. While It was a no go for me in terms of any purchases ( always remember that thrifting is an art, and random. Some days you will strike gold and other times you will come up short) my wife found a fabulous coat for a fabulous price. She's happy and I'm happier. Thankful that they had what she was(not) looking for. She played the game and won.

Yelp
Not sure why the reviews are so low.. I found great ties from Christian Dior, Valentino and Pierre Cardin for less than 15 euros each. Also found a beautiful Balenciaga silk scarf for cheap. There's not a crazy amount of items so this place is easy to look through. Give it a try!

Yelp
RIP. OFF. Go back to America and buy/sell from Buffalo Echange, at least you'd get your money's worth. They are infinitely snobby here.

Yelp
We visited 4 thrift stores in the 18th and 9th arrondissements yesterday in search of a wool coat and found Chinemachine to be the best organized and most pleasant experience of the four. The other 3 were either filled with piles of heavily worn garments (Guerrisol), or filled with cigarette smoke and overpriced garments. At Chinemachine, my daughter purchased a J.Crew wool/cashmere coat for 50 Euros. They put the garment on hold while we checked online and found the coat in similar condition for $67. As she lives in Austria, purchasing online through eBay or similar sites isn't cost effective. I took off 1 star because you cannot negotiate with the saleswomen. What kind of used clothing store doesn't negotiate? That's half the fun!

Yelp
snob level one million. expect sneering at every turn. decent finds, but after you try clothes on, they expect you to go back through the store and put back every single item you chose in the exact place you found it. i used to work retail, and that was an essential part of the job. so let me restate: lazy snobs.

Quentin F.

Yelp
A great thrift store, not perfect, but definitely worth the stop. I'm a man and for once I found many pieces of clothes I could have bought, and believe me, it barely happens to me. I got a great coat for only €35. Okay, the salesmen they hardly speak any French, but they will reply to you in French if you speak to them in that language. And they're all English native speaker, which is really convenient for tourists. In a nutshell, if you happen to pass by, get in!
