On the Grid : Kadbanu

"Kadbanu opened in the winter of 2014, bring Persian flavour to the street. The space is bright, tall and light envelops the restaurant thanks to wraparound windows. It’s a great spot to sit down and enjoy lunch, their lentil soup being the perfect dish to indulge in when it’s cold outside. Kadbanu offers a wide selection of unique sandwiches, stews and dinner plates. Make sure to leave room for cocktails, especially the Safka which is saffron infused vodka, sour cherry juice and pomegranate seeds." - Sovereign State

Stumbled upon this family run spot last night thanks to a friend's recommendation and we were all so glad to have tried it. The atmosphere feels very homey, service is great and the food is delicious + reasonably priced. We tried a bunch of vegetarian & non-vegetarian dishes to share (because they can modify the dishes and make them vegetarian) which was amazing. Got some great recommendations from the chef and our personal favourites were: Shanghai noodles, featured egg noodles (got them made vegetarian), braised eggplant (both veg and non-vegetarian) and general Tso chicken! Can't wait to go back very soon!!

Google
It's a solid family run spot for a quick lunch or dinner. We had eggplants with meat and ginger beef both were quite good. The portions are generous, but the atmosphere was not super cozy. I'm only the fence between 4 and 5 ⭐️. I'll get back again to decide))

Eric (the owner) is so kind and caring and genuinely loves what he does. I was a guest artist here and he let me have full use of the patio and kept me fed with amazing food and drinks. This guy is dedicated to his community. Worth all the support.

I have been wanting to order with Chop Chop since last year lol. I just could not find items that I could pair together that I liked. Like I usually go with the chicken fried rice but not option on the menu. Anyway, I decided to try 15. Sweet and Sour Pork. It appeared to have a good feedback. I didn't think that I would feel differently but I do. I didn't like it much and I was a bit annoyed with myself as it appeared that the General Tso Chicken is a hit or ordered more. I was glad to be able to finally order and I may another time with the noodles as I have seen recent photos and it looks good.

Google
Best General Tso in the city, homemade, fresh and family run. I’ve been coming here since they opened! Always welcoming and the food is amazing.

I love it here! Everything is made fresh and it's seasoned deliciously. Great daily specials. Perfect spot to share with a lot of people.

Google
This place had one of the best General Tao chicken dishes I’ve ever had. I was genuinely in love with it, highly recommend ordering it. Overall Chop Chop was a great experience, the food was really good. The service from the guys working there is great and it’s a great spot to visit when it’s warm because they’ve got nice outdoor seating. The other dishes I enjoyed was the Dumplings, the noodles and the pancake. I feel like there’s a lot more to try in this place the menu looked great, definitely will be going back to try more!Highly recommend this place, I really enjoyed it.

Decided to finally try chop chop ! Owners are friendly and had their daughter there which was perfect because we came with our toddler . They played together while we waited for our food. Family owned, comfortable and very relaxing to be there. We did take out because we had plans but next time would like to sit in!

Yelp
So good!!! I've walked by here and they always have several people dining so I figured it must be good. I'm very glad I went in. It's family fun and the entire team is so wonderful. We were served quickly and the service was overall great. We tried the crushed cucumbers, ginger beef, basil chicken, and scallion pancake. Everything was really yummy!! I wish the cucumbers had marinated a little bit because the dressing was really good but didn't really saturate the cucumbers. The ginger beef was so fresh and ginger-y. I'm excited to go back soon to try more dishes!!!

Yelp
Shoutout to Chop Chop & their huge portions What we ordered: Egg Fried Rice with BBQ Pork Taiwanese Basil Chicken (aka Popcorn Chicken) Crispy Shrimp Wontons - my fav! And they're huge as well bless uppp Similar to Starbucks' Pink Drink - this one has something like Yakult in it with soda & strawberry milk (so good on a hot day!) They have more seatings in the summer when their patio is open so def check it out before winter is here! Food: 9/10 Service: 8/10 Ambiance: 8.5/10

Yelp
3.5 Stars As best as I can describe, it's mostly westernized-Chinese 'Chop Suey' food - but still freshly made and with fewer of the trappings (heavy breading, corn starch, sugary, etc...) you run into from comparables. And perhaps there's a few touches of authenticity too, but I'm not in the best position to make that call. Regardless, I enjoyed everything I ate and it brought back some of the comfort of the 'Chinese' food I ate growing up but with fewer of the downsides. Again, the freshness of everything really helped the overall experience. It may not be a place I'd tell others they absolutely have to try, but I could also see myself ordering takeout from here often if I lived nearby.

