We LOVED this place! I saw a few reviews where people weren’t happy with the prices and the portions but you have to understand they make everything from scratch; the gluten free dough, their own ice cream and all their own cheeses, including some that are fermented and aged. We were so impressed! The vegan cheese plate comes with a variety of these delicious cheeses that are house made—all so fresh and tasty (our favorite was the cashew one)! Yes, it’s a tiny portion but it’s worth getting. My husband and I are not gluten-free, and don’t purposely seek out gluten-free foods, but the pizza we got was one of the best gluten-free doughs we have ever had. Had it not said on the menu that this dough was gluten-free I would never have known! I have to believe that they put a lot of time and effort into perfecting that bread! You can buy some of their cheese wheels to go, as they do have grab and go options (they’re bigger) that are wrapped individually, but they need to be refrigerated. Either way, I highly recommend trying this place out! Oh, and the dessert was really good too! I loved that it had visual appeal vs. just a bowl of ice cream with some fruit. Staff are extremely friendly! 10/10

We needed a quick spot to grab breakfast early and they were open. It was so nice and clean inside. It was a huge space! Really nice place to relax and maybe read. We got the tofu egg salad sandwiches and coffee. It was great and what we needed to get the day started.

Great meal options for gluten free/vegan. Pizzas were a bit small. They even had gluten free beer. Price point a bit high but to be expected with 100% gluten free.

Not quite 5 stars but good effort in attempt to make vegan food. It is 100% for tourist as the entire menu is in English. Cozy vibe and good service, however food is just lacking the wow factor, I. E pinch of salt or acid for some pop.

Delicious gluten free and vegan food. It's a Western style restaurant. I had the pizza. The crust was crispy and soft on the inside. So good! I'm not vegan but the vegan mozzarella was surprisingly tasty.

An overall great experience. While visiting Kyoto we stopped by Choice. It was a great experience since the moment we walked in. We were quickly greeted and seated. It is important to note that the restaurant is a bit small so just keep that in mind. Additionally, they have English menus available. The menu has options for everyone, from cheese lovers (vegan) to someone who just wants a burger. All of the dishes that we tried were delicious with decently sized portions (although towards the smaller size) for around 2000 yen per person. We also tried the ice cream dessert that they had and it was quite tasty, a mix of textures accompanied by a cloudy ice cream.

VEGAN REVIEW: CHOICE is a great vegan eatery not far from the bustle of Kyoto's Sanjo area! I had a great, quiet meal here. I was hoping to eat some traditional Japanese food, so I went with the curry and brown rice, thinking it was Japanese curry. Unfortunately, it was not, but it was flavorful and filling. If I were to come again, I'd probably try something else since I can get curry pretty much anywhere in the US. They had a huge selection of vegan cheese which was cool to see, but I didn't try any.

Delicious all vegan and gluten free cafe. We stopped in for breakfast. Food: * Chocolate pancake: thick and just moist enough. Came with maple syrup, vegan butter, ice cream and nuts. * Egg sandwich. So damn good. Wish I could make mine like this, very creamy and it came with a salad. * Large salad. Fresh, lots of ingredients, with a tangy/sweet mild dressing. * Coffee and cappuccino. Both really smooth. Aesthetics: very clean looking, with a mix of wood, green, and healthy living books. Other: * Such friendly staff! * Free WiFi * English-speaking staff They apparently have a "cheese board" for lunch. Not sure if I'll be able to come back but it looks amazing.

Amazing. We were so stoked with everything we ordered. Definitely try the cheese platter--it's delicious and cute (small). We got a green smoothie, a red smoothie, the quiche, the burger, AND pancakes. Obviously we were ridiculously hungry and this was exactly what we needed.

Love!! The cheese plate is just amazing, and definitely worth ordering as an appetizer to share! What a great way to start the meal! I ordered the quiche and salad - this was absolutely delicious and I would return for more. It was light, moist, and full of flavor. I felt satisfied afterwards and full. It is a smaller sized meal, so ordering an appetizer and a dessert will hit the spot. My husband ordered the stroganoff and he was very sad that he did. It wasn't so tasty and blan. He immediately regretted it. It was fun for me because I got to bug him for the rest of the meal as I had advised he order smokey cheese risotto but he didn't listen We got the soft serve for dessert. It tastes more like flavored ice rather than soft serve however it was delicious. We both enjoyed it. Service was fast and atmosphere was cute and quaint - I really want to go back to try the pancakes!

