Chokdee Café Belgian Beer Bar

An unusual gem of a Belgian Beer venue in South East Asia, and not at significantly greater prices than in Europe. Authentic Chalices a touch of class Food a little better than adequate, even for vegetarians!

I came across this place on Google maps while looking for some bars in Vientiane. As much as I enjoy drinking Beerlao, after two weeks in Laos I had a craving for something different. Chokdee cafe boasts an outstanding selection of mostly Belgian beers; about 8-12 are on tap, the rest in bottles. Most impressive is the assortment of glassware; as shown on the beer menu, each bottle comes with the appropriate glass from the brewery. Prices for Belgian beer are obviously higher than domestic but seemed reasonable. I can’t speak to the food too much as I only ordered the fries, but they were tasty and came with mayo as in Belgium (and ketchup). The decor of the place also really stands out, with lots of Belgian drawings on the walls and movie posters like Tin Tin. Great service too; our waiter properly poured each beer. All in all, great spot for anyone craving something different than Beerlao (though they have it too) and willing to spend a bit more

Based on my experiences, I can’t speak to the quality of food from five or six years ago, but in 2024, I had four consecutive meals at this place, each time ordering two different beers, and there were no issues whatsoever. Whether it was the mussels or the local steak, while the dishes weren’t outstanding, they were definitely worth the price. Particularly noteworthy is the beer selection. Where else in Laos can you find such a variety of Belgian beers? Even if they were sold at 100 times the price, it wouldn’t be unreasonable. This is a restaurant for enthusiasts and a unique addition to Vientiane’s dining scene. I hope it continues to operate for a long time.

Chokdee Café Belgian Beer Bar in Vientiane offers an incredible variety of beers. The prices are reasonable, especially considering most of the beers are imported. We also tried some desserts, including a waffle and chocolate mousse. While they were not bad, they weren't particularly great either. Overall, it's a great spot for beer enthusiasts!

So, I'm a huge beer snob, I won't drink cheap beer. I'm a huge belgian fan. This place has an amazing selection, I'm honestly shocked. I'm from western USA, but currently live in Thailand. So far I've not found squat in Thailand. Wish I'd found this sooner, instead of the last night of the trip. If you love good beer, don't miss this place. Food was great too.

Great beer bar for Belgian beer. What i liked the most is how they use a different glass for each beer. We also ordered fries that were alright

A very nice wooden bar with dozens of European beers in bottles and Guinness on tap! The food looked very good, but I was only there for beer. 😁 The western beers have Western prices... $6 or more four most beers, but they do have Beerlao on tap too for cheap.

As a previous reviewer said, if you are a bit bored with the local beer this is a fantastic place to try quality Belgian and German beers and gin (31 different gins!). Six pages of beers to choose from! Excellent food and service and very reasonably priced. Lovely atmosphere with blues music playing. Highly recommended.
