I visited Chois again after a disappointing first experience. This time, the side-dishes tasted rich and authentic. We ordered the bibimbap, ohsambulgogi, and yangnyeom chicken. The bibimbap was delicious and kept to the original flavours. The ohsambulgogi was also okay but altered for local tastes, and the yangnyeom chicken reminded me of my childhood. All in all, a great second experience!
The atmosphere was very nice, and I agree that everything looked quite authentic. I appreciated the variety of different side dishes. I ordered the sundubujjigae (soft tofu, seaweed soup) and the yangnyum chicken (spicy fried chicken). Unfortunately, I was really disappointed by the inauthentic tastes of the dishes. The fried chicken had too much breading, and the soup tasted as though some tofu and seafood mix had been chucked into a very salty kimchi stew. To top things off, the quintessential egg in the soup was missing. I left most of my food untouched, and the serving staff did not look surprised (as I am Korean). I really hope my meal was an anomaly because I would hate to know that the rich flavours of Korean food are being presented in this way.