We were recommended this place by our tour guide when we asked for a vegan gluten free place to enjoy some western influenced food in Japan. This place served just that! With a cute cafe feel, this restaurant has burgers, Japanese curries, pancakes, cheesecake, and assortment of both Japanese and western cuisine which are All vegan and ALL gluten free. Our favorites were the pancakes with creamy melty soy butter which is not like the soy you get in America but tasted sweet and salty and pure. The syrup that it came with was the perfect accompaniment to this dish. The chocolate cake we ordered was a decadent and delightful treat with almost of a brownie texture and very rich. After just a few bites, you can definitely get the chocolate punch that you're looking for! What was wonderful is that they had Japanese curry without any gluten since most Japanese Curries have soy sauce. Although a bit on the more turmeric side, it was great and spicy and had that kick at the end. My favorite was the corn soup that came with the burger and the burger bun itself. The burger bun felt like a warm scone or a biscuit that was just light and airy. Honestly everything you order here would be great and amazing!

Vegans from Texas we loved our dishes The cheese platter was ahhhhhh sooo good Small yes delicious yes I ordered the quiche which was amazing , creamy flavorful with a salad Wife order the pasta with red sauce and you can't mess that up . We then ordered coffee and desert the chocolate cake more like a fudge cake brownie was very good . Tasted on the dark side . The cheese cake was so smooth and the crust was my favorite , along with 2 soy lattes For all of this we paid ¥5,800 so it's pretty pricey for a lunch for 2 but not many vegan places were open due to the holiday . I recommend coming to choice the place is very cute charming interior with friendly staff.

Amazing, delicious food but this was the first place I found in Japan where the portions were actually smaller than I would like. But it didn't stop us from loving the place; we went here 3 times in 4 days. The pancakes are rich and thick but you only get two, the burger was large enough and filling, and the desserts were to die for. Pumpkin Mont Blanc, enough said! This is one of the few food places I fould where you could use a credit card too. They have a creative and tasty vegan cheese plate.

Came here this morning for the pancakes, my platter came with ice cream too. Very delicious, helpful staff. There are plugs for your phones on a table in the back, which is very convenient, especially when you're traveling through the country.

Excellent food and very friendly atmosphere. Open plan and relaxed. Plenty of food choices, all very tasty! The cheeses in particular were delectable. We wanted to stay all day.

Super cute vegan cafe. Western inspired, but still nice food. The ambience was cute cafe style, with jazz playing. We sat at a table filled with health books in english and japanese. The menu had something for everyone! I had a burger and my boyfriend had a veggie curry. I also had a green tea, which was really nice as well.

Choice is an absolutely brilliant vegan place by the river in Kyoto. The staff is wonderful and the food is amazing. I had the pancakes twice!! If they have muffins, buy a few to go. The coffee is perfect. It is an all around amazing place. Check the hours before you go!

If you need gluten-free food, this is your home in Kyoto! Everything is gluten-free, plus lactose free (vegan) and delicious. It was a treat to get a latte and a vegan burger. The atmosphere is relaxed; it is a cute cafe. Do pay attention to the hours - they transition between breakfast, lunch and dinner, so you could end up there when they are not open. We were there before the lunch hour, but they still took our order and served it before 11! There are also gluten-free treats you can take out - I enjoyed the chocolate chip muffin.

It's been a while since I've written a review. This restaurant has earned its 5 stars. Delish food, excellent service! Curry, quinoa salad and banana muffin with soy latte. Excellent lunch/dinner. I'm in Osaka for a few days. Def will be coming back here. By the way, this place is not hard to find at all. All food on the menu is vegan :)

Vegan food is not so easy to find in Japan. But this place found by our guide was the best food we've had yet. Everything is vegan so you don't have to worry about fish stock being in everything. I had the quiche and it was delicious! Highly recommend!

This restaurant is amazing! I highly recommend Choice if you are looking for healthy, vegan food outside of the tourist trap of Kyoto. The food, atmosphere, and staff are excellent! My meat eating husband enjoyed his meal almost just as much as I did. The chocolate cake and raw food cheesecake are a must.

Nice place for lunch and dinner. We tried dinner and liked it. All very fresh. Food is Pasta, Salad, soup and risotto of the day. And of course the cheese plate and pan cakes.

Gluten free and vegan food. It is amazing. The vegan cheese is the BEST VEGAN CHEESE, I've ever had. It is one of the rare places in the world that has fermented vegan cheese. A serious special place and I highly recommend it.

Adorable little cafe. Perfect for lunch. We saw a lot of couples and groups of friends, as well as some single people with books dining here. The food is scrumptious! We had the bolognese pasta and the risotto. Do not miss the vegan cheese platter! It was amazing. Prices are very reasonable and service is excellent. We felt so light and healthy after eating here! We would definitely go back.
