I stayed at Chiringuito Tulum Hotel over the weekend because it was conveniently located right next to Zorba Tulum, where my brother-in-law’s wedding was held. I chose this hotel solely for its location. While the setting was peaceful, the food was good, and the staff were polite, my overall experience was completely overshadowed by a major issue.
In the middle of showering and shampooing my hair, both the water and power went out for over an hour. Because of this, I was unable to get ready in time and missed the wedding ceremony... the very reason I traveled there in the first place. In a desperate attempt to rinse off, I even had to use my private terrace pool as a makeshift shower, which was both uncomfortable and unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber.
Although staff apologized for the inconvenience, no compensation or meaningful resolution was offered. Over the course of four days, my husband and I spent nearly $500 at the restaurant, plus mini-bar purchases, yet no effort was made to make things right. To make matters worse, this wasn’t the only power outage during our stay, just the one that ruined the most important moment.
Our family staying next door at Zorba Tulum never lost power, which makes this even more frustrating. I had planned my time carefully, but losing a full hour to this preventable issue derailed everything.
I would absolutely choose to stay elsewhere next time — somewhere that guarantees basic essentials like running water and electricity.
