Chocolate Ambassade, Kraanlei 3, Ghent, Belgium. We wanted to do a Chocolate Tasting. We got a list of potential shops for tastings and we walked all over town. At every shop we were looked at like we were nuts. As the last shop turned us away, a customer took us aside and whispered that we should go to Chocolate Ambassade, which happened to be back across town, RIGHT next to our hotel. It looks like it’s closed, but it isn’t. Just open the door and go in. There were 3 levels of tastings. We went for the top level, called The Best of Bean-to-Bar and we’re glad we did. It’s not something you rush through, it took a bit of time. It was VERY educational and fun. The proprietor took us through everything step by step from the fruit to the chocolate. At each step he gave us something to taste. My favorite was the cacao pulp juice which was really fruity. I also got the “iced tea” which was also chocolate, which was really different and really good. At one of the stages, he gave us 3 different chocolate samplings from 3 different countries and all were VERY different. This was a fantastic experience and I highly recommend it. But don’t go expecting a quick tasting. If you get the Best of Bean-to-Bar plan 45 minutes to an hour. It’s a full experience. If you order the other tastings, it will be faster, but we really recommend the Bean-to-Bar for the most memorable experience.
