Chinook Pier is one of the little gems of Grand Haven. It's not too out of the way, and during the summer it's a perfect place to visit.
It's easy to overlook though because most people only focus on the train when they pass by... What they don't know is that to the left of the train are a number of little shops lining the pier. Everything from a miniature golf course, ice cream shops, rental shops, and gift shops line the pier but because of the other shops in front you can't really see most of what's behind.
Almost all of the stores close during the late fall and winter, only opening during the spring and summer seasons, but even then it's a beautiful place to visit on a clear day.
On Wednesdays and Saturdays (I think) you can even enjoy the occasional Farmers Market next to the train.
This spot is just great... :)
Update:
In the years since I first posted this review, much has changed (especially since the pandemic). Many shops have closed down, or downright disappeared. The farmers market is still going strong, and the park areas are relatively untouched, but I thought any visitors should know that the pictures I posted of the pier shops are no longer represenitive of what it looks like today.
