Google
Overall a nice flavorful meal. The Korean fried chicken and spring rolls were highlights, the curry and bao jackfruit were ok.

Google
Very good! Get the smoked duck red curry with a side of jasmine rice. Not super spicy. Packed with flavor. Very addictive

This is a hidden gem ... If you are in wellington CBD you should definitely visit chow restaurant... Food was delicious the mocktails were amazing ... Plenty of seating ... Staff were lovely

It’s my first time eating at this restaurant. My table had no chopsticks, no water refiller, no menu for food and no tissue. I looked at the other tables — they had everything. Red flag for the staffs. Food is great anyway

Google
Chow never fails to deliver. This was a particularly good meal. The dishes arrived fast. They were very helpful to ensure we had completely nut free meals (my daughter is allergic) And with First Table it was such good value. Highly recommend the cross cut beef rib. Oh goodness, it's my new favorite thing.

The service was amazing - no complaints there. I like how the servers warned people of the step, were very attentive, and fast. No wait for food or drinks and I actually liked the little corner table hidden away. The food was good, ribs were buttery and flavoursime. Thai fish cakes tasted as they should, which I absolutely loved. My partner said he can make them at home though, so I'd like to see him try. Loved the fresh spring rolls, although I would suggest not putting the hoisin sauce on top of them and changing the sauce to a vinegar one with palm sugar. Over all food was 4/5 and service 5/5. We did book first table so got a 50% discount on food but if we were to pay full price, I would say it was a bit overpriced, especially for the size of the plates. In saying that, my stomach is small so 3 plates with jasmine rice was enough. We bought 3 dishes, a rice, and 3 drinks which came to just over $100 with the discount.

Google
It's a decent mid-range Asian fusion restaurant. The food is good but not overly innovative, so you’ll get a decent meal. However, don’t expect to be surprised by anything new. There is an okay selection of sake and cocktails. The ambience is not bad. It can be a little bit hard to hear when it is busy. It is well located between two bars if you want to head out for a drink after a meal. There is seating inside and outside, and I recommend Requesting a seat that is away from any thoroughfare as some of the seating can be pretty narrow

Google
Delicious food, great service and vibey atmosphere. Will definitely have a meal there again when visiting Wellington.

Yelp
I had a very tasty dish and found the staff friendly and polite and patient when I couldn't decide what to eat. It a relaxing place to dine

Yelp
Consistently good food. This place serves up a range of Asian fusion dishes. About 8 different dumpling options, 3 types of bao, lots of sharing options. The roti is amazing, the blue cheese dumplings Devine. Would come back for those 2 things!! Also good: satay, Vietnamese summer rolls (nice and fresh and crunchy), and also the chicken wings. All tasty. Good cocktails on offer too. Solid place. Would recommend

Yelp
Great for a lite meal with lots of sharing plates. Good cocktails. Don't rock on up and expect a table off the bat, they are usually busy so you may have to wait. Good news is they have a bar next door. Great atmosphere. I like to go here latter in the evening if we are feeling like a nibble with drinks.

Yelp
Ate here with the ladies a few weeks ago now and our night made by our waiter, Liam(?) who was as much of a dish as anything on the menu! Had us girls in stitches all evening! Will be back for him, we think he's a service superstar! X

Yelp
Cute place upstairs by the Library. Foods tasty but portions are small for the price. Service is so so.

Yelp
Ordered on Uber Eats and watched the app showing they were preparing our order. About 20 minutes in, I looked and the restaurant had cancelled our order. Thinking it must have been a mistake, I reordered, only to watch the same thing happen another 10 minutes later !! my family were left hungry and disappointed! Not good enough!

Yelp
Now I'm not one to be overly critical of the places I tend to visit. Chow offered up a service experience unlike anything I've previously been exposed too in my almost half century on this planet. Now the food was of a good standard, well presented and above average sized and taste. This was all fairly much let down be the below par service. To sum it up in two word 'simply weird' immediately springs to mind. The service person appeared unpleased about us arrival. The special requests about the raw beef to be left on a side plate only added to the feeling. This was topped off with a 20 min wait for a dresser menu that never arrived. Not to be outdone a fellow member of the service team arrived to started to removed unfinished plates without so much as a hello or excuse me. So 'simply wired' is an apt discretion. Although on the face of it not a worse case experience but enough to make me think twice about a return visit that is for sure. Happy New Year Chow!!!

