We had a party of 2 at 7:15 on a Saturday night. There was no wait and the restaurant was about half full.
The high ceilings are very nice and the place is well-decorated. It’s definitely a different vibe from most everything else on/around Buford Highway—it’s new and chic.
We started with the Tofu Summer Rolls ($5). The peanut dipping sauce definitely made the dish. I thought $5 was fair for what we got. For entrees, we got the Bò Lúc Lac (Shaking Beef) ($16). The beef was tender and seasoned perfectly. I thought the cucumbers and tomatoes on the side were a little random though. We were disappointed with the portion. For $16, I expected more. We also got the Mí Tôm Wonton Chiên (shrimp and pork wonton soup) ($12). It was average. We asked for chili paste (per another reviewer’s suggestion), and that definitely took it up a notch. It needed more flavor and umph, and the chili paste did just that.
We decided to splurge on drinks after reading the many reviews that raved about them. We got the Chi Chi Dream ($10), which was good. I liked the coconut flakes, which surprised me because I normally don’t like them. They weren’t too coconut-flavored, and they added a nice crunch. The Painkiller ($9) was also good. The nutmeg was a nice touch. The Jungle Bird ($10) was a miss though. It was weird and too strong. I definitely wouldn’t get that again.
There are a lot of other restaurants in this area that we want to try, and based on the portions and prices, there are better places that we would go back to over Chôm Chôm.
