Beautiful walk along the pier past the lighthouse to the point where you can see the separation of the river water and lake water (more blueish). Nice breeze across the water keeps it a bit cooler even on a hot day.

Very pretty views, nice place to eat lunch or just spend some time relaxing. Learn about the scouts and trains. Greatful for the beauty of the boardwalk.

Chinook Pier is one of the little gems of Grand Haven. It's not too out of the way, and during the summer it's a perfect place to visit. It's easy to overlook though because most people only focus on the train when they pass by... What they don't know is that to the left of the train are a number of little shops lining the pier. Everything from a miniature golf course, ice cream shops, rental shops, and gift shops line the pier but because of the other shops in front you can't really see most of what's behind. Almost all of the stores close during the late fall and winter, only opening during the spring and summer seasons, but even then it's a beautiful place to visit on a clear day. On Wednesdays and Saturdays (I think) you can even enjoy the occasional Farmers Market next to the train. This spot is just great... :) Update: In the years since I first posted this review, much has changed (especially since the pandemic). Many shops have closed down, or downright disappeared. The farmers market is still going strong, and the park areas are relatively untouched, but I thought any visitors should know that the pictures I posted of the pier shops are no longer represenitive of what it looks like today.

Had a salmon charter out of here. Had bathrooms close and a nice fish cleaning area. Had a great time. Docks were in good condition. We would go back for sure.

Yelp
Right on the water with games. Again another location with cement corn hole, cement ping pong and wood foosball tables. So bring your own balls or bags if you want to play. All the big boats are down this way and the pere Marquette train can be found down here. 25mph streets, tight parking and lots of people watching.

Yelp
chinook pier is such a gem in grand haven! the best thing about it? the putt putt course, hands down. it's so much fun, and honestly, they should never get rid of it--it's a classic! i look forward to playing putt putt there every single year. it's the perfect mix of nostalgia and summer fun. don't change a thing, chinook pier!

Yelp
We were staying in Holland and decided to drive up to Grand Haven for the day. I was hoping to find something that would entertain my little boy and stumbled upon this. It was perfect! He's in love with trolleys and trucks and trains. We parked at the Chinook Pier and saw the train. Then we hopped on the trolley. It picked us up right by the little ice cream window in that strip mall. But apparently it will pick you up anywhere along its route if you just flag it down. All tickets are under $2, so this is a super affordable activity. I think the whole ride around town was only about 20 minutes. And I think I you're welcome to ride it around more than once. Our guide/driver was the most soft spoken and funny guy. We really enjoyed hearing him speak about the history of the town and little details you'd only know as a local. I'm sure we'll be visiting Michigan again next summer and we'd gladly do this again!