Yelp
Great food and really great drinks in an awesome atmosphere.

Yelp
would give 4.5 but Yelp cannot do that :) Been hitting up Chow for a few years now. Always good food and service. Can't blame one or two off days for what has been a staple go to for yummy, cheap, delicious, consistent food and service. Mango chick salad is good. Lunch deal I'd great. Cocktails are nice. Duck curry is yum. Sharing a bunch of plates was our fav with a few wines or cocktail night. It gets busy so if no booking then don't get upset with a wait, there are other places to have a drink while waiting if their bar is full. They serve food late too which is awesome!! 95% of the time the staff have been fabulous and I always look forward to returning.

Yelp
The thing that struck me in Wellington is that the hospitality staff ARE SUPER NICE! Chow Tory is no exception. We strolled in, stocked up on peach ice teas and asked the waiter to bring us a selection of food so we can sample the best Chow Tory had to offer. We feasted on blue cheese wontons, sweet pumpkin fritters, salmon rice paper rolls and satay. All very delicious. Will return when I am back in Wellington.

Yelp
Amazing Asian fusion restaurant with a very diverse menu. The chicken satay skewers were absolutely amazing, as were the pork and shiitake mushroom dumplings. Most items are small, so order a few. The cocktail menu was quite extensive (including non alcoholic cocktails) and the atmosphere was relaxed. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
I would be very tempted to say this is my favourite restaurant in Wellington! The most amazing Asian fusion cuisine I have ever tasted. The menu is so extensive with so much variety, and the sharing style menu means you're trying something new every time. Not the mention the incredible cocktails - Piña Chow Lada!!! - which are 2-for-1 on certain days of the week! The salt and pepper squid and blue cheese wontons and life altering

Yelp
I have been to Chow twice, and both times I've been super impressed with the quality of food for the price that you pay for it. They have a mixed culture Asian menu - curries, fish cakes, teriyaki, etc. The best thing on that menu has to be the jungle curry though. It's yellow curry with just the right amount of heat, which goes down a treat with coconut rice. Cocktails are pretty standard price wise too, but they are a twist on the usual so you can try something a little different. Students about the place will love Chow for its 2 for 1 cocktails on Wednesdays and Saturdays, as well as 2 for 1 meals on another night of the week. How can you go wrong with that? LOVE it.

Yelp
Fresh and seriously tasty food. We had dumplings to share, which were crisp and great flavour combinations, then I had a curry, with a side of jasmine rice. The sauce was creamy and tasted great, coupled with really tasty and vegetables. A definite must if you're visiting Wellington
google avatar

Chelsea S.

Yelp
I love chow. Hard to go wrong here. Such yummy comfort food with an Asian twist! I regularly have the jungle curry. I can't tolerate spicy as much as I'd like to, so I ask for coconut cream on the side. One of my favourite curries in Wellington. Their lunch specials are great and worth it. Cocktails aren't bad too.

Yelp
It's another Chow, this one probably has the best ambience due to the nice space it lives in. Chow = Pretty good + Consistent. Not in the same class as Kazu or that place on Cambridge but you know exactly what you're gonna get and it's gonna be as good as it was last time.

Yelp
Such a cool ambiance and the food was so good. The bok Choy and fried vegetable egg rolls were amazing and the lamb curry. They have a lot of good healthy vegetarian and vegan/dairy/gluten free options which are nice to see. Good cocktails but they aren't that strong

Yelp
The food was good but the portions were very small. Food took a long time to arrive and they also ran out of a lot of dishes.

