Roommate individually decorated to a very high standard and are extremely spacious . The thing that lets the place down is the quality of the food which is probably the worst we had in a 4 week tour of India . One morning the porridge was totally liquid . The chicken curry was all bones with the smallest amount of chicken I’ve ever seen . Many reports of the negative quality of the food in visitors book but nothing has been done . Location excellent but if mobility an issue do avoid as many steps and steep hill upto accommodation. |There’s plenty of places to eat out and I can’t fault the rooms

The best thing about Chonor House is the location, only a 2min walk to the Dalai Lama's temple complex. The rooms are spacious, mine had a balcony overlooking a courtyard and beyond to the Dalai Lama complex. Mine did not have a hairdryer or TV, which wasn't a big deal for me but I mention for completeness. The main downside is that it is up a short but very steep hill, and from there you have to go up even more stairs to reception. No elevator, so its definitely not for anyone with mobility issues. The restaurant is adequate for dinners, though we wound up going out after the first few meals there, and the breakfasts are extremely meager. There is also a large dog population that seemed to have regularly scheduled barking sessions at 2 and 5 am, every night.

Excellent place to stay. Rooms are lovely. The staff are kind, friendly and very accommodating. The service was excellent. I felt very well cared for - our flight was cancelled and they were able to arrange a taxi for us back to Delhi. Would definitely stay here again.

Highly recommend this place. The rooms are decorated with Tibetan art and accessories. Felt unique and that’s the experience you want when visiting a place like Mcleodgunj. Staff were polite and friendly. Breakfast was delicious.

The room was large, looked ok and clean. The bathroom was surprisingly good. Sadly we booked a queen room but they put us in a twin. They didn’t seem to be bothered until the travel agent intervened. The room was very noisy with barking dogs and shouting people late and starting again before 5am. The breakfast was dire. The terrace was nice but unkempt. All in all not a good experience.

You have to be careful which room you book. We had a supposedly Superior Room with balcony, but it was on the ground floor facing the path in to the hotel. The dogs barked all night, and we had to close the blinds as all arriving guests looked directly into our room. The balcony door did not close properly because of rotted wood. And the balcony overlooked a tin roof on a neighbouring building and was unusable||Other rooms on the front on the hotel overlook the Dali Lama’s monastery and avoid the dog noise. If you insist on staying here go for a high floor room with a view of the monastery||The hotel is difficult to reach by car as the road leading to it is particularly narrow. And even after reaching the hotel, you and your luggage have to ascend a steep series of steps to reach reception. After that more stairs to reach most rooms as it does not have a lift||There is a very nice outdoor eating area, but the breakfast buffet is truly appalling with little choice, stewed coffee , no bread. Decent juice, but not replaced when it runs out||The mainly Tibetan staff do try to please. But there is no sign of a manager to talk to when things go wrong||If I returned to the town, I would try a different hotel

Location good, clean, spacious room, reception staff pleasant.||Very noisy at night, neighbouring garage shutters open/closing all night. Told ‘regulars’ stay in upper floor rooms.||Food very basic and hugely limited, missing availability of essentials such as bread, condiments and napkins. ||Unlikely to return.

I had a great stay at Chonor House. The staff were very kind, respectful, and always ready to help with a smile. The room was very clean and comfortable. Everything felt thoughtful and special-from the beautiful decor to the tasty meals in the cozy dining room. You can really feel that this place has heart and meaning. It's more than just a hotel-it's a part of the culture.