Yelp
I really really want to give this place a higher review, but the food was really disappointing. I got takeout via skipthedishes and waited in store to get it right away. Service was quick and very friendly staff. 1. Boiled pork dumplings - almost all the dumpling skins were broken. I've never seen this before anywhere... all the juice is gone and the skin being so thick, how did it all break? Normally, I prefer thick dumpling skins. These sins were very thick, but the texture was not pleasant. It was quite hard and chewy, instead of qq. Taste wise, the dumplings were also underwhelming. 2. Cumin lamb - good portion of protein and pretty tasty. Not too oily. The cumin flavour is very mild but overall tasty.

Yelp
As a Taiwanese person, I have to say, this place is by no means authentic. However, there's nothing wrong with that. I ordered the Taiwanese beef noodles. The soup base and the noodles were a lot lighter than the traditional Taiwanese noodles. I was unsure how to feel about that at first, but I realize that this could be an introduction to Taiwanese food for people who aren't use to the strong flavors that Asian foods sometimes have. This, in combination with the decor and presentation of the place, is a good way of promoting Taiwanese dishes and introduce non-Taiwanese people to Taiwanese dishes. Despite it not being so authentic.

Yelp
Best Shanghainese food I've had in ages! So tasty that we couldn't for take a proper pic before digging in! Onion pancake and potstickers (pork/veg) are amazing! Nom mom nom!

Yelp
fried rice: it was really good and not too oily. It doesn't make you feel heavy at all. Not too salty and not too oily so you can keep eating without getting sick and tired of it. Sweet and sour soup: the soup was good, since we ordered the noodle and rice, it was a good portion for the two of us noodles: I don't quite remember how the noodles tasted sorry haha but I just remember everything being really good servers are really nice :)

Yelp
There is a menu available online and a special menu available in store, which I suppose must change from time to time! The additional menu in store offered vegetarian pan fried dumplings on the day that we dropped by, and it was absolutely delicious! The decor is very nice because it's glass all over! We sat right beside where the heater is, so it worked out in the super cold freezing rain day. Our waiter said food is made from scratch so it's possible for my vegetarian friend to ask for dishes that is suppose to contain meat to be cooked without meat!

Yelp
A surprisingly Taiwanese restaurant located at an unexpected location. The name I love and use; the food is a different thing. Hardly any decor and basically you eat and run. Not a place to hang out. The small open kitchen can be seen and it reminds you of your parents' kitchen. Some seats can be uncomfortable. The washroom is small too. Food: the beef noodle soup was hot in temperature and in spice which I love. The beef looked more like pork to me. They didn't have the sour pickled veggies that go with it. The noodle wasn't chewy enough. Good thing it was a good portion. The "ma pao tofu" was alright. Nothing special about it. We did ask to delete some spice to it. The sad part is that the steam rice came like 2 minutes later and it was an additional cost. The pan fried green onion pancake wasn't what I expected. It was hard instead of chewy. Dry too!! It's not the best Taiwanese restaurant, but I'm glad that they are trying and giving that community a little taste of Taiwan. Verdict: I would go back to try their other dish. Not a lot on the menu which then they can focus more on their specialities. Perhaps only if I'm in that area again. Improvement - perhaps play Taiwanese music instead of loud English songs. For a small place, the music was quite loud for lunch time.

Yelp
I've had my eye on this place for a while and it definitely met my expectations. It's a cute little family-owned restaurant. It had giant windows and clean decor. It was surprisingly empty on a Saturday afternoon. The servers were very friendly and attentive. I loved that the menu was simple and straightforward, so we weren't overwhelmed by too many choices. We ordered the braised beef noodles ($12 - they've raised the price from previously posted menus). We also got an order of pan fried dumplings to share ($9). We were really happy with everything we ordered. The prices are a little steeper than what you'd find in Chinatown, but their noodle portions were quite large and they gave an ample amount of beef. The restaurant was also much cleaner than the ones in Chinatown. I'd definitely make the trip back to try their other dishes!

