If you visit Cat Ba island, Cat Ba market is the place that should not skip. This is a good place for buying fresh seafood and specialties of Cat Ba. Beside, you could try to experience local food around the market, such as Chè, Bánh đa cua,etc.

Nice countryside mellow market

Thronging local market, full to the brim with the latest in fresh food from all kinds of seafood to vegetables and fruit, rice and beans. As a tourist I was a little overwhelmed, and would probably not have the need to buy from such a market (eating out is so cheap, and most hotels do not have cooking equipment). But this is the place to be if you are a local sourcing the freshest ingredients for your table!

Nice market with interesting fruits, veggies, sea food, and a section of store bought goods. Was interesting to see and picked up some fruit which was all priced by weight.

A good market where you can buy many kind of sea food, especially fresh sea food. There's also cooking and packing service here, you can buy then after cooked, packing, bring to any where

Upstairs restaurant is a downright awful, ripoff. I wanted to try some market food as usual as I love being able to sample! However as soon as I walked upstairs I was treated poorly- first being that I could tell they were calculating how much they could charge me when I asked how much. Not unusual, but disappointing. The young guy working there seemed to be laughing at me and then once I sat down was on his phone. It might just be a coincidence, but shortly after a group 7 Vietnamese men came upstairs to the empty restaurant and sat all around me when there were plenty of free tables. They proceeded to laugh and stare the whole time I quickly ate. The young guy and the lady owner didn’t do a thing. When I got up to leave everyone burst into laughter. I do stand out with blonde hair and being tall. But it really was a downright humiliating and quite frightening experience. The food was pretty good, but I could get that standard anywhere without the harassment. And I paid the same as I what I’d seen asked on restaurant menus on my walk to the market.

Good local market both wet and dry. Friendly sellers but no English. Good spot to find the local and quite excellent Mắm tôm and Nước mắm in small unlabeled bottles. Say hello and ask price in vnmse for instant savings! :)