Yelp
I took a quick break from the Te Papa museum one day to get my spicy food fix in at Chow. They offer a cool $25 lunch deal where you get to choose 2 dishes of the Thai/Chinese/Japanese variety along with a side of rice and a drink. I wasn't that hungry and because it was pouring cats and dogs outside, I opted for the Jungle Curry with tofu, roasted veggies, kaffir lime and coconut cream. The big bowl of curry was a beautiful ocean of yellow and I couldn't wait to dive in. This dish was very spicy, my mouth was on fire and I liked it! The coconut/lime combo was swimmingly delicious, been so long since I had Thai curry this good! I think the only downside to this dish, I was hoping for a bit more of the fried tofu. The very next day I decided to come back again for lunch! This time I had the Massaman curry with braised lamb shank and roasted peanuts. This hearty dish was loaded with melt in your mouth chunks of lamb and kumara (a sweet potato/pumpkin hybrid- which is sadly not avail in the US). I loved the textural crunch I got every now and then from the sprinkled peanuts on top. Although this did not pack as much heat as the Jungle Curry, I loved the luxurious flavors of the lamb, coriander and tamirind spices. Again another winner :-). If only I had more time in Wellington to try the rest of their menu!

Yelp
Went to Chow with my partner and a couple friends on New Years Eve, we were served quickly and the food arrived all together in a timely manner. As a vegan i found the menu catered to all as it gave multiple choices that were clearly labelled as gf, df, vegetarian, vegan ect. The jungle curry was yummy, spicy and creamy for a vegan option and the seven spiced tofu was unforgettable, A MUST to order if you like tofu. My partner and I had the ginger nashi cocktail which was sweet and spicy and the two for one cocktail deal was perfect for New Years Eve. The food was a little pricy but it was well worth it. I'm dying to go back! :)

Yelp
We were very lucky to visit on "2 for 1" night. So our experience was both delicious and a real bargain. I have had great calamari only a few times in my life. The salt and pepper squid was terrific. I recommend sitting on the balcony if the weather is fine.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place. Great service and the food was sublime so good. The fried chicken wings where so good as was the satay. What else can I say a must try in Wellington might be worth booking or getting there early it's well worth it.

Yelp
Great food and friendly staff - try the blue cheese wontons! And Chow has 2-4-1 cocktails Wednesday & Saturday.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent lunch deal and plenty of options for vegetarians. The pumpkin curry was my favorite. Customer service was very friendly and the view from the deck was quite good on a pleasant day. Monday nights get very busy since they have the 2 for 1 deal on food.

Yelp
This place is a Wellington classic. Delicious and very tasty Asian food that is served with excellent service time and time again. I have never had a bad experience here. It can sometimes be a bit of a wait for a table but you are now able to book which can help solve that issue. Monday nights are two for one which is amazing value for money but of course much busier! Would highly recommend this place. My favourite dishes would be the yellow chicken curry and the beggars purse. Yum!!

Bruce B.

Yelp
The restaurant DID NOT live up to reviews. The food was at best bland and the service was rushed and poor. Bruce B

Yelp
So far the best Asian fusion resto I've been to in Wellington. Good food, good service, good place, good crowd. We will surely come back whenever we crave for Asian fusion.

Amanda W.

Yelp
Unbelievably bad food, disinterested staff, average cocktails... We want the $200 we spent there back. We will never return and I will gladly discourage everyone I know from going there.

Yelp
There is something really appealing about this place but, underneath a funky surface, it is pretty crap. Last night they got my takeaway order wrong - when I called they responded really professionally. They offered me a $50 voucher to eat in. So here I am. Waiting. And waiting. I had to sit at the bar to eat which is ok. It took 15 minutes to even get noticed and order a drink - and only then because I got pushy. Then I waited for over an hour for a pretty simple dish to arrive. Then it took another 30 minutes for other stuff to arrive. When it finally arrived, it was average - and one was so oily it was inedible. Instead of sitting here waiting for food covered by my voucher, I wish I was somewhere along the street paying for good food that arrived in a reasonable time. Great feel to the place, great looking menu - but no substance beneath the surface

Alan F.

Yelp
A great experience. Again, and again, and again. I have been here several times over the years and this place continues to be friendly, flavourful and great value.