Yelp
Let me first say that I was walking into this restaurant expecting to give this place a 4-star (if not 5-star review). I was skeptical of the reviews that rated this place under 4-stars because of raving reviews from co-workers of mine. However, that co-worker went to this place the Friday before I came and also deemed the quality has declined. So maybe it is worthwhile reading on my review as to why that's the case. My friend and I ordered three things so i'll describe each item below- starting with the best. 1. Green beans- if all the other food was as good as this one, I would've given this place a 4-star review. Fresh, flavorful, and on-point. The wringly green beans stir-fried into the peppers and mushrooms were fantastic. However, this was a very small plate for it to cost $11. Quality: 4.5/5. Price for the food amount: 3/5. 2. Fried rice- this was their featured fried rice and a recommendation from the co-worker. I'm not a fried rice person to begin with but chose this because of the rec. This was just fried rice I could get at any chinese restaurant in chinatown for probably 75% of this cost. It was a lot but not memorable. Quality: 3.5/5. Price for the food amount: 4/5 3. Boiled pork and chive dumplings- having chosen the healthier version of the dumpling options (versus fried), these turned out to be the most disappointing meal here. The dough/skin of the dumpling was very thick (and this is my greatest fear). The ratio of meat to skin was probably 1:2.5. Quality: 2/5. Price for the food amount: 3/5. You can get the same dumplings but WAYYYYYY better at dumpling house in Chinatown. Thank me later and go there. So in conclusion, if you're looking for the hype of this place that came from BlogTO or other reviewers, this place will not meet your standards. I would go elsewhere for chinese food- specifically Chinatown; unless you want the aesthetics and hip vibe, then this place got that nailed down.

Yelp
Great place for affordable comfort Chinese food! Might get a bit packed though. We've ordered green beans, noodles, and a bunch of stuff (I don't remember quite frankly) but the food was quick, fresh, and hot! Will definitely come back :)

Yelp
The green onion pancakes are pretty dope, I would actually revisit the place just for those. However, the beef noodle soup and rice noodles are not 100% authentic. The recipes have probably been modified to appeal to the general Torontonian (which is probably good news for most readers though).

Yelp
Family owned restaurant. The outside wall paint of "chop chop" stands out from afar and reminded me that blogto did a review of the store awhile back! Very friendly and kind staff! Love how there's patio and inside option depending on weather. Must gets : friend onion pancake, their dumplings. I would also probably recommend getting a plate of greens as a lot of their items are fried. Super cool chill place w/ pretty authentic Asian food!

Yelp
Summary: clean, classy, classic vibe restaurant serves tasty Chinese food! It was pretty quiet on a Thursday at 12:30 pm. I was content seeing the minimalist look and classic blue white dishware - it honestly reminded me of my childhood. The lady at the counter recommended the General Tao chicken but I was on a budget and the chicken didn't come with rice (rice is $2 a bowl)... Plus I had my heart set on getting the green onion pancake as an appetizer, so I went with that plus the braised beef noodles. The green onion pancakes came first and were quite good. They split into an outer and inner rim. The outer rim has plentiful green onions... Tasty! The braised beef noodles came after - medium mild width was perfect for me (I'm very particular about the size of my noodles), there was a solid amount of meat and it was mostly tender, and the noodles were perfectly al dente! In addition to chunks of meat there is also a bit of shredded pieces of the beef as you dive into the meal... Delicious! The meal comes with a white rabbit candy after. Solid experience!

Yelp
Chop chop chop chop! My friends and I arrived here around ~12:30 and were seated right away, with the choice of the patio or inside. We chose the latter under the shade of an umbrella. We ordered the fried vermicelli, deep fried tofu (which came with a chili sauce), sweet and sour pork, pork and chive dumplings, and green onion pancake. The dumplings were super crispy on the outside and just perfect inside, super flavourful and was even more delicious with soy sauce! The fried vermicelli EXCEEDED my expectations as I thought it was going to be the typical bland noodles but wow I really enjoyed it. The deep fried tofu smelled a little funny but we realized it was the garbage truck beside us - THEY DON'T SERVE STINKY TOFU AS MUCH AS I'D LIKE TO TRY IT! Everything was all in all delicious and I would totally return to try their other types of dumplings. I highly recommend that if you come with a group of friends, you order many dishes so everyone can have a little bit of everything. The drink menu is pretty sweet too, I got soy milk which I rarely get the opportunity to have in other restaurants. Service was excellent as well with a super attentive server. I would recommend Chop Chop for quality Taiwanese food!

