"Koi carp swimming in lakes, weeping willows reflected in water, and ornate pavilions perched on rocky hills … you’d be forgiven for thinking you’ve been whisked to China in this little pocket of Sino paradise. Set between entertainment quarter Darling Harbour and nearby Chinatown, the walled Chinese Garden of Friendship was built to symbolize Sydney’s friendship with sister city Guangzhou in Guangdong, to mark Australia’s bicentennial in 1988. There’s a small entry fee to discover this romantic retreat, modeled after classical Ming Dynasty gardens." - Sophie Davies

Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting the Chinese Garden of Friendship, and it was nothing short of amazing. Nestled in the heart of the city, this garden is a true oasis that transports you to another world the moment you step through its gates. The scenery is breathtaking. The meticulously designed landscape features winding pathways, lush greenery, and stunning rock formations, all carefully crafted to evoke a sense of tranquility and harmony. The presence of vibrant Koi fish swimming gracefully in the ponds adds to the serene atmosphere, creating a perfect balance of nature and art. One of the most captivating features of the garden is its ability to make you forget you’re in the middle of a bustling city. As you wander through the garden, the sounds of the city fade away, replaced by the soothing trickle of waterfalls and the gentle rustling of leaves. It’s an ideal place for reflection and relaxation, where you can sit down and read a book by the waterfall, immersing yourself in the peaceful surroundings. The Chinese Garden of Friendship is more than just a beautiful place; it’s a sanctuary where you can unwind and recharge. Whether you’re seeking a quiet spot to escape the urban hustle or simply wish to enjoy nature’s beauty, this garden offers a unique and restorative experience. I highly recommend visiting the Chinese Garden of Friendship. It’s a testament to the beauty of nature and the artistry of garden design, providing a perfect retreat for anyone looking to find a moment of peace and inspiration in the city.

The place didn't look big on the page but when we got inside wow. Just amazing, it was big and such a great atmosphere, peaceful and calming. Price was amazing. Could spend all day there. Highly recommended.

Good garden to while away 45 minutes or so. $12 entry for adults. $8 for seniors and kids over 5 years. Kids under 5 free. Lovely water features, lizards, carp, trees, bushes, birds, rocks and Chinese structures. Unfortunately there was extensive maintenance going on while we were there so several areas were not accessible. Not disabled friendly, only lower part of garden accessible. Toilets available. Could use more seating to sit and contemplate the garden.

Super lovely place to visit for an afternoon! Entry was only $12 for adults and $8 for students. The scenery and garden design is so aesthetic and so stunningly beautiful and a great place to catch lunch with so many fantastic eatery options nearby in darling square. There is a Chinese restaurant that has opened up inside the gardens too that also looks like such a great place to have lunch.

Really peaceful well kept gardens right in the heart of Sydney. Beautiful gardens, lots of fish in the ponds. They even have fish feeding a couple of times a day. The entry fee is reasonable.

Would very highly recommend visiting this absolutely beautiful place. Definitely worth a visit. Very peaceful and beautiful. There are many steps so it’s absolutely NOT wheelchair friendly and would also not be easy for people with mobility issues but for the able bodied people, they would definitely find it a serene experience. There’s a Chinese restaurant for those that are hungry but if you’re just looking to experience the garden itself, that’s fine too.

The Chinese Garden of Friendship was a beautiful experience. An oasis of peace and greenery amidst concrete, impeccably landscaped. A perfect place to escape and lose an hour in nature, yet still in the heart of Sydney. The entrance fee, around 7 euros, is definitely worth it. I would highly recommend it.

Entry fee was $4 less with a reservation at the restaurant, so good value. The gardens are very good and not crowded so well worth a visit. But the restaurant is very average, so over priced for the service. The food was great, hence 3 stars. But the service was slow, and impersonal. Better value and treatment at other inner city tourist locations. Entrees were served with main meals, why? The banquet was average. But the special (signature) Chinese new year cocktails were not available, run out. The only chicken main was not available either and was told it’s been like that for a while. At least honest. That said there is only one non- seafood option. Friendly staff but seemed not that interested. Was expecting more.
