I had a great stay at Chonor House. The staff were very kind, respectful, and always ready to help with a smile. The room was very clean and comfortable. Everything felt thoughtful and special-from the beautiful decor to the tasty meals in the cozy dining room. You can really feel that this place has heart and meaning. It's more than just a hotel-it's a part of the culture.

This is a nice hotel, staff is friendly and location is good. But our experience was not great. We had booked the hotel for two nights. We had no running water after the first day and so we had to move to a different room in the night which has never happened to us before. I hope this is one off event but wanted to share it with everyone.

Location good, clean, spacious room, reception staff pleasant.||Very noisy at night, neighbouring garage shutters open/closing all night. Told ‘regulars’ stay in upper floor rooms.||Food very basic and hugely limited, missing availability of essentials such as bread, condiments and napkins. ||Unlikely to return.

We stayed at Chonor House during our trip North, on the advice of our agent. |Chonor House sits at the top of McCloud Gangie, which sits above Dharamshala, and is part of the Norbulingka Institute which also has a guest house in lower Dharamshala. ||Upon check in, the staff are welcoming. It’s a quiet manner, but no less warm.||The house is very clean, and they library that faces the city is wonderful to site and read, with lots of space and very comfy sofas. |The rooms are quaint. If you want a more shaded suite, try Songsten suite, as it’s the one under the trees. The others are on the other side of the house and get more sun. ||The food menu is generally pretty good, and they do a mean crispy chicken burger!||The Dali Lama’s temple complex is across the small valley, within 4min stroll if that’s your thing.||Now the not-so-good.||The dogs. The do not stop barking between midnight and dawn. Ear plugs are a must if you want any sleep.||The location. As it’s right in McCloud Gangie, it’s super busy and noisy. Car horns and tight roads are not for everyone.||The Service. The service was ok, but on one of our nights, they had a large group having a buffet, and were told we would have to wait for dinner. The general service is a bit of an exercise in patience. ||I would really recommend that you stay in the Norbulingka guest house instead. It has a view of the mountains and is larger with more going on and a beautiful garden of Japanese design and the artisan workshops. ||McCloud Gangie can easily be reached with the new cable car from this location.

I recently had the opportunity to stay at Chonor House, and regrettably, the experience was far from satisfactory. For a property that carries such a reputation, the quality of service was surprisingly poor. One of the most frustrating issues we faced was with the food service. Despite placing our order two hours in advance, the food was still not served on time. I had to personally go to the kitchen multiple times to follow up and remind the staff—something no guest should be expected to do. There was a clear and troubling lack of coordination among the staff. Even basic services like room service, housekeeping, and addressing simple queries required repeated reminders. This pointed to either inadequate training or ineffective management, neither of which reflects well on the establishment. What made the situation worse was the behavior of one staff member, who was blatantly rude and disrespectful. Such unprofessionalism is completely unacceptable in the hospitality industry and left a lasting negative impression on our stay. What was intended to be a relaxing and enjoyable visit instead became unnecessarily stressful. I sincerely hope the management takes this feedback seriously and works to improve both staff conduct and operational efficiency. Chonor House has potential, but that potential is currently being undermined by poor service.

Tibetan style hotel in a very good location next to the Dalia Llama's home. Room was big and clean with great views. We appeared to be the only people staying there which was a little bizarre. The service wasn't great, no staff around at breakfast and we had to wait 30 mins before anyone turned up ! Enjoyed our stay though.

A charming hotel in the centre of town. Our room was comfortable, and if the mist/fog had cleared, would have offered great views over the valley. Had dinner there one evening which was nice. Our one criticism, although not the fault of the hotel, is the number of street dogs very close to the hotel, who barked throughout the nights we were there, making sleep near impossible. For this reason alone we would not recommend this hotel.

An absolute gem—a little slice of heaven tucked away in McLeod Ganj. I’ve stayed four times, and I honestly can’t wait to visit again. The rooms are stunning- and actual works of art. Each one is decorated with beautiful Tibetan-inspired designs that make the whole place feel so special. It’s peaceful, calming, and has this zen vibe that’s hard to find anywhere else. What I love most is how tranquil it is. Next door to the HH Dalai Lama’s temple- it’s the perfect spot to unwind, recharge and maybe even find yourself. The staff are so kind, welcoming and accommodating —they really make you feel at home. Compared to most places in the area, Chonor House stands out in the best way and feels very top quality experience. It’s cozy, unique, and so much nicer than the usual options. It’s one of the reasons I can’t wait to come back. Already counting down the days until my next visit.
