The hell: very nice weird color. A little more on the orange side when we visited (mid-October), but still super nice. Highly recommend making this the last of the 7 hells that you visit, as the restaurant Gokurakutei is next door and you can end your visit with a nice hearty meal after a round of the hells. Chinoike’s footbath is also very nice and may have been the hottest among the 7 hells of Beppu!

Google
Fair warning, Chinoike Jigoku is pretty far from the rest of the hells, and the other hells also have red pools, so if you’re short on time I probably would skip the two over here and instead visit the other hells that are lumped together. But if you have too much time like me and like seeing stuff it’s a pretty cool red steaming pool! 😂👍

Not too crowded. This hotspring is a bit further away from the rest. Need to have car or use public transportation. Not recommended for walking from other hotspring because its a slope road!

This and the Umi hell are my favourite. It also has one of the largest shopping area. Good to have it as your last stop to do all the shopping for hell that you want.

This was the last of the 7 sevens hills for our visit. It is a 2 min walk from another of the hells but a 10 min drive to the first 5. If you plan on visiting all 7 hells, get the book as it's 2400 instead of 500x7 if you pay individually. As for this hell, it is a beautiful red color hense the name bloody hell. There is a great gift shop and footbath as well

Yelp
Chinoike Jigoku is one of the more distinctive jigokus among the 7 jigokus/Hells (hot springs) in Beppu. It's not a hotspring you can bathe in as it's far too hot only to sight see. It has a red appearance and has exclusive souvenirs that others jigoku don't have. For example, the red onsen balm that uses the waters/clay from Chinoike Jigoku claims to have healing properties and removes scarring. I don't know how effective it is but I did buy a couple as souvenirs for my parents and inlaws. This along with Tatsumaki jigoku is a bit farther than the 5 jigokus so a separate day trip is probably better. If you buy the pass you can explore all 7 for 2 days. We bussed up here instead of going through a tour and I believe it was around 2000-2500 JPY for all 7 Hells. The neighbouring jigokus here have magnets that say "Beppu" on it if you're looking for one that represents your trip to the city. Whereas the other 5 are all near each other and would either not have a gift shop or if they do, carry magnets that are unique to that Jigoku. It would say "Kamado" or another representing the Shiraike jigoku with the hot spring and an egg basket over it to represent that it's hot enough to boil an egg. I mean it's not super exciting but still interesting nonetheless to take some pics and explore the gift shop.

Yelp
Chinoike Jigoku (Blood Hell) is one of the many famous hot springs that brings visitors around the world to Beppu. Out of the few core group of hells that attracts visitors, I would say that this is one of two that I'd actually recommend you check out during your stay. Like the other hells in town, you're not able to bathe in the hot spring. Rather, you are invited to come in and take a look at the blood-colored pond and experience the heat up close but not actually soaking in its waters. The site was small and for the ¥400 entry fee, I can't really say it was completely worthwhile. There is a small walking path that will take you above the spring for a different view, and a dedicated omiyage shop. If you've been to Yellowstone in the States, it's really going to be hard to compare the Beppu springs with those in Wyoming. On your Beppu route, I do recommend checking out this hell first before going to the other ones since it's a bit out of the way.

Yelp
#7 of 8 Hot Spring Hells Chinoike Jigoku 血の池地獄 is pretty in RED. The reddish colours from the acidic iron and magnesium-filled clay which suppose has healing power for certain skin disease. This is the best set up out of all the 8 hells. The souvenir shop has a great selection which I highly recommend where you shop unless you want to drag all your bags through all the hells. There is also a foot bath from the hot spring where you can soak your tired feet in those reddish water. I found this bath the water was a little too cool for me.

Yelp
It is so beautiful! unfortunately it is too hot but you can't put your feet or any part of yourself inside it. But there are places where you can soak your feet in the clear water that's really really hot. I want some vanilla ice cream that had red pepper on it which turned out to be cayenne pepper. it was an interesting combination. make sure you get the coupon book from the foreign tourist information center and the JR station before you come here to save yourself a few hundred yen. if you don't admission into each of the eight Hells is about 800 yen. definitely worth visiting

Yelp
One stop on the tour of Beppu's Jigoku (Hells) Hot Springs. Beppu is famous for its hot springs and each of the Jigoku has its own unique features. This one has a red colour thus the name Pond of Blood. Must see when visiting Beppu. Chinoike has a great gift shop where you can pick up a lot of souvenirs/omiyage. Be sure to drop by when visiting Beppu/Oita.

Yelp
If you've been going on the tour of all the hells, you'll probably be a bit burnt out by the time you get to this one. The name literally means pond of blood due to its bloody red boiling water. The hell itself is quite large, and there's a trail that goes up behind the hell as well as another foot bath. To enter the hell area, you need to pass through a decently sized gift store selling all sorts of things with onis on them as well as spicy items. A bit ironically, there's also a little area selling ice cream and popsicles. I would say that this is up there with the more scenic hells. It's not as gimmicky as some of the other sites which was a welcome change.
