Alloro Chooti Restaurant Sigiriya

If you pick this restaurant, dont pick the burgers or pastas. Chicken was dry. Prawns were well overcooked. Fried rice was tasteless. Carbonara is a myth, wont be served with bacon (see photo) A 2 stars just for some of the local dishes that were okay - still, we had much better curries in town.

I’ve been in Sri Lanka for 3 months and I’ve eaten many great rice and curries. But this was definitely the worst rice and curry I’ve had here. On top of that, we waited more than half an hour for such a terrible meal. I’m honestly surprised how this place has received so many good ratings and reviews. Don’t be fooled by the reviews. If I were a tourist visiting the country for the first time and wanted to try local food here, I would probably think Sri Lankan cuisine is terrible and never try it again. Please have some respect for your country and your national dish. Honestly, it was a waste of my money, my time, and my stomach.

Called in and had a tasty chicken kottu for lunch. I would have liked the spice to have been cooked in the dish rather than supplied as an extra to add, as hoc. Also, a little surprised to see no price on the menu for beer and then at the end finding out that the bottle of Lion was r1250. More expensive than everywhere else in Sigiriya. Worth a visit.

The food here was absolutely delicious, generous servings for Sri Lanka. They made us a delicious garlic roti which wasn’t on the menu but they were happy to help. We were able to sit on the balcony and watch the world go by. Would definitely visit here if visiting Sigiriya

We had an absolutely wonderful dinner at this hotel in Sigiriya! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and very reasonably priced considering the excellent quality and service. A special mention to David: his service was truly exceptional! He’s one of the most genuine, attentive, and kind people we’ve ever met. He went above and beyond to make our evening memorable, and his professionalism really stood out. What impressed us most was that, despite having many foreign guests, the staff treated local guests with the same warmth and respect. That level of hospitality is truly commendable and made us feel genuinely valued. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, great food, great atmosphere, and wonderful people. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Sigiriya!

I ordered a cheeseburger. On the menue is Hamburger and *add cheese, so I expected to get it like this. They gave me a Burger without any meat, only cheese and salad. Its confusing for foreigners, as in every fastfood chain Hamburger (the name comes from the city hamburg, not ham) comes with beef patty. And cheeseburger means hamburger+added cheese. The staff dont know about this. I hope they change the menue and write down exactly whats inside the burger. As many guests would be upset if they literally get ham in a hamburger. Or order a cheeseburger and dont get meat... they charged me less than a hamburger, so i cant be mad its just a misunderstanding.

Perhaps we ordered the least recommended items, but the fried rice, and filled coconut roti-s were very dry. I suggest trying the rice and curry or Kottu instead. Service was great.

A fiery feast before (or after) conquering the Lion Rock! We braved the legendary Tom Yum Kun – spicy enough to wake the Buddha, but oh so worth it! Bold, fragrant, and unapologetically hot – I’d recommend it even if your tongue does a little dance. Then came the Chicken Roti – more of a hearty meal than a snack. Packed with generous chunks of meat and veg, it’s the sort of dish that makes you question whether climbing Sigiriya after lunch was really such a clever idea. You might need a touch of patience – good things do take time here – but the coffee is proper, the service is genuinely warm, and the whole vibe? Lovely. All in all: a top spot to refuel – body and spirit – with flavour, charm, and a dash of chilli-induced euphoria.
