How Staci Didn’t Let a Medical Condition Prevent Her Traveling

"One of my favorite experiences in the Philippines was seeing the Chocolate Hills; along with spotting tarsiers, they were a memorable highlight of the trip." - Matthew Kepnes

The Chocolate Hills are truly a sight to behold! From the viewing deck, the rolling hills stretch as far as the eye can see, perfectly shaped and almost surreal. They really do look like giant chocolate drops, especially during the dry season when the grass turns brown. The place is well maintained, and the climb up to the viewing point is worth it for the breathtaking panoramic view. There are also facilities like restrooms, souvenir shops, and small stalls where you can buy snacks and local treats. I recommend going early in the morning or late afternoon for cooler weather and softer lighting it makes the scenery even more magical. Definitely a must-visit when in Bohol, and one of the most unique landscapes I’ve ever seen in the Philippines.

We went there for Sun ☀️ rise and its was nice. Not a hard hike, just a few stairs and you are up. Beside the fact we were early there - we paid for entrance (100 PP per person)

Absolutely stunning! Seeing the Chocolate Hills in person was surreal. Nature at its finest—totally worth the trip. The only issue we had was the parking/ticket booth signage, it was only visible from the other side of the road. Hope they can improve that a bit. Still, totally worth the visit!

Loved the hills and colors! It was pouring when we get there. The pictures turned out great! I get the sun set will be amazing.

This is one of those spots in the country that you only get to see in textbooks growing up. A little cardio and what awaits uphill is a panoramic view of one of the seven wonders of the country.

We visited the Chocolate Hills in March 2025, and unfortunately, it was raining when we arrived. Just as we were about to leave, the rain stopped and the sun came out, which felt a bit ironic! Our tour guide mentioned that the weather there tends to be moody, so it’s best to visit during the peak summer months for the best chance at clear skies (we actually thought March already counted as summer). The place itself is iconic and rich in history, and the view is still beautiful even on a gloomy day. However, aside from sightseeing and taking photos, there didn’t seem to be much else to do during our short visit. We only stayed for about an hour or two, but I definitely want to go back someday, hopefully on a sunnier day, to finally see the hills looking like real “chocolates.”

The Chocolate Hills in Bohol are a truly awe-inspiring natural marvel that absolutely live up to the hype! From the viewing deck, the panoramic sight of these hundreds of perfectly conical hills stretching out to the horizon is simply breathtaking. During the dry season, they take on their iconic 'chocolate' brown hue, creating a landscape unlike anything else on Earth. Beyond their captivating beauty, what makes the Chocolate Hills even more fascinating is the geological story they tell. These unique formations are believed to be the result of marine limestone deposits uplifted by tectonic forces, then sculpted over millennia by erosion – a testament to the incredible power and artistry of nature. It's a living, geological classroom right before your eyes! It's important to note that, as a major attraction, the Chocolate Hills can get quite busy with tourists, especially during peak hours. However, even with the crowds, the sheer scale and distinctiveness of the landscape easily command your attention and make the visit entirely worthwhile. Find a good spot, take a moment to absorb the vastness of this natural phenomenon, and you'll understand why it's a must-see in Bohol. A truly remarkable blend of natural beauty and geological wonder!