Yelp
Well, it's been a while since I've reviewed CC and now we are not only regulars, my husband considers it his fave restaurant in the city. Service is always great, their patio rocks, and we never eat anything that isn't delicious (and they change the menu enough you can always try something new). We always get a noodle dish, but we were super impressed by the eggplant and beef today ... mmm and those green beans ... and the fried tofu ... aaaaaa. They really shaped up and found themselves. We love you!! Stop selling out of the pork belly stir fry!!

Yelp
I enjoyed a solo dinner here recently. The room is is tiny, but I grabbed a window seat. I had three dishes. The pan-fried dumplings were very good; fresh and expertly fried and lots of flavour, albeit very similar to what you can find elsewhere in Chinatown (see Mother's Dumplings and the Dumpling House for example). The green beans were truly outstanding; perfectly cooked and seasoned, and not too greasy. I could eat a plate of those beans for lunch every single day. The only (small) misstep was the Taiwanese basil chicken. While hot and fresh, it was a little dry and didn't have much basil flavour. I would definitely return.

Yelp
We ordered through Uber eats. The driver was quick and really friendly. The food was hot and not too expensive. Otherwise the food was not our favorite. Out of everything we enjoyed the spring rolls the best. The rest of the food was pretty bland and not a lot of flavor. It was fulfilling and we were hungry so it wasn't the worst thing.

Yelp
Update: I came back to try the General Tsao chicken and the vermicelli noodles as promised. The chicken was AMAZING - it was crispy but not over fried, and there was just the right amount of sauce. I would definitely reorder this! The vermicelli portion size was huge, we ended up taking most of it home. It was also pretty good! The shrimp wontons were crispy and great as well. I love the atmosphere of this place, the high ceilings and ceiling windows make this place look bright and modern. They also have a patio! I will keep coming back here for sure.

Yelp
Since I've reviewed this so many times, I figured I'd reiterate my moms first impressions this time. Green onion pancake was impressive. The baby bok choy wasn't up the par, as it was a bit old. The braised beef noodle soup was ok. The soup wasn't strong enough - wasn't Braised long enough. Salt and pepper shrimp was ok. It was an old style way of cooking where the shell is still attached. Chilli fish was very good for its price and the portion was plentiful. Pan fried dumpling's skin was too fragile. It broke upon the touch of the chopstick. Basil chicken wasn't special. It reminded us of Go4Tea. Overall she gives this place a 3+, so I rounded it to a 4!
google avatar

Sharon Y.

Yelp
Friendly service, delicious food and cute atmosphere. My friend got the general tao chicken and she said it was very good. I got the beef noodle soup and the dish included thick noodles with rich braised beef pieces and sliced bok choi in a spicy broth. Both portion sizes were pretty generous (especially the noodle soup). We also split a large creme brûlée, which was delicious as well.

Yelp
Checking another one off my bookmark list, I was super impressed with this Chinese restaurant. Small, but a good amount of seating. More upscale than your typical Chinese restaurant. What I was most impressed by, was the lack of grease in the food! Typically ordering Chinese food tastes so heavy and can be shiny with grease. Not here though. Friendly service. And they offer takeout/delivery. I'll be coming back here for sure. Best part is the White Rabbit candies with the bill!
google avatar

Ebony D.

Yelp
This is the best Chinese/Taiwanese food I've had probably ever. Perfect amount of grease, super fresh, excellent amount of spice. I've been waiting to try this place for a while but for some reason I put it off. I won't be doing that again. I'm so glad I finally ordered this. The taste was incredible and I didn't leave the meal feeling physically heavy or greasy like I do with a lot of other fried Asian dishes. I was given enough in my meal for two meals worth of food so it was a great value as well. I've been scanning their Instagram trying to decide what to order next time! Really a great first dish to start with; I'm sure the rest will be just as good too!

Yelp
SERVICE: Service was fine, the server made a few suggestions and was friendly. Went on a Sunday evening and was seated within 20 minutes for a group of 4. FOOD: The food was OK, the portions were a generous amount but I felt some dishes lacked flavour. The Hot and Sour soup had no taste, neither hot or sour. The dumplings were good and the spring rolls were crunchy. The beef noodle soup was good. The crispy chicken was slightly too salty. AMBIENCE: Chop chop has a very clean and modern looking space.
google avatar

Ashley Z.

