We stayed at Chonor House during our trip North, on the advice of our agent. |Chonor House sits at the top of McCloud Gangie, which sits above Dharamshala, and is part of the Norbulingka Institute which also has a guest house in lower Dharamshala. ||Upon check in, the staff are welcoming. It’s a quiet manner, but no less warm.||The house is very clean, and they library that faces the city is wonderful to site and read, with lots of space and very comfy sofas. |The rooms are quaint. If you want a more shaded suite, try Songsten suite, as it’s the one under the trees. The others are on the other side of the house and get more sun. ||The food menu is generally pretty good, and they do a mean crispy chicken burger!||The Dali Lama’s temple complex is across the small valley, within 4min stroll if that’s your thing.||Now the not-so-good.||The dogs. The do not stop barking between midnight and dawn. Ear plugs are a must if you want any sleep.||The location. As it’s right in McCloud Gangie, it’s super busy and noisy. Car horns and tight roads are not for everyone.||The Service. The service was ok, but on one of our nights, they had a large group having a buffet, and were told we would have to wait for dinner. The general service is a bit of an exercise in patience. ||I would really recommend that you stay in the Norbulingka guest house instead. It has a view of the mountains and is larger with more going on and a beautiful garden of Japanese design and the artisan workshops. ||McCloud Gangie can easily be reached with the new cable car from this location.