Yelp
This is probably one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in the area! It's a cute little place that serves pretty good portions of delicious dishes at an okay price (slightly more expensive but worth it). My go-to dishes are always the Shanghai noodles and the green beans, which are both SO GOOD. Also, the dishes here aren't greasy but still taste amazing! Unfortunately, they don't have A/C so it is slightly hot especially during the scorching summer days, but honestly we were too busy studying our mouths with noodles to complain. If you're in the area, give Chop Chop a try and I guarantee that soon you'll find yourself craving it and coming in regularly.

Yelp
This is everything I want in a restaurant serving Taiwanese/ Chinese cuisine! Chop Chop is family-run, modern with well-thought out and minimal decor, and serving the classics. The location lets a lot of natural light in and the space is lofty, which allows for a comfortable location to have a long lunch or dinner. We ordered: Smashed cucumber salad - Cucumber salad is a classic accompaniment to many Chinese dinners and Chop Chop's version had a spin on it but still really reminded me of the salads my mother and grandmother would make. My friend worked in Beijing for a year and was looking forward to trying this dish again. It was crunchy, savoury and did not disappoint. Mapo tofu - Another dish I grew up eating and a favourite of my friend. The tofu was delicious and not extremely spicy to suit a more Western palate. Taiwanese basil fried chicken - It came with fried basil leaves and was my favourite dish of the meal. The chicken was super crunchy and seasoned well with 5-spice flavour. Taiwanese beef noodle soup - This is a favourite of mine but I've definitely had better versions elsewhere. Even though the soup and udon noodles were perfect, the beef wasn't braised enough and the colour of the meat was very light. Besides the food, service was extremely attentive (but not overbearing) even though the restaurant was somewhat busy. I really appreciated the open kitchen and would definitely forgo Chinatown to come here again.

Yelp
Visiting Toronto and grabbed lunch at this fun spot! Seating is limited but the food is fantastic with generous portions. We split the vermicelli noodles, scallion pancake, ginger beef, and boiled pork and chive dumplings. The restaurant was a little hectic when we popped in with only one server running around, still everything was well seasoned and the food came quickly. Authentic flavors with a fun aesthetic, loved the contrasts between blue and red decor. The dumplings were the highlight, plump and juicy with the perfect blend of chives. I'd definitely come back.

Yelp
GREAT PORTIONS | ORDER AGAIN: PANCAKES I came here a few weeks ago with my boyfriend. We both ordered a beef broth noodle, and shared a pancake and some pork dumplings. I was really surprised about the portion size when the food arrived. The noodle portion was quite large; if you are two girls and both generally eat a lot, I really recommend sharing a bowl. The beef was really tender and the broth was clear, light and 'sweet'. The pancake was really well-made and I highly recommend it! It is not too oily or flaky, great texture. I was really full after the noodles but couldn't help eating a lot of the pancake too. The dumplings were good, but not outstanding. That is, as expected of a Chinese restaurant. For the portion and price, definitely a great option for those that live in the neighborhood and craving some Taiwanese food to share!

Yelp
A solid 4 stars. General Tao Chicken ($14) and the Green Beans ($11) stole the show. Legit, these might be the best green beans I've ever had and the portion is a good size for those concerned about $11 vegetables. The Green Onion Pancake ($6) was pretty tasty, and the Basil Fried Chicken was pretty good as well although a little dry. Admittedly the fried pork dumplings ($9) were a little too soggy, but when I brought the leftovers home and gave them an extra bit of pan frying for crispier edges was quite good. Despite being a small place that was busy, I will say I was very impressed with how quickly they get all the food out to you. Overall, glad I finally got to try this place out!

Yelp
Came here on a weeknight to try this place after seeing the good reviews. The place was nice and clean, but the problem was the food. I ordered pork and chive dumplings (kinda bland tbh), string beans (quite tasty), short ribs (a little too tender but flavour was not bad), and the braised beef noodle (nothing special). I got a CRAZY STOMACHACHE afterwards, the worst I've ever had in my 26 years of existence. It was so painful, much worse than cramps. I did try to reach out to the company via social media before writing a review but they did nothing to make things better.. just said they'll let the kitchen know. I am truly disappointed.. spent $60 to spend a night in the washroom. I would not recommend..

Yelp
Chop Chop embodies everything I love about a family-run restaurant. It's your more upscale version of a Taiwanese eatery with minimalist interior (marble tables, high ceilings, white furniture + walls, hardwood floor) and an outdoor patio. It's the open-kitchen concept with floor to ceiling windows (tons of natural light) that makes this place look much larger than it really is. With the patio outside I'd say this place can sit about 40 customers comfortably. I'm a huge fan of their menu (both the physical paper menu and the actual contents on it) and don't even get me started on the food. We ordered the Crispy Shrimp Wontons for our app, as well as the featured Egg Noodles, Braised Beef Noodle Soup, Fried Vermicelli with Shrimp, Shredded Pork and Egg, and the Shanghai Noodles with Shrimp and Pork for the mains. So delicious! The portions were huge and I'll be happily eating leftovers for the next week. The quality is definitely there and reminded me of the flavourful dishes my parents used to make for me as a child. I do wish that I read all the reviews before coming here though so I would've known to try those pancakes that everyone is raving about. The staff were very attentive and friendly. No wait for the table and super short wait for the food. Definitely worth a visit. You really can't find better Taiwanese anywhere else in the city.

Yelp
Chop Chop is a hidden gem Taiwanese restaurant that I have recently discovered! I fell in love with their authentic ginger been and braise beef noodles; both dishes instantly shipped me back to Taiwan the moment I put it in my mouth. That nostalgia flavour you simply couldn't find it anywhere else in this city! Another recommendation is the spicy papaya salad; it is refreshing and herby taste, it is an excellent appetizer!

Yelp
YUMMY!!! Order a few items for take out, including their famous hot and sour soup. That soup will clear up any sinuses/sniffles you have, guaranteed. Good spice level and texture. I found that they did not skimp out on the goodness added to the soup, it was filled with mushrooms and other things that made the soup very hearty. Also tried their veggie spring rolls and fried vermicelli. Portion size for the vermicelli was huge and can easily be split between two people. It tasted spectacular! My friend is a vegetarian and I did not miss out on the shredded pork at all, she thoroughly enjoyed her meal also. What also adds to the 5 star rating was their service. They were able to communicate and give updates on wait times. Also, cant forget to mention the Chinese white bunny candies they leave out at the front, what a cute treat! I'll def be back :)

Yelp
We ordered and ate way too much at this place! We especially enjoyed General Tao's chicken and the braised short ribs. The dumplings, fried tofu and spring rolls were fine - not spectacular but tasty. The place was cute and our service was excellent. The food came out steaming hot!
google avatar

Yelp
We ordered the braised beef noodle, fried tofu and steamed dumplings to share between 2 people. It was more than enough food. The noodles are so big and so delicious. The broth was really flavorful and not too salty. You have to order the noodles!! The other 2 dishes were really good too. I'm glad I found my go to spot for noodles downtown. The service was amazing, the server was super attentive, super friendly and kept checking up on us. I would definitely come back here. The patio is also pet friendly so that's a plus for us!!

Yelp
What I got: Eggplant with beef ($14), Chili fish ($15), Pan fried pork and chive dumplings ($9), Green Onion pancake ($5), Ginger Beef ($13), Fried Vermicelli ($13) Pros: - Great restaurant to check out if you want greasy hangover food without it being the boring burger and fries that you see at the nearby patios. - All the items on the menu are under $15 and all dumplings are under $10, if you go with a big group, you can try several items for cheap. - My favourite items are the Chili fish and eggplant, they were very flavourful, not too spicy and goes great with rice. Other popular items people got were the sweet and sour pork and fries green beans. - They have a great patio however the wait time can be quite long and there is not as much seating inside. We went as a group of 7 and they were nice enough to accommodate even without a reservation - Good selection of vegetarian food. - They give white rabbit candy at the end when you pay the bill. - I also saw that they do delivery and it seems quite popular as foodora bikers were coming in and out frequently. Cons: - Compared to the classic Chinese restaurants in Chinatown, the portions are smaller for almost the same price. However I would say this place is probably cleaner and has a more hip vibe. - One star taken off only because the scallion pancake was quite burnt, when we ordered a second, it came out golden with a soft center and crunchy exterior like it should be so it was probably just a one-time issue.

Yelp
Came for lunch around 12:30 on a Wednesday. It is a fairly small spot but it wasn't that busy. The service was very prompt and food came out fast so turn around is quick. Loved the ordering sheet. The menu had something for everyone and it all sounded very good. We settled on the shanghai noodles, scallion pancake, deep fried shrimp wontons, spring rolls, pan fried pork and veg dumplings. Bill was around $50 and it was a lot of food for 2 people. Would return to try more items.

Yelp
Chop chop takes your classic Chinese-American staples and throws a trendy, Dundas West spin on the atmosphere. With some hip hop music, blue and white china patterned dishes, bright coloured chopsticks and industrial-conversion decor it brings Chinatown classics into 2018. As we made our way through most of the menu some standouts included the beef ribs with black bean sauce, the basil chicken, and the cucumber salad. The beef ribs were meaty and tender, the chicken was crispy and flavourful, and the cucumber salad was a fresh and vibrant way to cut through the heavier dishes. The pan fried pork and chive dumplings hit the spot while the vegetarian rendition seemed a little under seasoned and bland. The shanghai noodles, while tasty, weren't much different from anywhere else you'd pick them up. All in all, don't expect anything too culturally authentic, but bring your friends that get squeamish and the place with pigs hanging in the windows.

Yelp
I give this place 3.5 stars. This little neighbourhood hole-in-the-wall is one major black west of Chinatown proper. I like the industrial minimalist decor and the open-concept kitchen - which means you can hear the comforting sounds of food being prepared and cooked. The menu is simple - not the 10-page ones you get at the authentic Chinese restaurants like Asian Legend. It seems they've decided just to focus on the crowd-pleaser items. We ordered the chilli fish and the beef noodle soup. Both dishes came to the table piping hot. The chilli fish is a medium-sized plate of lightly battered, small fish fillets with a nice kick - I give it 4 stars. The beef noodle soup is a big bowl filled with (mostly) tender pieces beef, thick spaghetti-like noodles, what looked like bak choy and broth that also has a kick - I give it 3.5 stars. The young wait staff seem eager - which is good. (Perhaps some of the more authentic Chinese restaurants like Kwan - at Yonge-St. Clair - should have some of their waiters get pointers from Chop Chop.) I would go back for the chilli fish.

Yelp
I go here all the time as it's close to my work and I am never disappointed the service is great. The food is top notch the soup was the right amount of spicy and the broth was clean and tasted delicious. The wontons were crispy and flavorful. This place is a must try everything I have had here has been beyond my expectations and I'm never hungry after and always have a little left over because the portions are big.

Yelp
My friend and I were looking for somewhere near by her place to have dinner and we're so glad we found it. The prices are very good, 12 boiled dumplings for $8. We also got 8 pan fried dumplings for $9 and their deep fried 5 pieces of shrimp wontons for $6. The shrimp wontons were very tasty with the garlic spicy mayo it was served with. I'll definitely be coming back here if I'm in the area again.

Yelp
My experience with the "Chop Chop" restaurant in Toronto had me in utter shock. Coming from a Taiwanese background, this food taste like home. I would INDUBITALEY recommended this restaurant to anyone in need of overpriced, bad food! JK ILSYM YOUR FOOD IS AWESOME

Yelp
It's good americanized chinese good. But overpriced. Was it worth it? For once, yes. But among many other americanized (white-washed) things, this seem mediocre to come back to .

Yelp
Love chop chop. Always good quality. Green beans and veggies cooked perfectly. Spring rolls are not greasy. May be more than other restaurants but the quality of the food is worth it.

Yelp
Those who loves "bright" and spicy food will love this place. It's not good for everyone and not bad at all. It's just for salty and spicy food lovers.

Yelp
Alot of hype around this Dundas west spot so expectations were high. Unfortunately it failed to live up to it. Had the beef noodle, spicy cucumber salad and honey chicken wing. The beef noodle was the biggest disappointment seeing that had plenty better at other random places. The pan fried dumplings looked good at the other table, but unfortunately this visit didn't inspire me to want to come back to give it a 2nd try.

Yelp
Amazing food. I used to live in Taiwan, so Chop Chop is an authentic flashback to that hole-in-the-wall type shops that are common there. We ordered the basil chicken, Shanghai noodles, dumplings, green beans and mapo tofu. Everything was great, the particular highlight was the chicken - crispy and fabulously tasty - if a little slightly high in salt. My partner liked the mapo tofu the best, stating it retained the heat of the wok nicely. My grandma gave her stamp of approval, and that's more than good enough for me. I'll be back :)!

Yelp
Incredible asian fusion food with a nice set of complimentary ingredients to go along. Went here my last night in Toronto (GO RAPS!) Good selection of beer and nice hardware for eating, loved the squid, chinese noodles, and pancakes. Green Onion Pancakes are a must have! Firstly they give you a ton of food, secondly they even gave me a Tide To-Go pin when they saw me washing off chile juice from my white shirt! Friendly and attentive staff and a great midprice eat, Can't wait to come back!
